So that was it, just leave the body there till someone moved it like it was a piece of trash. There were no police called to the scene, no ambulance, no paramedics. In a few moments someone’s loved one would be nothing more than another disappearance on the news. That grim reality, along with the sight of under aged hoes and druggies waiting for another fix was further confirmation the he wasn’t bout’ that life.

Aviare knew that he better pretend that hadn’t seen or heard anything. Somehow his nice warm bed at home with Aintee Maven didn’t seem so bad right about now.

“Here go some clothes. You can take a shower in there,” announced Marcellus as he attempted to read Aviare’s eyes. He could clearly see that the boy was terrified by the way he was trembling. The only question was, would he talk? Could he be trusted to keep his mouth shut?

The thought of undressing and showering in this house made Aviare feel nervous and defenseless but he had no choice. He couldn’t let anyone see him in the state he was in. He locked the bathroom door and quickly undressed. He could hear the whisk of money counting machines at work in one room and a female sounding like a train was being run on her in the next.

Everything was moving too quickly for him to process. His stomach felt like it was in knots.

As the hot water washed over his body, Aviare stared at the blood as it circled the drain. Before he knew it, he found himself crying like a new born baby. He had actually witnessed a murder. He should have listened to Aintee Maven and Ace, they was right all along.

By the time he was done slipping into the fresh set of clothing that had been presented to him, Aviare had made his mind up. He was going to tell Marcellus tonight that he wanted out. He had only run for him a few times so it shouldn’t be any problem with letting him go.

“You alright?” Marcellus asked as he handed Aviare a garbage bag for his soiled clothes.

“Yeah... I’m ok.” Aviare didn’t want to make small talk. The faster he got out of that house the better. He figured this was as good of time as any to get straight to the point.

“I’m done,” Aviare declared. “I appreciate the work but I won’t be back tomorrow.”

Despite trying to sound hard his voice shook with hesitation and fear. Marcellus wasn’t a very big man but he was a dangerous one. He only stood at 5’7 and had a rather skinny build, but what he lacked in stature was made up by the 9mm he kept in his waistband.

“Look at yo’ little ass trying to have some balls,” Marcellus laughed and looked Aviare in his eyes.

Aviare could have sworn he was staring back at Satan himself. There was not a hint of glimmer in his dark pupils, only pure cold evil. He shifted nervously from foot to foot as he waited for his response.

Much to Aviare’s surprise Marcellus remained calm and smiled at him.

“Ok that’s cool.... I just need you to do one more favor for me. Somebody owes me some money and I need you to pick it up then you are free to go.”

Aviare let out a sigh of relief. This was too easy. Marcellus wasn’t a monster after all. Maybe his looks were deceiving.

“Cool. I can do that. You want me to come back tomorrow?” Aviare asked.

“Nah... I’ll contact you in a few days. Keep your phone on.”

As Aviare sat on the train watching for his stop he couldn’t help but feel elated that he made it home in one piece. He would do this one last run for Marcellus and that part of his life would be over for good, lesson learned. Not even the cussing he was about to get from Aintee Maven for coming in late could dampen his spirits after what he had been through. In fact, it was actually going to be good to hear the sound of her voice. Somehow tonight he felt as though he was really going to appreciate it.

  Chapter 11- Play Time

It had been an exhausting day. Not only did Lexi witness Sonnet pushing up on her man, she had to lay hands on the bitch, something she thought she would never have to do but she wasn’t surprised one bit.

This was the very reason she didn’t let Sonnet stay at her place, after finding out about her and Kenterris she knew that she couldn’t put shit past her.

Low key she was still salty at Darius for paying for that hoe’s shit at the store, and for holding her back and not letting her fully unleash her fury on that bitch. At the end of the day she understood where he was coming from.

Not only was Sonnet not worth catching a case over, especially when he was about to get off parole. Their son was in the back seat and didn’t need to witness his momma’s ratchetness.

