“Why are you looking at me like that?” he asked, his smile coloring his voice.

She smiled back. “I was thinking about Princess Sarai,” she said. “And I just realized something.”

  “What’s that?”

She leaned up suddenly to plant a kiss on his cheek. “You have a little Kyona in you.”

He grinned, wrapping his arms around her and trapping her in place. “It’s my most attractive feature, some would argue.”

She shook her head, smiling mischievously up at him. “No, it’s not that.”

“What is it, then?” he challenged.

“How much you love change, of course,” she said innocently.

His arms tightened around her as he smiled down into her eyes. “I do,” he said, his eyes twinkling but his words sincere. “I love her very much.”

  Acknowledgments

By the time I finished the first three installments of the Kyona Chronicles, there was no way I was closing the cover on this world without finding out what becomes of the next generation. Cal and Elnora’s children grew up in court, not in obscurity, and I wanted to see how they faced the different set of challenges that would bring.

I couldn’t have followed the story forward without the support of my incredible team. My fondest thanks to my husband Ray, the first to discover the stories with me, and my biggest encourager to keep going.

A massive thank you to my beta readers: Mum, Dad, Andrew, Adrian, Tamara, and Cherilyn. Thanks for investing so much time in my series! Again, extra thanks to Dad for developmental and copy editing, to Mum for line editing, and to Dad and Mel for assistance with publication and release.

Karri, the cover is perfect, as always. Rebecca, your map continues to make the world come alive.

To you, the reader, thank you for giving me the privilege of being an author.

And most importantly, to God, who gave us words, and teaches us that they have the power of life and death. Help me never to take that lightly.

  About the Author

I’ve been a reader since I can remember, growing up on a wide range of books, from classic literature to light-hearted romps. The love of reading has traveled with me unchanged across multiple continents, and carried me from my own childhood all the way to having children of my own.

But if reading is like looking through a window into a magical and beautiful world, beginning to write my own stories was like discovering that I could open that window and climb right out into fantasyland.

I cannot believe how privileged I am to actually be living that childhood dream and publishing my own novels. I do so from my hometown of Adelaide, Australia, where I live with my husband and our two, soon to be three, little munchkins.

I’ve never outgrown my love of young adult stories, and my first series, the Kyona Chronicles, is a young adult fantasy series of six installments.
