“Damn, that was fast.” Yeshi greeted her again.
East smiled and looked over at the girl. She immediately rolled her eyes. “Sheena? What you doing on this side of the world?”
Sheena’s fake smiled appeared instantly. “East, girl I need to be asking you the same thing.” She looked from East to Killian. “Well, maybe not since Killian is here and you two have clearly become attached to each other.”
“Sheena, don’t shade me in my face.” East looked at Killian. “Entertain your company, I’ll be back.” East didn’t give any of them time to say anything before walking away.
If Killian didn’t follow her within seconds, his ass was getting popped. On her mama, he was getting hit. East didn’t have time for the games, and she would surely knock his ass straight to sleep for trying her.
“Yo, why you walk off like that?”
Saved by the muthafucking bell!
East answered him but kept her stride. “You know I’m not the one for games, and Sheena being here tonight with your friends is a game. How the hell did she know we were here?” East yelled.
Killian looked like he was about to say something back but stopped and grabbed her arm instead. He didn’t stop until they were up the stairs and somewhat alone. There were a few people still circulating here and there, but it was nothing like it had been on the first floor.
“I promise you I didn’t know she was coming, but I do know why she’s here.”
East rested her weight on one leg. She was all ears for this bullshit, and it had better be good.
13.Real Life Love Shit
“Are you going to tell me or just stand there looking crazy?” East questioned with her head leaned to the side.
She was ready for this shit. Good and gotdamn ready to hear some mess that would get him punched in the mouth.
When Killian watched the people kissing behind them longer than necessary, East knew then. He was on some bullshit. She stood quietly, giving him time to come up with whatever lie he wanted to tell, but she grew more and more anxious by the second. Which would most definitely not work out in his favor. If Killian allowed her to simmer for too long, her anger would be irrevocable.
“Aight, so you know I know Yeshi from college, right?”
Nothing reassuring came from East. No head nod, no verbiage, and absolutely no understanding.
“Well, Asheena went to college with us too.”
“Asheena? Since when you started being all proper with this bitch’s name?” Everything minus the new part of his statement went through one ear and out the other.
Killian’s head dropped forward as he exhaled. “East, try to listen, baby.” Killian looked back at her and spoke while using his hands. Every word held a hand gesture to follow.
“Sheena and I knew each other from before, there’s nothing now. I don’t know if Yeshi invited her out, or she just saw him advertising his party and popped her ass up. All I do know is that I had absolutely nothing to do with the shit… you know she’s a sac chaser. I didn’t have anything to do with this shit.”
“That’s what your mouth says, but her being here definitely says something else.” East rolled her eyes and allowed her arms to drop from her chest. “It’s something up with you and that girl, and until you tell me what it is, I’m not doing this.”
East turned to leave, but he grabbed her and stopped her. “Nah, hell fucking nah. You ain’t about to call no shots without knowing what’s really up. We came up here to hang out and fuck around, and that’s what we’re going to do. I’m not about to let you or Asheena fuck that up.”
“Nigga, call her Asheena one more time and see if I don’t slap the taste out of your mouth.”
Killian’s nostrils flared as he took a couple more breaths. Visibly trying to calm himself down.
“You’re really fucking with me right now.”
“Oh, no, I’m not. That’s exactly what I’m not doing.” East looked him up and down before shooting him a quick eye roll and walking away.
This time, he didn’t stop her.
East sashayed back down the stairs and into the party. It was still booming with music and loaded with people, so instead of treading lightly like she’d intended to, she grabbed a drink from the bar and danced into the crowd.
She hadn’t been on the floor for five minutes before Yeshi was behind her. The initial contact from him alarmed her, and she jumped, but once she looked over her shoulder, she smiled.
“What you doing down here by yourself? Where’s my boy?”
“He’s around,” East spoke over her shoulder.
Yeshi was tall as fuck and handsome as hell, so looking into his face was too strenuous for one too many reasons.
“Why you say it like that?” his hand came to her stomach and pulled her back so that she was now dancing on him.
“Boy, what you doing?”
“Chill, girl, it’s just dancing. I ain’t gon’ try no funny shit.”
East wasn’t sure if the smile on his face matched the words that were coming out of his mouth, but she knew better, so she obliged. The moment he tried anything other than dancing, all bets were off.
“Now, tell me what you were saying about my boy.”
East moved her body to the beat while turning her head to the side. “I wasn’t saying anything about him. That was you.”
“Well, I need to make sure you’re right for him, so tell me now.”
East slung her hair over her shoulder and pressed her back into his chest as the song changed to a slow one.
“Nope.”
Yeshi’s grip on her stomach raised up, draping across her chest while he used the other one to sip from his cup of alcohol.
“Why not? You being real rude right now. How you gon’ be rude to the man of the hour?”
“I’m not rude. I just don’t want to talk to you about him.”
Yeshi’s chest vibrated against her back when he laughed. “Why not? What’s wrong with me?”
East spun in his grasp and wrapped her arms around his shoulders. Yeshi’s eyes zoomed in her as did his hands. Although he reeked of liquor, he was fine as ever. Nice, neat, haircut. Thick, juicy lips, and sex appeal that could drown out any man placed against him.
