A fresh breeze travels through the slightly opened bedroom window chased by the warm sunlight that blankets his face. A soft breath concentrated on one spot on his neck claimed his attention from a contented night’s rest. Sage’s eyes slowly opened to the sight of a blue robin chirping on a blooming branch just outside of his window. He smirked as he welcomed the first signs of spring. He felt the leg of his companion move gracefully up his leg. He kissed her forehead as Deva dimly opens her eyes and kisses the spot her affectionate pant had been occupying for most of the night. Deva asked, “Do you know what to call this?”
“What?”
Deva rubs her leg across his member and whispers, “The perfect morning…. I love this easy access.” Moaning while lifting the sheets Deva says, “I see my point is duly noted.” Glancing out the window Deva sees the bird looking at them. “We can give the bird a springtime performance.”
“Not so fast Deva, you have a conference to speak at this morning, remember?”
“We have time.”
“Do we really?”
Deva rolled over and looked at the clock then looked under the sheets, bit her bottom lip, then looked back at the clock.
He asks, “You want a quickie, don’t you?”
“Yes, but your body doesn’t give them.”
Sage smiling says, “You want to get yours off, and that has nothing to do with me…So come here.”
“Yeah, but I would feel a certain way.”
“Selfish perhaps?”
“Yes.”
“Then I’ll fake it.” Deva pinches him.
“Oww! What was that for?”
“Because we are supposed to enjoy it together.”
He wrapped his arm around her as he leaned above her and says, “Deva, my enjoyment begins when I’m awakened to the feeling of your soft breasts pressed against me each and every morning and when your eyes meet mine, knowing that God granted me to see you another day.”
He made love to her. After pleasing her, he stood up and grabbed their robes. Deva smiled as she recognized the display of his fully erect package.
“I feel so used.”
“Sage, you are making me feel bad! Stop it!”
“I feel as if I’ve been treated like property.” He says jokingly.
“Oh baby, I’ll make it up to you later.” While walking away smiling Deva says to herself, I know it was cold, and I loved it.

Sage is 6 feet tall with brown eyes, with a dark brown complexion. Though his shoulders are slender, he has an athletic build and a deep voice that captures the attention of everyone within the sound of his voice.
Three years ago, Sage went to the local supermarket to purchase groceries. While he was walking down an aisle he noticed a puddle of water on the floor and safely navigated around it. At the same time, a woman was walking towards him while reading the market’s circular and unlike Sage, did not see the puddle. Before Sage had time to warn her, she stepped into the puddle and both of her feet left the floor. Sage along with other shoppers in the aisle could see the horror in her face as the woman screamed while in midair. Just as the woman was about to hit the floor, Sage caught her. He breathed a sigh of relief, but he then lost his footing and fell flat on his back with her on top of him. With his arms outstretched from the force of their fall, the woman slowly and uncontrollably slid off of his body causing her neck to rest in the crook of his arm. He turns and looks at her and they smiled at one another as customers ran to their aid.
That woman was Deva. Since that day in the market, they have been in love with each other for 3 years. Deva (Day-vah), who was named after her father David, is 5ft 2 inches with sparkling hazel eyes. Deva was of medium build and wore her natural hair in twists. Deva is a realtor who did quite well in selling property and is truly a people person.
He says, “Baby, if you like, we can all meet up later for dinner so you can finally meet Perry the friendly ghost.”
Sage thought, for twenty years since the age of five, Perry and I have been through ups and downs just like everyone else except for these past four years. That is how long it’s been since we’ve last seen one another. I speak to him from time to time by phone and email but my lady thinks he is a figment of my imagination.
“Sage that is a great idea! I’m stopping at my mother’s house right after work, so I won’t leave there until I hear from you.”
Deva glanced at the clock. “UGH! I’m running late.”
Deva kisses Sage. “I love you!”
“Love you too Deva. No Tickets!” Sage thought to himself, Deva has such a hea
vy and expensive foot. If I didn’t know better, I’d swear Deva was on the payroll of our local police department.
