“What you’re implying is ridiculous and your presence isn’t wanted here,” Waylen said.
“Let’s not get too…” I tried to defuse things, but suddenly, I was invisible to them.
“I’m commander of this ship cousin, my presence is necessary,” Knor said. I leaned against the door and decided to watch. Maybe they’d tear off their shirts and start beating their chests.
“You wouldn’t be in your position if I hadn’t allowed it, Commander,” Waylen said. Knor’s eyes turned a slate grey color, which was scary. I glanced around, hoping for a crew member or two to walk by in case they started fighting for real.
“What are you doing here at Aliya’s door? Did she even invite you to her room?” Knor asked harshly, in his anger he’d switched to Bagarian tongue and I had to quickly translate in my head.
“Guys, let’s not get too—” I tried to interject again, but then Waylen stepped into Knor’s personal space. I was briefly transported back to the third grade when two best friends, Cody and Derek, had a crush on me. For an entire week, they’d do different sorts of relay races at recess to see who was the best boy for me. On the last Friday, when it was clear that they were both evenly matched, they got into a fist fight over me. Really, I was just an innocent bystander in their stupidity. But with Waylen and Knor, I wasn’t excusable, I’d been with both of them and it was my fault if they got into a bad fight.
“I don’t need an invitation to check on her,” Waylen said between clenched teeth, he’d switched to their native language as well.
“Actually, yes you do and so do you Knor. I was busy just now,” I said, stepping between them. “The two of you aren’t going to do this. Especially not over me. For the love of all sanity, you’re cousins. Relax, you aren’t killing each other,” I said. Waylen stared down at me, his expression still pissed, but he stepped back. Knor took a deep breath behind me.
“What are you doing Aliya?” Knor asked. I turned slightly to face the both of them.
“You mean right now?” I asked, pointing to my room.
“No, with us,” he said. “Are we sharing you?”
“Sharing me?” I repeated the question slowly to buy myself time. I glanced at Waylen and then back to Knor. I couldn’t make a choice, I wanted them both. I certainly wanted Knor and I was definitely still drawn to Waylen. I thought about the merits of moonwalking back into my room and pretending they weren’t out in the hall.
“Aliya,” Waylen said, reeling back my train of thought.
“I don’t know, I can’t make up my feelings about either of you,” I admitted. “I really…I don’t want to—okay this is too much for me,” I said. I threw up my hands and turned around to go back inside.
“No, wait…” Knor caught my hand and pulled me back.
“I’m just confused. I’m attracted to both of you, I have feelings for both of you and that’s all I can say right now.” I said that all on one breath and ended it with a sheepish shrug. “Please leave, you guys are giving me heart palpitations,” I added. Before either of them could say anything, I stepped back into my room and shut the door quickly.
“Don’t kill each other,” I called through the door.
“Aliya open the door,” Waylen called in return.
“Nope, I’ll see you both much later,” I said. No one else said anything and so I went back to bed and pressed play on the movie.
* * *
Two movies later and one of them was back, knocking. I debated becoming celibate, but then I’d have to give up Knor and Waylen and I wasn’t ready to do that yet. Taking a deep breath, I got up and answered the door. It was Waylen again.
“Hi,” I said.
“Sorry I didn’t call first.” His hands were in his pockets and he was watching me with a slightly hopeful expression. “Can I come in?” I nodded and moved aside. “I want you to make up your mind about who you want Aliya,” he said.
“Believe me, I want to make up my mind too,” I said.
“I will make sure you choose me,” he said. His lips tilted up in a smirk and I bit my lip to keep from grinning too wide.
“How?”
Waylen took my hand and pulled me close. He tilted his head down and brushed his lips over mine, feather light. “With my charm and wit of course,” he said. He pulled me flush against his chest and kissed my neck. I put my palm on his chest and pushed him back a step.
“I don’t know much about you,” I said. Waylen’s brow furrowed a little bit, then he nodded.
“What would you like to know?” he sat down on the edge of the bed, then glanced across the room at the projected movie on the wall. I’d started making my way through the Star Wars episodes. I sat on the bed and scooted back against the headboard.
“How’d you come to be High General?” I asked. Waylen ran his hand through his thick hair and glanced off into space for a moment.
“My father put me into the military academy at a young age. I excelled through the ranks,” he said.
“How young?”
“I was a ground commander at eighteen since they have an age requirement for being in the space sector. As soon as I turned twenty I made the transition and became a pilot. But I had so many accomplishments from my time in the standard ranks that I quickly became a space commander and it was up from there,” he said.
“Sounds like you’re a smart guy,” I said. I poked his thigh with my toe and he stretched out on the bed, his head resting near my thighs.
“What else would you like to know?” he said. I was impressed he was being so forthcoming. Most guys didn’t like to talk too much in general.
“Your parents are still alive?”
“Yes, and one brother. Though you won’t be meeting him,” he quipped.
“Oh please!” I said and hit him in the face with a pillow. Waylen looked at me with surprise and slowly sat up.
“Did you just hit me in the face with a pillow?” he asked, his voice deadly calm. I used another pillow as a shield in front of my knees and nodded.
“I don’t know what you’re implying with that comment, but it wasn’t nice,” I said. Waylen tilted his head to the side and gave me a bland look. I hit him again, landing the pillow on his chest. He moved fast, grabbing me around the waist and lifting me up to drop me back onto the bed playfully.
“I’ll tell you what isn’t nice,” he spoke over my kid-like giggles. “Beguiling me and forcing me to compete for you against my own cousin,” he said. Waylen pinched me lightly in the sides, tickling me. I wouldn’t have ever fathomed Waylen to be the playful type.
“Okay! I can’t breathe,” I said between my laughter. Waylen stopped tickling me and bent to press his lips against mine. His hands slid underneath my sweater, I was naked underneath, along my sides.
