Oh Shit! I’m going to be late! His legs responded to his sudden panic, but his sense of balance hadn’t purchased a ticket to his cerebellum. He bounced off several walls and smashed his shin into the coffee table. The textbook was on the table. He stuffed pens, pencils, folders and a notebook into his backpack.

Anthony threaded his legs into the crumpled jeans on the floor. His jacket was behind the couch cushion. Slipping into his shoes, he flew out the door and down the steps leading from his apartment. The crystal-clear March sky was so cool and blue that it greeted him with a crisp punch. The blow stung. It also slapped the cloud from his mind.

His nap had gone into extra innings. Burning the candle at both ends with work, school, and studying had taken its toll. Anthony needed the sleep. He unfortunately purchased it on credit and now realized he couldn’t afford the interest. There was much that still needed to be done. Reading those chapters. Going over the study questions. The rough draft to the paper was due in two weeks. He ran his hand over his head and sighed.

During his walk to class he would normally think about the day’s lecture. He tried, but the dream played its trump card and refused to be evicted from his memory. The strange feeling of stepping out of his body. The steps. Those people. The black eyes. What happened to the girl? Where was that place? Maybe it wasn’t a dream?

  About Tim Sabados

Tim Sabados has been an emergency room nurse for over a decade and a part-time paramedic for over two decades. A native born Detroiter having interests in painting, sculpture and drawing it was only natural that he turned to creative writing to fulfill that artistic gap formed by the excessive amount of technical writing required of him during nursing school.

His influences in fiction have come from interests in various mystical concepts and the many unusual situations presented to him during his medical career. More importantly his writing strays from any one single genre, but instead blends them together to create a literary experience that allows a vibrant mental journey and the ability to contemplate the multi-faceted aspects of life. Something he feels the reader will find enjoyable on top of an entertaining story.
