Reaching inward, his well was full to the top. Alec grasped at his power and met a surface just before it. Someone had shielded him! In a panic he hammered against the shield with his all his will. Nothing seen to even faze it in the slightest.
“The shield isn’t tied off and will be removed once we make it back to the Archmage.” Robert told him.
Alec looked to the right where he stood next to Sherry with Allen behind them. Alec hated the smug look on Sherry’s face. One way or another he would get rid of the shield then he’d keep his promise.
Christi worked hard. The men acted out her orders to the letter. Travis continued to praise her every time she made a move and gave her reasons why one order was better than the one she’d given when she messed up. She ate lunch with him for the third time and wondered if she hadn’t been judging him too harshly.
With the end of the week coming fast, she would be spending an even greater amount of time with Travis. As two of the most powerful students they would each lead a company of soldiers in the army when it left. Students weren’t originally supposed to go with the army at all but something had changed.
Christi’s only question was if she was betraying Alec by continuing to associate with Travis outside of command purposes. She didn’t return his flirting but couldn’t say that she didn’t like it either. He made her feel wanted.
Lord Marcus stood next to her a stone like look on his face. Silvia had felt Melanie die from halfway across the continent. The mages had buried her next to the small lake and put a crude marker at the head.
Marcus had yet talk to her about the release of the Banished and she couldn’t help but wonder how they could have been so wrong.
Slowly the other gods arrived. Every god had felt the barrier fall and then the death. If they could they would all come to the meeting. She knew the first order of business would be Alec and if he should be held accountable for Melanie’s death. The second would be how they would deal with the Banished and the fact that he, they, were so much more powerful than the rest of them.
She worried even more for Marcus, and what he would do.
