A couple of hours later, Carter stopped the Land Rover outside his house and cut the engine. He looked over at Mia. She was still asleep, her chest rising and falling slowly as she breathed deeply.
Her pretty face looked angelic while she slept, and it was almost impossible to believe she was the same woman that had ridden him in the bathtub or made love against a tree in the woods.
She definitely had two sides to her nature, and he loved them both.
He got out of the vehicle and went around to the passenger side, opening the door quietly so as not to wake his sleeping mate.
Unbuckling her seatbelt, he leaned in and slid his arms beneath her thighs and around her back, lifting her easily out of the Land Rover. He loved feeling her weight in his arms.
As he approached the house, the front door opened. Cole stepped out into the night and waited for Carter to reach him before saying softly, “How was the journey?”
“Fine,” Carter replied. “But it’s been too long a day for Mia.”
Cole nodded, smiling. “She did a good job today. With every monster hunter in America focused on Broken Rock, nobody is going to give Belladonna Falls a second thought.”
“Yeah,” Carter said. “And when those hunters don’t find anything at Broken Rock, hopefully all the interest in monsters will die down eventually.”
“It will,” Cole said. “Have you thought about when you’re going to claim Mia?”
“As soon as she’s ready and not too tired,” Carter said. He was looking forward to the mating ritual but he didn’t want to do anything until Mia was one hundred per cent sure about the commitment she was making.
“I’ll get her upstairs,” he said.
“Sure thing. She’s a good woman, Carter, and she’ll make a perfect mate.”
Carter took Mia inside and up the stairs to his bedroom. He laid her gently on the bed and went into the bathroom to splash some cold water on his face. The long drive had made him tired and he was going to sleep well tonight.
When he returned to the bedroom, Mia was sitting up on the bed naked. Despite his tiredness, the sight of her naked curvy body sent a shiver of desire through Carter.
“Hey,” he said, beginning to undress.
She smiled sleepily. “Did you carry me up here?”
“I did. I didn’t want to disturb your sleep.”
“Thank you.”
Naked, he pulled back the covers and said, “Let’s get into bed, sleepyhead.”
She climbed in with him and snuggled against him, her body warm and soft.
“We were talking about you claiming me before I fell asleep,” she said.
“Yes, we were but there’s plenty of time for that tomorrow.”
“Okay,” she said, her breathing getting deeper as she fell back to sleep.
Carter kissed her forehead and closed his eyes.
There was nowhere else in the world he would rather be than in bed next to this beautiful woman.

Two Weeks Later
Mia felt excited as she followed Carter along the trail that ascended the mountain near Belladonna Falls. The stars were bright in the sky, the new moon mostly black except for a tiny silver arc of light.
She was going to be claimed beneath that new moon, and she couldn’t wait to become Carter’s bonded mate.
The two weeks since the Hart show had been hectic, with Mia and Jake giving more TV interviews, being guests on radio shows, and writing articles for major newspapers and websites.
She had wanted Carter to claim her the moment she had returned form New York but he had said they would wait until the chaos had died down and they could concentrate on the ritual properly. The night of the new moon had been a perfect choice. And Carter said he knew of a clearing on the mountain that would be an ideal mating spot.
And now it was finally here. It was almost midnight as they reached the top of the trail where a small clearing lay in darkness among the pine trees. Night-blooming evening primrose were scattered around the clearing in pink and white clusters, lending their delicate scent to the warm night breeze.
“This is the place I was telling you about,” Carter said. “I think it’s perfect.”
“It is,” Mia replied, taking in the beauty of the mountain, the clearing and the night sky. In the distance, she could see the lights of Belladonna Falls, her new home. “Just perfect.”
He led her to the grassy clearing and kissed her passionately, his hands roaming eagerly over her backside and hips. She felt the same eagerness, and as she returned his kiss, she tugged at his clothing. She wanted him inside her and the anticipation was driving her crazy.
They undressed each other quickly, hands and mouths exploring each other’s bodies until neither of them could stand it any longer. Mia lay back on the soft grass and Carter was above her, driving himself into her. She gasped as he entered her and slid deep inside.

Snuggling against him, she said, “I’m the happiest I’ve ever been. This is already feeling like home, like it’s where I should be.”
“I wouldn’t want you to be anywhere else,” he said, kissing her.
Her phone began to buzz in her pocket. Mia pulled it out and turned it off.
The rest of the world could wait.
Right now, she had better things to do than give more interviews.
She wanted to spend time with her mate.