“I don’t know about you yet. I need to feel you out some more.”
Yeshi tightened his grip again. “Feel me for what? I ain’t did shit but be friendly.”
“That’s what you keep saying, but you’re still dancing with me instead of hanging out with your friend. You dance with all Kill’s girlfriends like this?”
“See, let me get off you. You making this li’l dance too serious.” Yeshi pushed away from her with a broad smile on his face. “Come on, let’s go find this man because you’re tripping.”
East laughed along with him but said nothing. His dance may have been innocent, or it could have not been. She didn’t know for sure, but she did know that Killian most definitely wouldn’t have liked it. She’d known that from the start, which was why she’d done it. Him, on the other hand, she wasn’t so sure about. Even with him not having tried anything out of the way, she was sure there would be some sort of ill feelings on Kill’s behalf.
“Ow!” East regained her footing after bumping into Yeshi’s hard chest.
“You want to go grab something to drink really quick?”
East was still rubbing the top of her head when he began pushing her back toward the house. They’d clearly covered a lot of distance while she’d been daydreaming because they were now in a part of the house that wasn’t as crowded and was a little too dark to be considered comfortable for a party.
“Nah, I need to find Killian. I’m ready to go.”
“Damn, for real? I think I’m offended. You ready to go already?” Yeshi grabbed her and shook his head. “Nah, you’re coming with me.”
The drunkenness in his speech and posture was evident. Not only did he continue to touch her, but he was way too aggressive, and it was really starting to i
rk her.
“Boy, no. Move, so I can go find my nigga.” East tried to push past him again with no success.
“Aight, just help me bring the rest of these bottles out of the kitchen, and then I’ll get you to Kill.”
East sucked her teeth. “Fine, come on.”
When Yeshi’s body turned to one side to maneuver them through the crowd, East turned to follow him but spotted her earring on the floor. She’d obviously dropped it when she’d bumped into Yeshi.
“Aye! What you doing?” The alarm in Yeshi’s voice was terribly unnecessary, which was why East’s head snapped up in a hurry.
“Nigga, what is your fucking problem? I’m getting about sick of you and all this gotdamn excessive force you throwing my way.”
Yeshi’s face softened a bit. “My fault, I just thought you was trying to run off.”
“And if I was?”
Forced laughter came from Yeshi as he extended his hand to help her from the floor. “Nothing. I was just about to sa—”
East tuned Yeshi completely out when she noticed Killian. The room may have been dark, but she’d see his black ass anywhere, especially like that. Thanks to Jesse, if it was one thing East could do, it was spot some bullshit, and that nigga Killian was on it extra hard.
Slouched back on a small sofa in the corner with one leg kicked out in front of him, and the other occupied by Sheena’s ass, Killian was trying to die. A death that would come quicker than he could blink if East had anything to do with it.
“Yo, li’l homie, let’s slide to the kitchen real quick.”
“So, this why you were trying to distract me? You were covering for this nigga?” East stood to her feet with a scowl on her face. “Fuck you and fuck him.”
East was a raging bull as she strutted toward Killian. Being that he was already facing her, his eyes caught her immediately. The same sexy look that he gave her every time she was in his presence appeared, only this time it didn’t linger. Instead, he smirked and returned his attention to Sheena. East’s head was about to explode. She was so mad.
“Have you lost your muthafucking mind?” East walked straight up to him and pushed the side of his head before snaking her hand around Sheena’s throat.
“Bitch, why you trying me? Y’all think I’m a fucking game, don’t y’all?”
Sheena instantly reached for her throat to remove East’s hand, but East wouldn’t allow her.
“Man, go ’head with that shit.” Killian’s voice dragged as he stood from his seat, causing Sheena to stumble to her feet.
Instead of trying to help her gain her footing, he grabbed East instead.
“Killian, are fucking kidding me? You’re drunk as shit right now.” East snatched away while glaring at him.
With a cocky smirk on his face, Killian pulled his hat lower on his head before looking around from Yeshi back to East, then to Sheena. When he smiled at Sheena and reached his hand out to her, East could have blown through the roof.
“Let’s slide.”
East stepped in front of Killian and roughly grabbed the bottom of his face. “I will fucking kill you!”
It took nothing for Killian to pull out of her grasp. “Stop embarrassing yourself, ma.”
Embarrassing myself? The fuck? Nigga!
East’s hands shook from her anger. With fury lacing through every inch of her body, East scoffed and nodded.
“Aight then, fuck your bitch ass.” She turned to Sheena. “Wait on this ass whooping, bitch, because you better believe it’s coming.”
Since East had learned long ago not to allow a nigga and his bitch to take her too far out of her element, she turned and walked away. She made eye contact with Yeshi as she passed him. Empathy and pity had now taken the place of the jovial, liquor induced smile he’d been wearing all night.
“You gon’ be straight?” he asked with a raised brow.
East nodded but kept her pace. She needed to get away from Killian. Once she did that, she’d be able to face anything, but being there with him and him not being there with her was agonizing.
“You that worried, you might as well make sure she’s good.”
