“I remember this,” I said. Dall smiled at me, but he didn’t get it. “No, Dallas, I remember this. Everything. I remember us being here before, years ago. I remembered this all before, but seeing it . . .”
Dallas came back to the doorway and wrapped me up in his big, strong arms and held me tight. “Oh, baby.”
“It’s so weird. I remember you coming up from the beach, right there,” I said, pointing toward the ocean. “You were wet and freezing cold, laughing. I remember riding our bikes from here. I remember us cooking noodles, and I remember cuddling up on the couch because we got back late and it was cold. I remember that couch . . . Dallas, I remember it.”
Dallas pulled back a little so he could see my eyes. “I remember too.”
The complete love and devotion he had for me was in his eyes, written on his face. “I meant what I said in our vows,” I murmured. God, was that just today? “For a long time, there’s been parts of me that felt incomplete. Maybe even before the accident. Then I woke up in hospital and the most amazing man was sitting there, already in love with me. Like I was the luckiest guy in the world. And it took a little while as I tried to put the puzzle of myself back together. But Dallas, it was the pieces of us that made me whole. Not me by myself, and not just you, but us.”
He kissed me softly. “The pieces of us make me whole too.”
Then he bent down and scooped me up, bridal style. “What are you doing?”
He grinned. “Carrying you across the threshold. It’s not our house, but it is our wedding day.”
I laughed as he stepped inside and put me gently on my feet next to the couch. “I love you, Dallas.”
He beamed. “And I love you. Always have.”
I sighed, content and safe in his love. “Always will.”
