I pulled out to the tip, then pushed back in. Repeating the pattern, I alternated between watching her face and seeing myself disappear inside her. “I’m going to fuck you so hard, baby.”

When she wrapped her legs around me, I moved her body halfway across the mattress, then climbed into the bed and pounded into her.

“Yes.” She panted and grabbed my ass.

Covering her body with mine, I slid my hands under her ass to deepen the penetration. I thrust into her, and she begged me to take her deeper.

  So I did.

Again and again and again, I pounded into her, reveling in my oncoming orgasm and recognizing the signs of hers building as well.

Her nails dug crescents into my skin. Her lips parted. Her eyes fluttered closed. When her body finally spasmed around me and she moaned my name, I threw back my head.

Losing and finding myself with her, I roared her name in return.

  CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN

  * * *

  Jewel

Rush sent me ahead to the shower, telling me he’d scoop up our discarded clothes.

As I was rinsing off the soap suds, I noticed him standing naked in the bathroom doorway, his arms crossed over his chest. He was as focused watching me as he had been rinsing the shampoo from my hair. Tender and sexy, he was a tantalizing combination of both.

“Come join me.” I touched myself, then brushed my fingertips across my lip, pleased to see his already hard cock bounce in response to my tease.

He pushed away from the doorjamb, strode straight to me, and yanked open the glass door. Stepping inside, he dove one hand into my hair, and with the other, grabbed me by the hip to draw my body into alignment with his.

He lowered his head and kissed me. Hard. After letting me catch a breath, he kissed me again, long and slow, grinding his cock against my stomach.

“Rush.” Spellbound, I gazed up at him. My hair was wet again, drops of water dampened my lashes, but between my legs, I was wetter still.

“Turn around.” He spun me and placed his palm on my lower back. “Bend.”

When I complied, he reached around me and found my clit, then swiped his thumb over it. Heat shimmered beneath his touch.

As I felt the blunt end of him probing my entrance, I stiffened. “Condom.”

  “I left packets in here, hoping . . .”

His voice was raspy, the acoustics in the shower magnifying it like a concert hall. My pulse certainly throbbed in concert to the desire he orchestrated.

After quickly sheathing himself, Rush glided inside, perfectly filling me. Gripping my hips firmly, he moved me along his length, in and out as he stroked deep. He started out slowly, sliding in to fill me, pulling out to tease. Building the heat, making me burn, making me ache for release.

Touch by touch, he mastered me. Weighing my breasts in his hands. Tugging my nipples. Kissing me, alternating between my mouth that he ravaged with his firm lips and his wet tongue, and sucking on the sensitive patch of skin between my neck and my shoulder.

Stroke by hot stroke, he took me higher and higher, hotter and hotter.

“Rush, oh, Rush.” I sobbed his name.

“Jewel . . .” My name rumbled from his lips, resonating in the stall and deep inside me. “You feel so good.”

  “Yes! Oh, yes!”

My scalp tingled. My legs trembled. Anchored to him, pleasure centered where we were joined, I cried out as heat swept through me. He groaned and stiffened inside me, sending me over the edge in a complete freefall. Knowing as I surrendered, that he had me.

  Already.

  I was completely his.

  ***

I woke up in the darkness, tangled in Rush’s strong arms. His sculpted front to my back, his heavy thigh was thrown over me. He had me pinned to him, but he needn’t have bothered. I wasn’t going anywhere. Not yet, at least.

I was in trouble, big trouble. I’d foreseen this from the beginning, but knowing hadn’t stopped the inevitable.

I shifted from within the cage of his embrace. His cock was velvet, hot and hard against my bare hip as I flipped over. It imprinted every inch of me with tingling desire.

“Hey there.” His gray eyes smoldered through his lowered lids. “Having trouble sleeping?” he asked in a deep rumble.

“A little.” My gaze dipped to his half-parted lips. I licked mine to wet them.

  “Jewel . . .”

I looked up to find his eyes narrowed, and his mouth on its way to mine. I lifted my head, shortening the distance. “Yes.”