Not even wanting to stop herself, East grabbed the beer bottle out of the man’s hand she’d just passed and turned around. The glass crashed across the top of Sheena’s forehead, drawing a loud wail from her. East looked at her slumped over holding her head.
“Check on your bitch, Kill.”
East threw the bottle to the ground and walked away. She pushed her way through the crowd, not knowing what was going to happen once she left the party, but not really giving a fuck either. There were cabs everywhere; she’d catch one of them before she waited for Killian’s punk ass.
The night’s breeze cooled her the moment she stepped back onto the porch. With her cell phone in her hand, she scrolled until coming across the number for a cab company. Since Vegas was a city that thrived at night, it didn’t take long for her to get a cab. To wait on it, she walked to the edge of the driveway and leaned against the tall, brick mailboxes along the corner.
“Where you headed?” Yeshi stopped next to her.
The tall bottle of brown liquor he’d been holding all night hung by his side as he waited for an answer. Instead of answering, East reached for the bottle. She took a long drink from it, totally disregarding the questioning look on Yeshi’s face.
“Slow that shit down before you be around here on your ass somewhere.”
East shrugged and drank a little more before passing it back to him.
“Aye, go back in there. Kill don’t mean that shit. He and Sheena just go way back.”
The look on East’s face was sure to let Yeshi know that she didn’t give two fucks how far back or front they went. Respect and boundaries were one thing, and he’d crossed them both.
“He knew better than to pull that disrespectful mess on me like that.”
Yeshi stretched and scratched at the back of his neck. “Well, we was dancing and shit.”
“So! Had Killian came over there, I would have walked straight away from your ass. I wouldn’t have done him how he just did me, but it’s cool. He can fuck off with Sheena until he dies for all I care.”
“You care.”
“I won’t for long.”
Yeshi took a swig from his bottle and nodded. “Just be safe. You know your way back to the hotel?”
East shook her head, slowly feeling the effects of all the liquor she’d just ingested.
“Yo, you good?”
“Yep.”
“It don’t look like it. You shook your head slow as a muthafucka just now.”
Smiles and shrugs were all East rendered.
“Shit. You done got your ass drunk that fast.” Yeshi sighed. “Let me call and check in with my boy real quick so I can make sure you straight.” His cell phone was out and in his hand, but East grabbed it and stuck it in her bra.
“No, don’t call Killian. He’s with his girlfriend. Let that hoe break his heart again.”
“Give me my phone back. I wasn’t even calling Kill.”
“Who’s your boy then?”
Yeshi nodded his head back toward the party. “The nigga I’m having the party with.”
East squinted at him before handing him his phone back.
“Titties got my phone all warm and shit.” He joked and slid his finger across the screen a few times before pressing it to his ear.
East stood idly by, just watching him and everything going on around them. When her cab pulled up, he was still on the phone but got off quickly when she began to stumble a little toward the door.
“Yooo.” He grabbed East just as she tripped on a rock. “Wait a minute, ma. Let me help you.” Yeshi’s strong hand grabbed her arm and helped her into the backseat of the black and white cab.
“Where to?” the driver asked as soon as Yeshi slid in behind her and closed the door.
“Just take us back to the strip,” Yeshi answered.
The driver nodde
d and pulled off. East was slowly fading from taking the strong drinks straight. Her head was spinning, and her mind was fuzzy as she watched the bright lights in the sky flicker and glow in the distance. Vegas was so pretty. East smiled while wrapping both of her arms around one of Yeshi’s.
“You okay?”
East nodded and closed her eyes. Killian popped up immediately. All of the smiles, all of the jokes, all of the sex… god, the sex. East sighed as her eyes began to gloss over. She’d been here before, hurt by a man. Embarrassed, made a fool of, all of the above by a nigga, and though she’d vowed to never be again, there she was.
“Don’t cry. He’s just mad. He’ll be alright.”
“I don’t care.” East sniffed. “Why is it so hard for me to just make you happy? Why do y’all have to do everything under the sun first?”
Yeshi didn’t say anything as she vented in slurs.
“I mean, all I want to do is get married and live happily ever after with my man. How hard is that?”
“Not too hard, as long as you do it with a good man.”
East looked up at him. “You think you’re a good man?”
Yeshi rubbed his chin. “I’m not too bad… Kill is better, though.”
“Whatever. Can we get out now? This riding is making my stomach hurt.”
Yeshi told the driver to drop them off while East sat up. Once the car had come to a stop, Yeshi got out first and helped her the rest of the way. East could barely walk, but somehow, she was making it. Hours passed as she and Yeshi walked the strip. When they finally stopped at the entrance to her and Killian’s hotel, she paused and looked at him.
“Thank you, but I think I got it.”
“I don’t think so. Get your room key out. Let me make sure you’re safe before I leave.”
East wanted to pout, but it felt good to have the attention, so she didn’t. Instead, she walked into the building with him following close behind. They rode the elevator and walked the hall until East stopped in front of her and Killian’s room.
She swiped the key and pushed the door open. Yeshi followed her in, catching her off guard. She’d thought he was going to stop at the door, but how wrong was she. He was in there, with her, alone. East was uneasy for a minute as he took a seat on the bed.
