Veruka comes to a stop, and Hadeon and Ariana climb off. Hadeon laughs as he gazes at the hubbub before them.
“Seems the entirety of Fiore has come to meet the new queen.”
Ariana laughs. “Looks that way.”
He takes her hand and they walk down the hill, Veruka pawing steadily beside them. People point and cheer as their presence is made known. Ariana grins and waves, overcome with the joy that comes with seeing the peace and happiness of her people. Relief invades her bones knowing that the threat to Fiore’s future has been removed and now the land is healing, physically and emotionally. The sun burnt sections are already speckled with new life, particularly now that spring is here.
Ariana stops and turns to her husband. She takes his face in her hands, feeling the stubble beneath her fingers. “Thank you for always believing in me,” she whispers.
He grins and presses his lips to hers. “Thank you for loving me.”
Her smile is wide in response.
“Come on,” he says. “Your people await you.”
