It was all to be in vain. In the late fall, the forces of Meriadoc moc Maglocunos laid siege.
The months passed, then ogrosan laid its icy grip upon Erain, and the brave defenders of Ivernis. Skirmishes erupted between foraging parties on both sides and men died, their blood staining the pure white snow.
By spring, hunger was making itself felt upon the garrison. Several deserted, making their way over to Meriadoc to report upon the desperate nature of things inside. And in the self-same spring, the Casse chieftain launched his assault.
Twelve hundred men against four hundred and fifty. An almost three to one advantage.
But Praesutagos was the son of Malac, and his treachery was matched only by his bravery. Under his leadership, the defenders of Ivernis fought like wolves, bringing down scores of their opponents.
But all was in vain. At the end of the second week of the assault, Ivernis fell to the Casse. Praesutagos and Mabon both died fighting like men, swords in their hands. And with their death, so died the resistance.
The Aeduan kingdom of Erain had lasted a mere thirty years…