Deva thinks that we are soul mates. We rarely argue. If we do, it was actually more like complaints. Like those crucial moments when Deva forgot to buy toilet paper or laundry detergent, or when I ate a little of her favorite ice cream and then forgot and left the ice cream carton sitting on the counter…overnight.
The phone rings. “Hello?”
“Sage?--- Dear is that you?”, came the crackling response.
“Yes Momma S. It’s me ma’am.”
Ms. Strong is Perry’s mother. Sometimes called Momma Strong or Momma S., has been the rock in the lives of Perry and Sage. Her husband passed away when Perry was a child. Sage was Perry’s best friend and played a strong role in Sage’s life during his late teens and early twenties.
“I’m getting dressed as we speak and I should be there within the half hour to forty-five minutes. Is everything okay?”
“Everything is well enough to wait until you get here.” Startled a little by Momma S’ answer Sage said, “I’m stopping by my stores for a brief moment to make sure everything is okay, then I’ll be right there….Alright?”
“Alright dear, I’ll see you soon…. Bye.”
“Bye Momma S.”
That conversation caused such a distraction that Sage was stumbling over everything in sight. He knew that whatever was weighing on her, had to be important because Momma Strong has nerves of steel.
Sage reminisces about the time he and Perry played a prank and asked over twenty girls to be their dates for the high school senior prom, and all of them said yes. They had it all figured out; that is until the night of the prom. They thought they could just ditch them all, call up a few girls from another school and leave town since graduation was just two days after the prom. Well, their scheme almost got them killed when two girls showed up sooner than expected.
Perry says, “I know we agreed on telling them to be here at 6, right?”
“I did tell them 6!” Yells Sage.
“The clock says 5 and it’s the right time, so why they are here and how are we getting out of here without being noticed?”
“Your mom just let them in.” Whispers Sage.
“We have to hide!” Perry says while becoming fidgety.
“No kidding Sherlock.”
“I mean from my mom!”
They dove underneath the bed and did not make a sound. Perry whispers, “Good thing we met at the rental and left our cars there. No one will recognize the car we rented out there to be ours.”
The doorbell rang as more dates showed up. Momma S came to the bedroom and knocked on the door. When they did not respond, Ms. Strong opened the door and began to wonder if they had already left, closed the door and went back down the squeaking stairs.
They slowly slid out from underneath the bed and without touching the blinds, began to peek outside. There were cars everywhere as their dates told their family and friends to come and take pictures. Since the theme colors of the prom were red and white, the girls looked like angry pieces of the American flag forming a hostile mob. Perry started laughing as Sage feverously began praying. After a while, Momma Strong went outside and spoke to the angry girls and the crowd dispersed. To this day, Sage wondered what Momma S said to the angry crowd, and after all of these years, he was afraid to ask.
Oh well, off to the stores, he thought to himself.
ϕ
Sage owns three tailoring shops, and a clothing store which was located within one of the tailoring shops. Customers from all over the tristate area visit Sage’s shops to have their clothes made. Once the customer’s outfit was completed and ready for pick-up, the customer took the final balance to the bank, deposited the money and brought the receipt to the store for verification of payment. The system is excellent.
While parking his car near his store, he recognized Scripts walking down the street. Scripts was a homeless man that was embraced by the entire neighborhood. People chatted with him as if he was just an ordinary family member that was just down on his luck. He’s known for giving quotes from the Bible, Quran and anything else that he felt contained credible information.
Scripts noticed Sage and says, “Brother Sage, Brother Sage! How are you today?”
“Scripts, I’m doing fine. You’re looking sharp today.” Sage straightens Scripts’ tie and asks, “You have a date?”
“I do look good don’t I? Thanks to you I have these fine threads.”
“No, thanks to the customers that did not pick up these clothes after two years. They are the ones to thank. I’m going to have to catch up with you later Scripts, I’m meeting up with Perry today.”
While scratching himself Scripts asks, “When did he get into town?”
“I’m not sure--- I suppose a day or two ago.”
“Brother Sage, I’ve heard some strange things about him.”
“Scripts, how in the hell have you heard things and you’re a local bum and Perry travels?”
