The Scarers walk into the door room like the astronauts from “The Right Stuff” movie. The Scarers parade by like they are ready for battle.

Sully has over 99,222 points. Randall has 99,111 points. The clock strikes 9:00 and they all go to work! They work the day away. More doors, more screams. A child almost touches a monster and scares the monster to death. The workers shred that door into little pieces. “Kids just do not scare like they used to,” says one of the doormen.

An announcement comes over the intercom. There is a new Scare Leader! Randall! But then, suddenly, the points change again, and Sulley is back as the leader! The rivalry keeps tension in the story.

Monster George comes out of the door with a child’s sock on his back. The attendant screams code 2319! The CDA run in and grab the sock, then they destroy it. Next, they decontaminate George by shredding all his hair. Monster George stands naked on the assembly floor.

Mr. Waternoose, the boss, is afraid that the Monsters, Inc. company will go under. It is the end of the work day. Sulley and Mike go into the locker room. They go into the main hallway. Mike is about to leave for his date with Celia, when Roz, the timekeeper, reminds him that he did not turn in his paperwork. Sulley goes back to get the paperwork.

One door is still on the factory floor. It is not closed. Sulley enters the room, but no one is there. He finds an empty bed. He walks out and closes the door. A child in pigtails stands on the floor next to him. She plays with Sulley’s tail. Sulley quickly places her back into the room. This is the Inciting Event. Sulley’s world is about to change! Sulley tries to flush the child’s stuff down the toilet, but the water backs up. The child is on his back. Sulley runs away, but the child chases him. Sulley tries to return the child to the room, but Randall is in the warehouse. Randall presses a button and sends the door back into storage.

In the restaurant Mikey is courting Celia. Tells her she should get a haircut. The snakes that are her hair panicand hiss. Sulley comes in carrying a bag. He talks to Mikey. The child walks away with the bag over its head. The other monsters in the restaurant panic when they see that there is a human child wandering freely in the room. They run out of the restaurant as the CDA enter in order to decontaminate the area. There is a child security breach!

The human child is in Sulley’s and Mikey’s apartment. The monsters do not want to touch the child, who takes little Mikey from the shelf. The child laughs and causes an energy surge which leads to a blackout! Mike and Sulley argue about what to do with the child.

The child is in Sulley’s bed. Randall is the child’s monster. Sulley goes into the closet to show that it does not hold a monster. Sulley tries to get the child to go to sleep. Sulley goes out of the room.

Sulley wants to put the child back into her room and send her back home. This becomes his new objective. They walk back to Monsters, Inc. with the human child disguised as a little monster. The factory is filled with CDA agents.

Mike and Sulley take the child into the men’s locker room. The child has to go to the bathroom. The child sits in the stall and sings. Sulley opens the door with the child now behind him. They play hide and seek.

Mikey comes into the bathroom and confronts Sulley with the child. Suddenly, they hear Randall. They hide. Randall comes in and searches the stalls. Randall becomes invisible.

Sulley, Mikey, and the child go into the door room. Mikey gets the wrong door. He argues with Sulley. “Boo” is the human child’s name. Mikey and Sulley bump into Randall.

Celia confronts Mike. Randall sees Mikey behind the human child in the restaurant picture on the front page of the newspaper. Randall now knows that Mike is involved. Randall confronts Mikey, and together they plan to return the child to her room during the lunch break at 12:00 pm. The child, Boo, runs loose and jumps into a garbage can. CDA agents confront Sulley, but they only want his autograph. Boo jumps out of the can seconds before the garbage men dump its contents down the garbage chute. Sulley believes that Boo has been thrown down the chute and chases after her. He runs down the stairs and watches the garbage compressor pack the trash into squares. Sulley faints. Mike is looking for Sulley. He finds Sulley walking down the hallway carrying a square of compressed garbage.

Sulley then finds Boo with the kindergarten class. Boo laughs. There is another power surge! It is now 12:30 noon. They all run toward Boo’s door. Sulley does not trust Randall. He thinks that it is a trap. Mikey decides to prove him wrong and enters the room. Randall jumps him, and places Mikey into a container. Randall wheels the container out of the room and out of the factory. Sulley follows Randall.