I pressed my lips to his. Warmth bloomed between us that I felt deep inside my abdomen. All it took was his mouth touching mine to make me hot, to make me wet, to make me ache for him. Actually, all it really took was him saying my name like that. Infusing it with so much desire.

I shifted, coming up on top of him, straddling him. His cock hard and hot against me, I kissed him. I licked my way into the seam between his lips and stroked my tongue to his. Shallow licks at first, then longer, deeper, more penetrating ones. The way I wanted to him to fuck me.

“Babe . . .” He let out a groan when I broke the kiss. “You’re killing me.”

  “Not yet.”

I stretched out my arm and slapped my hand on the nightstand. After grabbing a condom packet, I tore it open with my teeth and rolled it on him.

“Incredible,” I murmured, a tremor in my voice as I fisted him.

  “Jewel. Fuck!”

I didn’t let him catch his breath. Removing my hand, I impaled myself on him. Then I had to pause. To savor. I pulled in a quick breath as his smoky gaze met mine.

“I . . .” I licked my lips, unable to formulate words for how good it felt to be connected to him. Pressing my palms to his chest, I lifted onto my knees and then lowered myself, sinking inch by inch onto his cock until he was as deep as he could go. “I love the way you feel inside me.”

“I love being inside you.” Reaching for me, he framed my breasts in his hands as I lifted and lowered myself again.

Shallow, then deep, I rode him while he played with my breasts. Until each swipe of his thumbs on the hardened tips made my breath catch.

“Baby.” He lifted his hips, meeting my next downward plunge, and sent heat spiraling outward from my core. “You’re so slick, so wet, so hot.”

He suddenly sat up, startling me. Keeping us connected, he flipped me over. Now I was on my back, and he was on top.

“No!” I protested, a little twinge of disappointment inside my chest. “I wanted to be in charge.”

His voice tight, he said, “I can’t take any more.” Propped on his arms, his biceps taut, he plunged deep into me.

“Rush . . .” I exhaled, no longer caring that he was on top.

“My turn, darlin’.” He gave me a sexy half smile and pulled out, the movement achingly slow.

As the hard edge of him dragged over my clit, a hot bolt of desire shot through me. But before I could catch a breath, he pushed in deep again.

“Yes.” My eyes fluttered closed, and his heated exhale bathed my lips before his mouth crushed mine.

Using his lips, teeth, and tongue, he kissed me deeply and fucked me slowly. With my arms wrapped around him, my legs crossed at the ankles, I lifted my hips into each stroke. Our passion-slick skin slid together. Heat blazed as bright as a fire each time he glided all the way in.

“Rush . . .” I tightened my limbs around him on his next deep stroke. “I’m going to come.”

  “Me too, Jewel. Oh, baby.”

His groan sent me over the edge.

I shuddered as he stiffened, and even through the condom, I could feel his heat. Warmth washed over me, wave after wave. So hot. So good. So right.

Could he feel it too, feel the difference this time?

I was no longer holding back. I was giving him all of me.

  Rush

The dawn’s bringing a new day ruined my languid morning mood. I stopped stroking my hand down the creamy sof
t skin along her spine.

Was this day two already on the week she’d promised me? Only five more days . . . Could I change her mind so quickly?

“Why did you stop?” Yawning, Jewel rolled over to face me. “I like waking up to you touching me.”

My gaze tripped on her sleepy smile. I forgot about my trepidation as she reached for me.

“Hey, sunrise girl.” I traced her lips with my thumb.

When she looked at me and smiled, I forgot everything. In this moment, I was the center of her world, and she was the brightest star in the universe within my arms.

  ***

“Get them all.” Unable to resist touching her a moment longer, I placed my hands on her shoulders. Warmth and rightness settled deep inside me as Jewel leaned back into me and tilted her head to look up at me.

“I don’t need all of them, Rush. Paint supplies are expensive. That’s too extravagant.”