It was all good though. Lexi had no doubt in her mind that Sonnet would one day get what was coming to her. She did people dirty and never batted an eye. When Karma finally paid that bitch a visit it wasn’t going to be pretty.

Even though Lexi and Sonnet had known each other for over 20 years and Lexi had looked out for her numerous times it didn’t erase the fact that Sonnet very rarely returned the favor. When she did it was always half assed, especially if she wasn’t getting anything out of it.

One of the hardest things to do in life is to let go of a friendship once its run its course. Even though Lexi once loved Sonnet like a sister she realized that sometimes salvaging a friendship can be like picking up the pieces of broken glass. The harder you try to put the pieces back together the more you get cut.

Lexi also finally had to admit to herself that is was time for her to make a change as well. She use to look up to Sonnet like she was some sort of role model when the fact remained she wasn’t shit. But that’s what happens when you suffer from low self-esteem. Once Lexi started loving herself she soon realized Sonnet was toxic and didn’t mean her any good.

Meanwhile things were going good with Darius and that’s where her focus needed to be, on her own family.

After the day she had, she decided that after Quantez was in bed she would make some margaritas, take a long hot bath, then get out and call Cheron. She couldn’t wait to tell her about the shit that went down with Sonnet.

The only part of her plan that came to fruition that night was the drinks and the bath. As far as her gossiping till wee hours in the morning with Cheron, Darius had other plans...

  Later that night

Lexi’s eyes rolled back as Darius’ full lips traced her inner thigh. Her juices flowed freely from his relentless teasing. She bit her lower lip and ran her fingers through her hair as she felt his hot breath on her labia then move away. Just when she couldn’t stand it any longer, she felt his stiff tongue flicking back and forth over her clit.

Darius had Lexi so worked up that she practically had an instant orgasm from the combination of him sucking on her clit while his thick middle finger slid in and out of her drenched pussy. By now he ached to be inside of her.

Once he climbed on top of her and spread her legs, he took his time and slowly teased the opening of her slit till was about to scream. Not only was Darius blessed with length and girth, he knew how to use it. And despite his short comings in the past, he was always an attentive lover that catered to every one of Lexi’s sexual needs.

The fact that he was the best lover Lexi ever had also contributed to her feelings for him. She tried to deny the pull he had on her but she was crazy about him and she literally became weak when he touched her body.

What started out as tender lovemaking turned into raw, heated, animalistic sex. It was like he was banging her with the intentions of letting her know this was his pussy.

“Shhhh, we gon’ wake Quantez,” Lexi whispered as she relished every inch and every thrust.

As they grinded rhythmically Darius buried his face in the pillow to avoid waking their son from his vocals. Once Darius neared orgasm, he sped up his thrusts, pounding her forcefully as the headboard banged against the wall in protest. Their bodies trembled violently as he lost control and shot his load. The night ended with the pair’s sweaty bodies climaxed to exhaustion.

Darius scooted behind Lexi’s body that was now in the fetal position and spooned with her. He brushed her hair to
the side and gently kissed the back of her neck.

“I know you scared about moving in together, but I promise I will do everything in my power to make you happy. I love you, Lexi.”

She turned and looked into his eyes.

  “I love you too Darius.”

They stayed up chatting, having a long heart to heart discussion about each other’s expectations, their son, and the fact that they both wanted to one day be married.

The fact that Darius’ final goal was to marry Lexi sealed the deal. She agreed to move into the new place. She knew she was taking a leap of faith but it was worth a shot. And at the end of the day she would utilize Cheron’s advice and plan for a rainy day just in case.

Chapter 12 – Truth Or Consequences

  Next afternoon

“Look at his punk ass sitting there acting like I don’t even exist,” Sonnet hissed as she stared at Kenterris from a crack in her room door.

He had just grabbed himself a beer and parked in front of the 60 inch flat screen. After finally settling on a college football game he kicked back to relax.