Boo opens the hidden door. She and Sulley travel down a tunnel. Randall and Fungus strap Mikey to a chair then activate the Scream Extraction machine. The machine’s funnel approaches Mikey’s mouth. He struggles to avoid it.

Sulley pulls the plug and cuts off the power. Randall searches for the problem. Mikey pulls a switch and places Fungus in the chair. Sulley, Mikey, and Boo run down the hallway.

Waternoose is in the Simulation Room. Sulley runs into the room. He tries to tell Waternoose what Randall has done. Waternoose forces Sulley to demonstrate his scare tactics. Sulley scares Boo, who cries and runs away from him. Mikey tells Waternoose all that has happened. Waternoose is sad, excuses the others from the simulator room, then brings down a new door. Randall comes in. He opens the door…to the artic mountains…then pushes out Sulley and Mike. They are now banished! Another plot twist. They thought that telling Waternoose the truth would solve their problems. But they were wrong. They were betrayed, and now things are worse. This is the end of act two desperation scene. The antagonist controls the love interest and unique object.

The Abominable Snowman welcomes Sulley and Mikey to banishment. He offers them snow cones. Mikey wears mittens on his ears. Sulley learns that there is a local village nearby…with children. “Never go out in a blizzard,” says the Snowman. Sulley builds a sled. He argues with Mike, who does not want to go back to rescue Boo. Sulley pushes the sled into the snow, leaving Mike behind. Sulley slides down the mountain then crashes. When he looks up, he sees the village below. The windows in the cottages light up. Sulley gets up and runs into one of the cottages. Boo is tied to the Scream Extraction machine. Waternoose watches the operation. Sulley runs in and breaks up the machine. Randall becomes invisible and beats up Sulley. Mikey returns carrying a snowball and engages Sulley in conversation while he is getting beat up by the invisible Randall. Mikey throws the snowball at Sulley and hits Randall. Randall becomes visible. Sulley hits Randall, knocking him out.

Sulley drags Boo and Mikey down the hallway. Celia jumps on Mikey. Mikey tries to explain as they are chased by Randall. Mikey explains, but Celia falls to the ground. Celia makes an announcement that Randall is the new leader. All the workers surround Randall to congratulate him. This blocks his efforts to catch Boo. They activate the door machine and see Boo’s door coming toward them, but Randall breaks free and runs after them.

THE CHASE IS ON! The excitement drives the audience into a frenzy! Sulley jumps up onto the conveyor belt with Mikey and Boo and goes after Boo’s door. Randall follows. They all go on a rollercoaster ride. They become trapped in a dead end. Mikey makes Boo laugh. There is another power surge. They jump through a door on a tropical island then through another door into Japan. Randall still chases them. They next go into a Paris apartment with a view of the Eiffel Tower. Randall grabs Boo! Sulley then gives chase. Sulley and Randall fight. Boo hits Randall and knocks him out. Randall is thrown through a door by Sulley and Mikey. Randall lands inside a trailer in a swamp. There he is beaten by a woman who lives in the trailer. Sulley and Mike destroy the door so that Randall can never return to Monsters, Inc.

Waternoose brings back Boo’s door. Mikey uses a dummy Boo to fool Waternoose into confessing. He would kidnap a thousand children to save his company. They get this on videotape. The CDA burst into the room and arrest Waternoose. The #1 CDA agent is Roz. Sulley wants to take Boo home. Roz allows
this, but then the door must be shredded. That’s the way it has to be.

Boo leads Sulley into her room. Sulley puts Boo into bed. “Goodbye, Boo, Kitty has to go.” They hug goodbye. Sulley walks through the door and closes it. Boo gets out of the bed and opens the door. It is just a closet.

Boo’s door is shredded. Mike gives Sulley one piece of the door. “None of this ever happened! And I do not want to see any paperwork on this!” says Roz.

Back in the Simulation Room, Mike, with a microphone in his hand, is sitting on a stool doing a standup comedy routine. Mike swallows his microphone. The child in the bed laughs. Laughter is more powerful than screams. Celia and Mike kiss. Sulley and Mike are on the front cover of a magazine. On the Laughter Board, graphs show an upward trend in energy production.

