  “What?” I looked but all I saw was a bug on her arm.

  “It’s a ladybug,” she gasped. “Don’t you see? It’s a sign.”

  Shrugging, I said, “Uh, okay.”

  She placed a finger beside the ladybug and, almost as if it were trained, it crawled on her finger. “It means we were meant to be together forever.” The ladybug flapped its wings and Connie looked toward heaven. “Thank you, Meredith.”

  I wrapped my arm around Connie’s shoulder and kissed her on the head. “Yeah, thank you, Meredith. I promise to take good care of her.”
