Sheet Music

by K. L. Myers

It’s midnight when I finally usher the last guest out of the house. By the time I undress and climb into bed, Kayla is ready to pass out. That’s until she feels my hand slide over her stomach and land on her breast. We are well past the insecurity stage of everything she has gone through. We are committed to looking forward and not looking back. She kicked cancer’s ass as far as I’m concerned; now, we’re in the home stretch. Five years. If we make it five years, the chances of it coming back drop dramatically.

“Princess, are you too tired for me to show you just how much I love you?” I whisper in her ear as my tongue licks the bottom edge of her lobe.

A soft moan and a little whimper escape from her throat. “I’m never too tired for you, Rock God.”

I love how she calls me Rock God. Just as I’m about to slip my tongue into her mouth, my phone begins to ring. I try to ignore it by deepening the kiss, but it continues to go off. One call after the other, the phone keeps ringing.

“Fucking hell. I’m going to kill whoever this is!” I yell as I climb off the bed.

Kayla laughs at how angry I am. “It’s obviously important, Cayson.”

Picking up the phone, I see Rocky’s name. “What!” I yell as I answer.

“Cayson, help me. I fucked up. Please.”

“Rocky? Rocky, answer me, buddy. You still there?” Holding the phone in my hand, I can see he hasn’t hung up, but I’m getting no response.

  Acknowledgments

To my beta readers: Krista Hunn, Ellen Crotts, Miranda Hunter, and Alexis Whitney. Thank you for your wonderful input. Krista (my rock ‘n’ roll bitch,) your insight helped tremendously. Ellen, thank you for keeping my storyline in check and the words flowing smoothly. Miranda and Alexis, you were my grammar police, something I completely suck at. I love you all.

A special thank you to Ari Aiello and Rayn Fenty for sharing with me their struggles with breast cancer. You ladies are amazing and fierce. You’re an inspiration. Thank you for letting me be a part of your battles as you heroically fought through. Your constant positivity speaks volumes about how strong you are.

Eric Battershell – Eric Battershell Photography, I couldn’t do this without you. You’ve been there from day one with me, providing me the most amazing cover photos to work with. Thank you for dealing with my inability to make decisions without looking at God knows how many photos. I know I’m the worst at telling you what I want, but truthfully, I don’t know it until I see one of your photos and it just screams at me that this is the one I need for my cover. I am so blessed to have you as not only my friend but my photographer.

Chase Bergner – I absolutely had a tough time deciding on which photo to use. To say it was a challenge narrowing it down to just five and then to just one is an understatement. There were so many photos that called out to me as Cayson, but in the end, this one won hands down.

Dana Leah from Designs by Dana - what can I say? You always amaze me each, and every time we start a project, I’m so proud to have you as my designer and to call you my friend.

HJ Bellus – My lovely formatter for the Razor’s Edge Series. Thank you for formatting for me. Thank you for joining forces with Lydia Harbaugh HEA PR. You both are amazing at promoting this book and series. Love you dearly.

Lastly, thank you, readers, for purchasing Sheet Music (Razor’s Edge Book 1.) I hope you enjoyed Cayson and Kayla’s story as much as I did writing it. Life is too short to let obstacles stand in our way. Kayla’s character hit very close to home for me as I watched two dear friends struggle side by side at the same time. I’m happy to say that as this book releases, both of them are officially now cancer free. It’s not over for them, but at least the future looks positive now.

If you’ve enjoyed reading this book, please take a moment to leave a review. Your review is the greatest gift you can give an author.