Sulley carries a scoreboard in his hand. Under the papers he has the picture that Boo drew of them. Taped to the picture is the last piece from the door. Mike has a surprise for Sulley. He shows him Boo’s door that he has pasted together. But he needs the one last piece to make it work. Sulley gives Mike the piece. Sulley slowly opens the door. “Boo?” he says. “Kitty,” says Boo. Taking away a character’s source of joy, then unexpectingly bringing it back to them, gives the audience a happy ending once again.

  THE END

BRUCE ALMIGHTY The opening scene: Bruce must cover the “Buffalo’s Biggest Cookie” news story. Bruce has to wear a hairnet for the TV newscast, while the baker picks his nose in the background. This scene is designed to create empathy for Bruce by exposing him to public humiliation. It also shows Bruce’s major problem and weakness: he blames others for the state of his life, especially God. “GOD, why do you hate me?”

Bruce and Grace watch the TV commercial while sitting on the couch in their apartment. The love of our family, our town…Buffalo. Grace wants Bruce to help her put together the photo album. Bruce wants to watch himself on TV again.

The theme of the movie is also introduced: Altruism versus Selfishness. Selfishness versus Family and Community! What is Bruce’s Dream? He wants to be the Anchorman on the TV news show. Bruce blames his problems on God! This is Bruce’s antagonist, although the real antagonist of the movie is Bruce himself.

The next morning, Grace is going to give blood. She has a rare AB type. Bruce does not want to give blood. This is a setup that will later be used to save his life. Grace also gives Bruce the prayer beads, a theme prop that is passed between characters throughout the movie.

Bruce is caught in traffic. He is going to be late for work. It is “Sweeps Week.” A lot is at stake this week for Bruce. This produces tension and jeopardy for the protagonist. His dream is at stake. Bruce drives his Datsun to work. The meeting starts without him. He sees a beggar holding a sign: R EWE BLIND.

Jack is supervisor at the TV station. Bruce and Evan are rivals for the anchor position. They insult each other. Jack gives Bruce a chance for a live feed from Niagara Falls. Grace is working at school with little children. One child eats paste. Her sister Debbie comes in and picks up the phone. We get the message that Debbie believes Bruce is wasting Grace’s life. Bruce believes he has a chance at winning the anchor spot.

Bruce is at Niagara Falls with a rainbow color umbrella on his head. It is then announced that Evan gets the anchorman job. Bruce freaks out! Live with Wacky Bruce. Bruce’s world changes when he gets fired from Channel 7. This is the INCITING EVENT.

Bruce sees a gang beating up the old man. He yells at the gang, and they beat him up and smash his car. Again, Bruce blames God for his problems. The beggar holds up sign saying LIFE IS JUST!

Grace says “EVERYTHING HAPPENS FOR A REASON.” Bruce complains about his mediocre life. He and Grace have a fight. Bruce leaves. He is very upset. He calls out to God to give him a sign as he passes a truck filled with signs such as STOP, DEAD END, etc. Bruce drops his prayer beads in the car. He bends down to pick them up and crashes into a pole. Bruce throws the beads into the lake as he yells at God: “The only one here NOT doing his job is you!”

The next day, the dog is again on the sofa. Bruce throws his pager out the window because it is getting a message from 776-2323, a number he does not recognize. It hits the ground and a car rolls over it, but it still rings. Bruce dials the number and gets a message to go to an empty warehouse for a meeting.

He see a janitor mopping the floor. The janitor asks Bruce to help, but Bruce just laughs. Says he will have some free time on the 7th at 7pm. He says okay. Bruce gets to the 7th floor and sees a white ladder going up to the ceiling. A bright light is turned on. The janitor walks down the ladder wearing a blue-overall suit. He takes that off to reveal an all white suit and announces that he is God. This scene is a confrontation between the protagonist and the antagonist.

God has a file on Bruce. Magically, the filing cabinet extends across the room. Bruce asks God to tell him how many fingers he is holding up in his hand. God always has the right answer. The final joke is that God says Bruce has 7 fingers. Bruce laughs, but when he looks, he does have 7 fingers. This freaks out BRUCE. God then gives Bruce God’s powers. Bruce enters an extraordinary world.

Bruce is able to start his stalled car. He wishes he was Clint Eastwood then becomes Clint Eastwood. With a GUN! He then runs into a diner. He desires a spoon and one comes out of his mouth. He then parts the red soup. A windstorm blows through the diner. God appears in the diner. Together, they go for a walk.