She was the extravagance, but I didn’t tell her that. It was too soon. I had to prove to her what we could be—what I could be for her—if she would just give me a chance.

“We’ll take one of each.” I turned to the salesman who’d been dogging our heels since we walked in the door. “And every single canvas you have. Sketchpads. Charcoal and colored pencils, watercolors too.”

Jewel had said acrylic was her preferred medium, that it was easy to work with and dried fast. But I wanted her to be prepared for whatever creative mood struck her. And I wanted what she needed easily accessible so she would never have to be far from my side.

Once we’d scheduled the art supplies for delivery to the condo, we climbed into the Porsche. As I slid the key into the ignition, I turned to look at her from the driver’s seat.

“Babe, have you ever had any formal training for your voice?”

Her golden eyes wide, she shook her head, making her silky mane shimmer as it brushed her shoulders. Electricity shot through me as I remembered how her hair had felt brushing over my cock when she’d wrapped her lips around it.

  “Why do you ask?”

“Heard you singing two mornings in a row.”

“Sorry. I just felt like singing.” Her brow scrunched, and her gaze went past my shoulder as her eyes glistened. “I haven’t felt like it in a long time. Like I could connect to that part of my life.” She swallowed and gave me a tight smile. “Probably not the stuff you’re used to hearing.”

She wasn’t fooling me. Jewel was trying to downplay what she’d shared, but her voice was weighted with emotion.

“Not lately. No,” I said. “But I grew up in the Catholic church and went to an affiliated school. I’m not religious, but I’ll always have my faith.” I twisted my ring on my finger before cranking the ignition. “So the hymns aren’t unfamiliar, and you sing them really well.”

“Um, not hardly.” She crinkled her cute nose. “My gran was front and center, soloist in the choir. My mom too, before . . .” She paused, her perfect white teeth catching her plump bottom lip.

“You mentioned you weren’t interested in entertainment.” Filling in the blanks, I said, “I guess music is in that category for you too. Is that because of what happened with your mom?”

  She nodded.

  “That’s a shame.”

Jewel’s eyes lit up. “I like your music. Your voice. When you sing, I see colors in my mind that I want to paint.”

She was deflecting, but this time I’d let her. “Are you saying I inspire you?”

“Yes.” Leaning her head back, she turned and smiled at me.

“Good to know, since the feeling is mutual.” I took her hand and placed it on my thigh, pressing down to let her know I wanted her to keep it there as I pulled out of the parking space.

“Where to next?” she asked, her expression soft as her gaze skimmed my face.

“Mind if I swing by the guitar store before we get groceries?”

“Don’t mind at all. I’d love to see your eyes glaze over like mine did with all the options inside the paint store.”

“It’s an hour’s drive inland,” I said, but she shrugged off my warning.

“I like watching you drive. I mean, I’m sure the scenery will make the time go by fast.” She was teasing me. Her eyes glittered like polished gold. “The view along the road will be interesting too. And seeing you try out a new guitar.”

“Norman’s is a rare-guitar shop. It’s hard to resist getting my hands on an instrument that one of my idols has played. But, Jewel . . .” I brought her hand to my lips and pressed a kiss to her knuckles. “You’re much harder to resist than any of those.”

  CHAPTER TWENTY-EIGHT

  * * *

  Jewel

I pretended I was joking, but I really did enjoy watching Rush while he drove.

Wisps of his brown hair hanging in disarray over his platinum eyes. His handsome profile, his strong jaw firm as he focused on the road. His muscular thigh flexing under my hand as he alternated between braking and accelerating. Me beside him like I belonged there.

“Are you comfortable?” he asked, glancing at me as he slowed to a stop at a red light.

  “I’m good.”

“You sure?” He swept a concerned look over me. “That dress seemed like a good idea at the beach, but it’s sparse on material. You’ve got chill bumps on your legs. I can tone down the A/C.” He reached for the controls.

“Not necessary,” I said to stop him. “You aren’t wearing a whole lot more.”

