Sex, Vows & Babies: Surviving Harley (Kindle Worlds Novella)

“Are you angry?”
I could almost laugh at such a ridiculous thought. “I’m fucking ecstatic,” I assure her before pulling her into my lap on the floor.
Her shoulders hunch in relief and her sobs die down. I hold my wife while stroking her sticky hair. She’s beautiful and perfect and mine. And she’ll soon be the mother of my child. Just the thought of her walking around our home with her stomach swollen with a baby makes me want to climb on the roof and shout it for the world to hear.
“I’m scared,” she whimpers. “What if they don’t get order established? What if we don’t get medical care for me and the baby?”
I kiss her head and hug her tight. “I promised you I’ll take care of you. That’s one promise that I’ll never falter on. And I’ll protect our baby too. We’ll make it through this, pixie. Just like we make it through every other hurdle life throws at us. We’re the Harrisons and this is our world to conquer.”
She lets out a small laugh that washes over me like a warm rain. “How do you do it? Calm me down with just a few words. You make me feel like everything is going to turn out okay.”
I stroke her hair and shrug. “As long as we’re together, it’ll be better than okay. We finally found each other in this big bad world and I’ll be damned if I ever let a thing pull us apart.”
“My hero,” she says playfully.
I slide a palm to her still flat stomach and run my thumb across her flesh. “My family.”

Six months later…
This marriage won’t last. I suppress a giggle at the words I’d spoken to millions of people while in the diary room of my house less than a year ago. That was before I let my mountain man of a husband into my heart. That was before he peeled away my protective layers and found the real Taylor hiding inside.
And now…
I know our marriage will stand the test of time. Each day, my heart ties itself more intricately to his. With every word, touch, silent look of love, we’ve fallen deeper and deeper into what will be a blissful future.
“You’re glowing.”
I jolt at the voice and turn my attention to my blonde sister-in-law. Caroline is pretty in a soft, simple way. Her eyes are kind and her voice is sweet. I was nervous about meeting her, but we quickly became friends as if it were the most natural thing to do. It makes me realize how shallow my friendships back home were.
“It’s the sun,” I tease as I flit about the kitchen.
She laughs. “It’s you. You’re pregnant and beautiful. Harley was lucky to find you.”
Warmth surges through me at the mention of his name. He and Bentley are out hunting today and I already miss him desperately. “I was lucky he pulled me out of my head and into his heart.”
Caroline beams at me as she continues to chop at an onion her and Bentley brought back, along with a whole bunch of other supplies. The US is still without power because the AAA really did a number on the power plants, but at least there is order. The troops make sure people are fed, sheltered, and protected. “You sure you’re going to want to leave your home?”
There’s a hint of nostalgia in her voice. Harley once told me their story. The Road Back to Us. How they were on the brink of divorce and found love again in an old hunter’s cabin in the middle of the Canadian wilderness. I’d been enthralled in their tale. One of love and survival. It reminded me of our own love story.
“Home is wherever Harley is,” I tell her in a confident tone. “He tells me I’ll love his mom’s old house just as much as this one. Plus, we’ll be able to get medical care when the baby comes.”
She sniffles and I wonder if it’s from the onions or something else. “Not to mention, you’ll be close to us. I’ve never had a sister before. The girls will be thrilled to meet you.” Her eyes drop to my gigantic belly. “And to have a cousin.”
I pat my stomach and our baby nudges me back. I’ve never felt such an overwhelming sense of happiness. It never leaves. Each day is better than the last and I look forward to our future. The United States is working to build our country back up, but I don’t care about making a life here or going back to television one day. All I care about is Harley, our baby, and wherever our next home will be.
We continue to chat, but I’m distracted. I miss my husband. Tonight we’ll spend one last night in this temporary home before making the journey back with Caroline and Bentley. Their kids are with her parents and they’ve promised only to be gone a few days before bringing us home. Suddenly, I’m upset that we don’t have more time.
When the guys return, I’m unnecessarily clingy to Harley. I find that my stupid emotions are barely contained. It isn’t until I’m naked and in our bed later that night that I finally let the tears roll out. He comes sauntering out of the bathroom in nothing but a towel hanging low on his tapered hips with an easy grin, but it falters the moment he sees me crying. His towel gets discarded as he climbs into bed beside me.
“Baby,” he murmurs, his lips pressing soft kisses all over my face. His beard is thick and wiry as ever and it tickles me. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
I attempt to smile through my tears, but it doesn’t work. “I love this house. We have memories here.”
Understanding washes over him and he kisses my nose. “We’ll make memories wherever we go, pixie. That’s just how things are with us. What’s most important is being around family and making sure you and our son are healthy.”
A giggle escapes me at his fierce proclamation of the sex of our baby. “Son, huh?”
He winks before urging my thighs apart. Now that my stomach is so big between us, sex is a little more complicated. But we make it work. We always make it work. His thick cock slides inside my engorged channel and I cry out in pleasure. I’m left to play with my swollen tits while he teases my clit with his fingers and fucks his love into me. Like always, I lose my mind when he’s inside me and by the time we’re both coming down hard with pleasure, I forgot why it was I was upset in the first place.
My sexy beast of a husband pulls out of me and falls onto the bed next to me. In a reverent way, he rubs his palm along my stomach.
“I love you both, so fucking much.”
Tears well in my eyes and I cradle his handsome bearded face with my hands. “We love you so much, too.”
Delivery day…
“Cut the cord, Daddy,” the nurse tells me with a twinkle in her eyes.
I’m nauseous and lightheaded, but I don’t dare waver. Taylor, my beautiful brave wife, just delivered this squirming human. The least I can do is keep from fainting like a pussy.
With a groan, I gnaw through the umbilical cord with the scissors and then watch in awe as they place our baby on her chest.
“I can’t believe we made him,” Taylor whispers through her tears as her fingers stroke our son’s wet-from-blood head. “It’s a miracle. We made him. How?”
I kiss him and know without a shadow of a doubt I’d take a million bullets to the chest before I ever let a thing happen to him or his mother. “It was easy,” I tell her in a tone that’s meant to be smug, but comes out shaky instead. “We made him from love.”
Her eyes flicker with emotion and she nods. I kiss my strong, resilient wife on her sweaty forehead. “Harley?”
I swallow my emotion and regard this woman whom I can’t ever seem to take my eyes from. “Yeah, pixie?”
“I want to make more.”
I beam and the nurse chuckles from behind me. “Sure thing, baby,” I tell Taylor. “Let’s get this one home first and then we’ll get right on that.”
I wink at her and she rewards me with a breathtaking smile.
“We survived,” she says in amazement.
My heart swells. “Love always does.”