  God explains the rules:

1- You can’t tell anyone that You are God.

2- You can’t change Free Will.

A boat moves across the screen and shows that they are standing on water. Jim Carrey loves to walk on water (see THE TRUMAN SHOW). God retrieves the prayer beads out of the water then goes on a holiday. It appears that Bruce, the protagonist, has triumphed over the antagonist. He has God’s power. This is the end of act one.

MUSIC: “I got the power” theme. Bruce creates a gust of wind which blows up a girl’s dress. He looks at neat clothes in a store window and magically they appear on him. Bruce beats up the gang that beat him up. Bruce makes a monkey pop out of the butt of the gang member. Bees fly from his mouth and stings the other members of the gang.

BRUCE ALMIGHTY—MY WILL BE DONE! Bruce decides to romance Grace. He pulls the moon closer to the earth. They kiss. In the morning, Bruce begins to hear voices calling out for help. He hears prayers.

Bruce causes his dog, Sam, to pee in the toilet. Grace notices that her breasts are bigger. Bruce wants to get his job back. Bruce transforms his Datsun into a high tech sports car.

Bruce is caught in a traffic jam, but magically separates the cars and opens a path through which he can drive. Bruce uses his powers to make himself famous. Bruce discovers the body of Jimmy Hoffa. He fills the van for Channel 5 with drugs. Police arrest the other news team. At the Mark Twain Cookout, Bruce makes a meteor strike the earth. He gets the news story. Bruce becomes MR. EXCLUSIVE and gets his own Billboard on Main Street.

His dog, Sam, sits on the toilet and reads the newspaper as Grace walks in. This freaks her out.

Grace and Debbie get body massages in preparation for a night at the Blue Palm restaurant. Grace expects to get a proposal from Bruce. Bruce manipulates Evan when he is on TV, forcing him to make weird sounds and look foolish in front of the audience. Bruce is becoming evil. He is using his powers to humiliate others in public.

Tony Bennett is singing at the Blue Palm restaurant. Instead of proposing marriage, Bruce tells her he got the promotion as the TV Anchorman. Tony sings “If I Ruled the World.” SELFISH BRUCE! Bruce hears loud voices in his head. He screams at people around him for talking so loud, then he runs out of the restaurant.

God takes Bruce to Mt. Everest. “How many people have you helped?” asks God. Bruce has to manage the prayers. He starts with file cabinets, then yellow pasties. Then, he creates a computer system. “YAHWEH – The Revelation Super Highway!”

Juan Valdez comes to the window so that Bruce can get some java. Bruce
becomes a speed typist and types “YES!” to all the prayers. PARTY SCENE: Everyone wants to be with Bruce! He turns water into wine and hangs out with the Golden Calf. But Grace will not go to the Party and celebrate with him. “It’s a Wonderful Life” is playing on the TV. It is showing the scene where Jimmy Stewart promises to lasso the moon for Donna Reed. Grace comes to the party and sees Susan kissing Bruce. Grace breaks up with him. Bruce rains on his own party.

Bruce cannot get Grace to take him back. It is a problem of “free will.” He does not have the power to force someone else to love him.

We now see the consequences of Bruce’s actions as an announcer reports the disasters occurring around the world. Bruce has his anchorman debut, but it is interrupted by the announcement that the Sabers have won the Stanley Cup. There is a sudden loss of power in the studio. They cut to a live interview in the sports arena. Bruce causes a cork to pop and knock out the sports announcer, so that the cameras cut back to him. The power goes off again, and again Bruce turns it back on. Bruce is frustrated on his big night!

People are rioting outside the news station. Bruce decides to leave the anchor position and go outside to help. Bruce is on the streets with the rioters, who are stealing goods from the bakery and the diner. The homeless man hangs up the sign: “Thy Kingdumb Come.” A rioter complains about the lottery. Others push over the billboard sign. The photo of Bruce goes up in flames. Bruce screams!

Suddenly Bruce finds himself back in the empty warehouse, looking for help from God. He looks up the ladder, but no one is there. God, dressed as the janitor, returns. He has two mops with him. It is 7:00pm on the 7th. “Not as easy as it looks, this God business,” says God.

“They are all out of control. It is mayhem. I do not know what to do!” says Bruce.
