  Excerpt from Wick

Book 3 in the Gypsy Kings MC series

Gypsy paced the waiting room at the trauma center. The call had come in to Gypsy late in the evening, around eleven p.m. No one knew the whole story, just the details of the accident. An elderly woman had run a stop sign, taking out Wick. The only saving grace had been that her car had hit the rear tire. All Gypsy had heard from the nurses was that Wick was in surgery and it would be a couple of hours before they knew anything, but his vitals were strong when he came in and that was a good thing. Damn it Wick, what had you out tonight?

First Tabor, now Wick. Couldn’t his crew stay uninjured for just a little while? Glancing at the wall clock, Gypsy realized he needed to check on Quinn… He shook his head at the nickname. He pulled out his phone and listened as the phone went to voicemail. When his phone rang, he saw her name pop up, answering with his normal response “Babe.”

“Back at you, but this is George.”

  “Where’s Mariquinn?”

“Gabriel is sick, she’s bathing him for the tenth time tonight.”

  “What’s wrong with him?”

“Seems he came home with the flu.”

“Damn it, okay tell her I called and that I’m sorry I’m not there to help her.”

  “Gypsy.”

He needed some sleep. “Sorry, Killer.” Gypsy caught the case of the chuckles as he said George’s new road name. When he couldn’t stop laughing, George retaliated by hanging up. That would cost the prospect dearly. Putting his phone away, Gypsy wiped tears from his eyes as he tried to stop laughing. When he finally managed it, his whole crew was staring at him.

  “What’s wrong, Gypsy?”

One word and the fit of laughter started again. All he had gotten out was, “Killer,” and everyone knew he had let George in on his new road name. It was the kid’s fault, running around with every woman that he could get his hands on and his dick in. That shit would catch up with him if he wasn’t careful. Maybe they should have called him “slut-puppy.”

Gypsy looked for the exit. He needed air.

Two hours later, the Gypsy Kings stood listening to Wick’s doctors. His bike had been struck by the car on the rear tire from the left-hand side. When Wick’s body hit the ground, the impact had shattered his left leg. There had been no choice but to amputate the leg. The doctor went on to explain that they were able to do the amputation below the knee so he would have more movement.

Wick would have to stay in the hospital for approximately two weeks before being moved to a rehab facility. Gypsy wanted him moved closer to where they all lived. The doctors refused to discuss that until they spoke to Wick. Gypsy almost tried the King card, but outside of the Gypsies he was just a guy. Now the doctor looked at them like they weren’t any more than outlaws. The judgment didn’t bother him like it did some of the others.

“How long will he be looking at, once he’s in rehab?”

“Mr. Petrovic, it’s not only his leg that will need rehab, it’s also his emotional rehab as well. Mr. Nardin will be here for a minimum of two weeks, and rehab can be anywhere from four to eight weeks. Before you start making plans, you need to give Mr. Nardin the time for the wounds to heal before you need to worry about his stay in rehab.”