He had on his jeans, a black Gibson guitar tee, and flip-flops. If we were back on the beach, he’d probably have ditched the shirt, but the guitar tees seemed to be a staple item in his wardrobe like my art-themed ones. That was basically all he’d had inside the drawer he cleared for me.

I gave him a small smile. “It’s a hyperawareness of you that’s making my skin tingle. It’s not the cold air. It’s from having my hand on your thigh.”

“Babe.” His voice rumbled low as his gaze dipped to the gathered bodice of my sundress, making my nipples immediately preen to points.

“That too,” I told him, knowing that the thin cotton and the tight fit revealed what he did to me just from a single glance. “Every time you flex your legs, it reminds me how good it feels when you drive your cock deep inside me.”

“Jewel . . .” His Adam’s apple bobbed as he swallowed. “Not here. Not on the freeway. It’s too dangerous.”

“You’re right.” I took my hand off his thigh, and the dark look he gave me almost made me return it.

His cell suddenly rang, the noise startling inside the quiet cabin. The center dash display read MOM CALLING. He glanced at it, and his entire body tensed. It rang again, and when he didn’t move, his tension became mine.

“Aren’t you gonna get that?” I asked.

“Yes, of course.” He tapped the display to accept the call. “Hey, Mom.”

“Rush.” His mother had a nice voice, but she sounded out of breath.

  “Are you okay?”

  “Yes. Most likely.”

The car lurched as Rush’s foot seemed to slip, and he hit the brakes unnecessarily.

“Hold on. Can you hold on?”

“Yes, son. I’m at home. Sitting in the living room on the house phone.”

“I’m not. I’m driving, but I’m pulling over now.”

Now he sounded out of breath too. Blinker on, he took the next exit ramp.

“Why aren’t you at home?” she asked.

  “I’m out with a friend.”

  “Jack?”

“No.” Rush slowed the Porsche at the stop sign.

  “Ben?”

  “No.”

  “A girl?”

  “Yes.”

“Is she with you right now? Can she hear me?”

“Yeah, Mom.” He raked a hand through his hair while scanning both sides of the road. “I can’t find a place to pull over.”

“There.” I pointed at a car dealership just off the freeway. “Up ahead on the right.”
<
br />   “Thanks, Jewel.”

“Hello, Jewel,” his mom sang through the speakers.

  “Hi, Mrs. McMahon.”

“You sound sweet. I love your accent. Where are you from? Where did Rush meet you, at one of his concerts?”

  “I’m from Tennessee.”

Rush pulled into the dealership and steered into a spot. He put the Porsche in park and cut the engine but left the accessories running.

“Oh,” his mom said. “I don’t remember that being on his tour schedule.”

“It wasn’t,” Rush said. “I met Jewel here in LA.”

“Why didn’t you tell me you met someone when I called?”

“I met her right after you called.”

“You seem very comfortable with her for someone you just met.”

“I am, Mom. That’s because she doesn’t just sound sweet. She is sweet.”

I smiled. Rush was so distracted, he didn’t seem to be measuring his words.

“But you can’t just call and start grilling me and my girl after scaring me half to death. What’s going on?”

“Right. I’m sorry. It’s just good news for you to be with someone. After Brenda, I thought you’d never move on.”

“Mom,” he said, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Focus.”

“Sure. Well, the routine tests they took during my physical were normal. But I keep having dizzy spells.”

“Dizzy spells? What the hell, Mom! You didn’t say anything about that when I asked specifically about your health.”

“Don’t raise your voice to me, Rush Patrick McMahon. I assumed it was just low potassium. I’ve had that before, and I didn’t want to worry you. More importantly, why didn’t you tell me you have a girlfriend?”

“It’s a new development.” He flicked his gaze to me and pressed a finger to his lips.

I got the message. He didn’t want me to contradict him, and I wouldn’t. In a dream world, I would be his girl—gladly. In a heartbeat.

I reached for his hand and removed it from his mouth, then brought it to my lap and squeezed it reassuringly.