I wonder where Cheron is, Sonnet thought. Maybe she’s in the room. Is it possible we’re here alone? If they were, this would be a perfect opportunity for her to fuck with him.

She had been waiting for a moment to catch him alone and remind him of what he had been missing.

After taking a shower and swallowing several Motrin to curb her banging headache from the hangover she had, she quickly curled her hair and applied makeup.

The last time Kenterris saw her was the morning after she moved in. It was the first time he had seen her since she fell off. She was still beautiful, but seeing her in sweats and a head rag was a down grade from her usual glammed up appearance.

He caught her off guard that time; however, she wouldn’t make the same mistake twice. When he saw her this time her shit was gon’ be on point, just like he remembered her.

She didn’t know what came over her trying to fuck with Darius in the first place. It was beneath her to fuck with blue collar niggas. That’s why the shit went foul, it wasn’t meant to be.

This nigga trying to pretend like he’s here for Cheron, he knows he wanted to see me. He ain’t fooling my ass with that mad act. Deep inside I know he regrets us breaking up just as much as me, she thought.

Despite being delusional about Kenterris still wanting her, she had it made up in her mind that if he didn’t come to his senses and choose her over Cheron she was spilling everything. This was her plan from the jump, and she decided to give him a second chance to redeem himself.

She had to move fast seeing as she didn’t know when Cheron was returning. She most likely ran out to get more rations so they could hole up in that damn room later on. The plan was simple, she would go out and make her move on Kenterris, and if he wanted to still act brand new the shit was going to hit the fan.

Sonnet held on to the fact that based on their history, Cheron always chose her over her men. All she would need to do is let her know Kenterris came on to her, and his ass would be history. Unlike Lexi’s bitch ass, Cheron understood loyalty and what it meant to hold on to a friend.

Her plan couldn’t have been at a more perfect time. Sonnet giggled as she looked at the results of the fertility test she had just taken. She wasn’t trying to be nobody’s momma, but she always kept a Clear Blue fertility monitor as her ace in the hole. She tried to hold out for as long as she could but if getting pregnant by Kenterris meant securing her future so be it.

If she played her cards right, not only would he and Cheron call it quits, she would have ties to him for the next 18 years. There was no way a man like Kenterris would skip out on his fatherly duties. Plus, even if he didn’t get with her she knew as long as she had his child she would be living the good life like she deserved.

I wonder can we sneak in a few quickies while he’s here this weekend, she thought as she eased out of her room and began her parade around the kitchen. She knew it would only be a matter of time before he noticed her considering she was only wearing panties.

She couldn’t have been more than correct. As soon as Kenterris spotted her walking around practically naked he shook his head in disgust and went back to watching his game.

“Hey wassup? You want some company?” Sonnet asked as she made her way to the living room.

“Sonnet, get the hell out of here and go put some clothes on!” Kenterris snapped. “You ain’t got shit I want.”

“Oh yeah... you done forgot how we use to get it in?”

She spoke softly as she stood in front of the television blocking his view. This nigga been looking at Cheron’s chunky ass for so long he done forgot what a real dime looks like.

“You really are a fucking snake; you would try this shit with me right up in your girl’s house?” Kenterris snarled.

“Whatever nigga, you know this shit looks good,” she replied as she turned her ass towards him and made it clap. “Remember how you use to hit it from the back? And I know you wanna suck these titties.” She spun around, licked her finger and teased her nipples before squeezing her tits then letting them fall free. She then made her way to the sofa. Her failed attempt to straddle him resulted in her being pushed to the floor.

“Get the fuck off of me!” You a sick ass woman, I’m sorry I ever fucked with you in the first place. That was the worst mistake of my life.”

After getting over the initial embarrassment of being rejected Sonnet flew into a rage.

“Fuck you nigga! You ain’t no damn saint! The worst mistake of your life was thinking you could just drop me when you got finished with me. Well I got news for your punk ass, when Cheron finds out you been fucking her best friend yo’ ass is toast.”

