"He's the rat? Do you believe that?" D turned back to me. "Is it possible that he found out something about Vivian and wanted to have her killed?"

"What? No." I pulled out of Edward's hold and walked back to the office as D followed me. "She was the only person in the world that loved him. Fuck no he didn't do anything to hurt her."

I jerked opened the door to find the room empty. "Un-fucking-believable."

"What?" D moved past me and walked into the office. "Where is he?"

I pressed my hand to my nose to try and block the stench of vomit. "He's gone. He ran."

"And left you and Marco here to die?" D turned back and pinned me with a hard stare. "That's unacceptable, Izzy. We have to find him."

"I agree." I turned and walked back out into the warehouse to find Marco and Edward talking over a stack of papers.

"Izzy and I are going to take her car to look for Freddy. You guys good taking Daniel's to get back to the mansion or wherever you need to go?" D put his hand on the middle of my back and addressed the guys.

"Yeah, we're good." Marco glanced over at me. "You okay?"

"I will be, maybe. I can't fathom Freddy hurting Mom — " I pressed my fingers to my lips and turned, walking quickly toward the door and picking my walk up into a jog. There was no way I would ever get over losing my mother, but to think that my little brother was involved with it was way too much to swallow.

"Izzy. Come here." D jogged up behind me and gripped my arm tightly before pulling me back to rest against him. He wrapped his strong arms around me and pressed his lips to the side of my head. "Let's go look for him and not jump to any conclusions yet. Thomas Kallup is a fucking liar, and we both know it."

"Or maybe we're just blinded by love." I glanced up at him as numbness settled into the center of my chest. "Maybe he did do all those horrible things, and we're just trying to take up for him because we care about him, just like we do for each other. Just like what you asked me to do for you and Drake."

"No. We need to uncover the truth before we jump to conclusions. Let's go look for him, and then I'll take you home." He kissed the side of my face again before leaning down farther and brushing his lips by my ear. "Maybe I'll stay the night."

  Maybe?

"No. You go look for Freddy with the guys. I'm going home alone. I don't really care where he is right now. I need to figure out what I believe because the truth of this situation makes all the difference in the world where I go from here." I pushed on his chest softly. "Find him for me."

I turned without another word and got into my Porsche, started it and drove home in silence with the windows down.

One of the older members of our night shift opened my door and offered me a hand. "Evening, Miss Castaletta. You doing alright?"

"Yes, Charles. Thank you." I took his hand and got out of the car before walking around the side of the house and slipping off my shoes. The grass was wet from the evening sprinklers, and the sound of the pool filter running combined with the waterfall feature my father had installed for me lulled me into a false sense of peace.

I dropped down on the side of the pool and slipped my legs into the water, not caring that my jeans were getting soaked. My brother was missing again, and the Kallups were after him. Not only them, but whatever guy was holding a big stick behind them.

And some part of me believed that he deserved it.

Was he involved in Mama’s death? And if so, what the fuck did he uncover that she knew to push him that far?

Fear rushed through me at the last thought that entered my mind.

If he was involved in any way, then my threat would come to pass, but it wouldn't be my father calling me to take his life — it would be my mother from her grave, begging for vengeance.
