  “What is it?” Abigail’s face turned suddenly serious as she concentrated and gave Lucas her undivided attention.

  “Abigail Jones?”

  “Yeah?” Her eyes were wide and expectant. He loved the thrill of being able to keep her guessing. Life with her was just one wild adventure after another.

  “I love you.”

  Abigail’s expression brightened. Her features radiated immense joy. She reached across the table and took his hand. Everything about her touch felt simple and mesmerizing at the same time.   “Lucas Smith?” She gazed with pure admiration into his face.

  “Do you want to go back to my place?” He asked.

  “Leave Christy to me,” he said in a soothing tone. “I love you, and all I care about is your happiness. I’m going to make sure she doesn’t bother us ever again.”

  Abigail seemed to be reassured and convinced. She sighed and sagged back on the couch in a relaxed state of mind. Her eyes glazed over with sensual peace. “Then come over here and cuddle me.”

  The sound of her voice was so enticing. “Only if you’re naked the whole night.” Lucas grinned.

  Abigail chuckled and pulled him closer by the shirt. “That goes for you, too, mister.”

  Lucas took her to bed and cradled her in his arms. Her breathing went soft and rhythmic against his chest. In this moment, his heart—no, his life, was fuller than he ever imagined it could be. He had everything he wanted. Everything he never knew that he needed. He stroked her hair and kissed her forehead, feeling on top of the world.

  He’d come a long way. He wasn’t a lost, confused nobody anymore.

  And as long as he had Abigail by his side, he never would be again.