“You right, I ain’t no saint, and I don’t know what Cheron’s choice is gonna be, but you can best believe imma do everything in my power to make it right. So do what the fuck you need to do but just know that you ain’t got shit coming this way. Your sorry ass needs to get a job and quit sponging off my damn woman.”

“Your woman?” Sonnet sneered. It was one thing to know that he and Cheron were together, another to actually hear him say it.

By now she was seething. She wanted to slap the shit out of him but she had other pressing business. It was worth one more shot at trying to get him to fuck her. Hopefully she could talk some sense into him before this bitch got back.

“Look Kenterris we both know that working shit ain’t for me. And as far as Cheron is concerned, I can see why you want to be with her. I mean a niggas like you pick homely women all the time so they ain’t got to worry about her creepin’. That still don’t erase the fact that when you needed to get yo’ dick wet by a real dime you came to see me. That bitch ain’t got shit on me; if she did half the niggas she fucked with over the years would have tried to sex me. And at the end of the day guess who she chose? Me. You barking up the wrong dame tree if you think Cheron will choose your unfaithful ass over her best friend.”

Suddenly the front door swung open.

“Not this time bitch!” Cheron shrieked. She had been standing outside the whole time watching everything that went down.

“Cheron!” Sonnet sputtered nervously as she tried to cover her breast. “He tried to rape me!”

“Bitch, you done lost yo’ damn mind! This rat tried to push up on me!” Kenterris yelled.

Before either him or Sonnet could get another word in, Cheron punched Sonnet dead in her mouth causing the blood to ooze from her bottom lip. She was in complete shock. She had never seen this side of Cheron before.

“Cheron, what the fuck....” Sonnet replied as she scrambled to her feet and tried to lunge for her.

“Bitch are you crazy! How are you going to take his word over mine?” Sonnet screamed and clawed at Cheron’s face drawing blood.

Kenterris snatched Sonnet by her wrist and drew her arm up behind her. “Calm the fuck down! You started this shit!”

  “Fuck you Kenterris! Did he
tell you he was fucking me behind your back?” Sonnet asked Cheron as she tried to wiggle free.

Cheron grabbed Sonnet by her throat and looked into her eyes.

“As a matter of fact he did. He told me everything this morning. I been outside the whole time, and I saw and heard everything.”

Sonnet blinked her eyes as the tears rolled down her cheeks. She struggled to catch her breath as Cheron’s grip got stronger.

“I chose you in the past but that was my mistake. I actually thought you were my friend.”

Tears now fell from Cheron’s eyes as she released Sonnet.

“I am your friend, Cheron. You know it’s me and you forever. These punk ass niggas come a dime a dozen.”

“You were never my friend Sonnet. I was too naive to see it. Get your shit and get the fuck out of my house. Leave the key on the counter.”

Cheron and Kenterris headed to the bedroom and slammed the door, leaving Sonnet once again without a place to stay.

She was outdone at the way Cheron took Kenterris’ side over hers.

Little to Sonnet’s knowledge the guilt had been eating Kenterris up inside. Along with the fact that he knew it was only going to be a matter of time before Sonnet tried to blackmail him.

He decided to come clean and tell Cheron everything. He knew he was taking a chance that he might lose the woman he loved forever, but it was a risk he was willing to take. He wanted that bitch Sonnet out of their lives forever.

Not only did he tell Cheron everything, he let her listen to the messages Sonnet left on his phone talking about her behind her back.

Cheron was so hurt and upset that she decided to go outside and clear her head before she committed double homicide. Plus it coincided with their plan for her to be hidden when Sonnet discovered she and Kenterris were alone.

As far as Sonnet knew, Cheron had forgiven Kenterris, and they were still a couple. Little did she know that it was quite the contrary, Cheron was no one’s fool. Love or no love the reality of her man fucking her best friend was an act that was unforgivable. She had been good to Kenterris and stood by his side through thick and thin and this shit right here cut her deep.