“Because the homeless gossip too! And our information is as accurate as tits on a cow. I’m telling you something is wrong with that man. Now you can ignore me if you want, but you better be careful.” As Scripts walks away he says, “I may be a bum on life’s highway, but I see the cars and trucks that come by. If you don’t understand that, well…later brother Sage!” In a low tone Sage says, “Later Scripts.”
Sage entered the store and discussed with his store manager the tasks that needed to take place for the week. He also contacted the other managers at the other stores to give instructions of the same so that he could see Momma Strong sooner. He got into his car and drove toward Momma Strong’s house. He felt nervous because of her voice, and anxious because he has not seen his best friend and brother in years. As he tried to forget his conversation with Scripts, he notices a red Mercedes Benz with gold trim approaching him. The car has a personalized license plate that reads, MSRED 2 U. It was Mya. Red is her nickname. Mya is a single, very attractive, young woman, with a slender build and has no children, and is about 5 years younger than Sage who is 32. Mya is his accountant and does accountant work for other businesses across the country. Mya is also known for her beautiful red hair and the freckles on her cheeks.
ϕ
Perry and Sage met Mya when she was two years old. They were playing football in the grass when Mya’s mother called them over to ask for assistance while taking groceries into her home. They fell in love with Mya instantly because they were reminded of an animated program they loved. Sage, who was seven at the time said, “Perry, don’t Mya look like a mixture of Baby New Year and Heat Miser?”
“Yeah! Mya sure do! That’s cool!” They laugh. Perry walks up to her and says, “You have nice eyes too! You look like an angel. Does she have any brothers Miss…”
“My name is Ms. Biggen and this is Mya and no she does not have any brothers or sisters.”
“Well we will be her big brothers. We will always protect her from the mean boys and girls around here.” Sage liked Ms. Biggen. He had a crush on her and Perry would tease him by telling him Ms. Biggen just pulled up in her car. Sage would run to the living room window as fast as he could only for Perry to say, Psyche! Then he would chase him around the house. They would joke about it all of the time, but it didn’t bother him that much.
Sage and Perry did always look out for Mya. Whenever the ice cream truck came around, they treated her to a cone. And when all of the children in the neighborhood would go to the movies, they took good care of her, if her mother allowed her to tag along. They literally treat her like their baby sister.
As everyone began to enter their teenage years, the boys in the neighborhood knew that Mya was off limits. If someone tried to talk to her, Perry and Sage were not going for it. Mya was a cheerleader, the Class Vice-President, an honor roll student, and played chess.
The nerds loved her because of the chess, and the football players drooled over her as a cheerleade
r. Though the majority of the school loved her, Mya had a few fights in her teenage days. There was a classmate of Mya’s who attempted to cut her hair with scissors in the girl’s bathroom. Mya’s assault on the classmate was bad, however, when the mother of the beaten child entered the school and took one look at Mya, she could not help but succumb to the purity and innocence of Mya’s face. That particular incident carried her reputation of being able to hold her own well through her senior year in high school. That’s when the much older men were crashing their cars from starring at her too long while driving by. One guy actually had his girlfriend in the car with him when he rear-ended another car because he was staring at Mya. When Mya laughed, the woman jumped out of the car and wanted to start a fight with her. Mya ignored her until she called her a high heel-wearing bitch. That was the only word in the English dictionary that would change her self-composed attitude. In her mind, a female dog was the lowest thing on earth for a human being to ever be called. Mya, because she watched Sage and Perry fight a lot over the years, held her hands up in the manner being taught and threw punches and connected just as well. As Mya held her stance the man who had the accident stopped the argument. Once Sage and Perry heard about what had happened, they purchased a car for her and from that moment, the only time Mya walked is while going to and from her car.
ϕ
Sage and Mya make eye contact and stop alongside each other on the road.
“Good morning Red.”
“Hi Sage! And where are you going? Work is in the opposite direction.”
“I’m on my way to see Perry and you know how we get so you probably won’t see me there today, but if there are any problems, call me.”
“Okay.” Mya grabs a piece of tissue to wipe her eyes under her glasses.
“Is everything okay?”
“Everything is fine, it’s just that my allergies are acting up and I forgot to take my medication. Tell Deva that it’s still on for Saturday.”