“Tell me something about yourself,” he murmured. His fingers traced circular patterns along my ribs, just under my breasts and sent shivers through me.
“Like what?” I said, my voice breathy.
“What was it like growing up on Earth?” he said.
“Uh, green…” I said. Waylen chuckled and lifted my sweater, revealing my belly button. He kissed my belly, just below the navel. “I grew up in Maryland…on the Chesapeake Bay. My father’s house was in the family for generations,” I said.
“No siblings? Your mother?” he asked. I paused, not even Knor knew about my family history. I never talked about it much. We danced around topics like school and friends growing up, but never anything much deeper than that yet. Waylen tugged gently on a lock of my hair.
“I’m an only child and…my mother—she’s flighty. She was never a consistent presence in my life,” I said. Waylen’s brows pulled together as he digested all that.
“You do not speak to her now?” he asked.
“Nope, but that’s okay. I’m in the news enough that she knows I’m successful,” I said. “No thanks to her,” I added on a mumble.
“Do you think so?” he asked. I looked at him with incredulity.
What I mean is, would you have become so successful if she’d been in your life? To nurture you,” he asked.
“If she’d been in my life more, maybe I would have had a richer upbringing. I would’ve had normal experiences that every daughter should with her mother.” I pulled my sweater down, upset. “But I still would’ve ended up where I am today. The schools I went to and impression society had on me would have still existed,” I said. Waylen studied me for a second, then he nodded.
“You’re right. Your intelligence and drive are inherent to your personality. I did not mean to upset you,” he said.
“Yeah,” I sighed.
“Forgiven?” he asked.
“I wasn’t aware you said sorry,” I teased. Waylen smirked and then lifted my sweater again to nip at my stomach.
“I’m sorry,” he said. Then he kissed my hip and worked his way down, pulling off my tights as he went. Once my pants were off, I sat up to take off his shirt and straddled his hips.
“I usually don’t talk about her,” I said. Waylen held my gaze, his eyes were steady and understanding.
“You’re angry with her,” he said. I took a deep breath and nodded.
“It’s silly, I shouldn’t be. I mean, I’m grown up. I have a…good life,” I sighed.
Waylen rubbed his hands up and down my calves, I mentally shook myself, then tilted my head to kiss him. He slid his tongue into my mouth and gripped my waist tight. I wanted to taste more of him. I slid my lips to his jaw, then kissed his neck and caressed the muscles of his arms and back. I pushed him flat on the bed and unbuttoned his jeans. He quickly pulled them off for me, freeing his cock. It was thick and fully erect, curling towards his belly button.
Lust swept through me, causing my nipples to harden under my sweater and the muscles of my core to clench. I gripped his cock and then flicked my tongue over the tip. Waylen growled, his hips moved to the side restlessly and I slid my lips around his sex. I barely got the chance to do what I wanted. His cock was rock hard in my hand, he lifted my chin so that I would stop. Then he changed positions, moving me around so that I was bent over. He slid his fingers into me, to make sure I was wet enough, then his cock replaced them.
He pushed in slowly at first, at that angle he went deep. It didn’t take long before my insides were turning to lava and all I could feel was pleasure at every nerve ending. Waylen picked up his pace and we moved together until we were both racing towards release. My orgasm nearly knocked me out. My limbs went limp and Waylen held me up, pumping into me hard until he came, emptying into me. My body shook with aftershocks of pleasure and I tried to catch my breath.
“God, what was that?” I said, my voice mostly breath. Waylen chuckled then he kissed my spine. We slowly detached and I fell limp onto the bed, needing to close my eyes for a little while.
“Come shower with me?” he asked. I peeked one eye open and found him smirking at me.
“Okay, but you have to carry me,” I said. He scooped me up and we were off for round two.

I woke up next to Waylen after a short nap. The clock on the nightstand read eight p.m. He was in nothing but his underwear. I’d stolen his shirt for myself.
“Replenished?” he asked. His tone was distracted and I realized he was watching Star Wars.
“Sort of, I’m hungry though,” I said and stretched before getting up. My phone rang and I dug for it under much of our clothes still on the ground. It was Knor calling from the ship’s network. I took a deep breath, but let the call go unanswered. “Aren’t you hungry?” I asked Waylen.
“I suppose, you’re leaving for the cafeteria now?” he asked.
“Yep.” I changed out of his shirt and went to get underwear and jeans. I used my sweater, instead of dressing up completely. Waylen was dressed and ready to go, though he was still paying attention to the movie.
“Caught your eye, huh?” I teased.
“The story is intriguing,” he admitted. I paused the movie and led the way into the hall.
“So, other than the crew, who’s on the ship?” I asked him.
“Other high ranking officials,” he told me.
“Any women? Because on the transport ship from Earth there were no women whatsoever,” I said.
“Why, are you looking for a friend?” he asked.
“Maybe,” I murmured. We took the elevator down to the main level and made our way to the cafeteria. But as we crossed through the main atrium, some pilot in uniform caught Waylen’s attention, needing to speak with him about something.
“Just catch up with me later Waylen,” I told him. He glanced at the pilot reluctantly, not wanting to let me go. But I didn’t give him a choice, I was already walking away. I found the cafeteria, after only getting lost once. There was a decent amount of people spread out at the four seater round tables. I went to serve myself at the buffet style counter. I stuck with veggies and lentils. I really didn’t trust the food that much, no matter if it was the same as eating at any other kind of cafeteria. As I turned to find a table, I spotted Knor eating by himself. He was reading something from a tablet and looked very preoccupied. It was my turn to turn up from thin air on him.
I walked over to him and he looked up only as I set my plate down across from his. “Interesting read?” I asked.
He glanced around, probably looking for Waylen. “Interesting indeed, I called you earlier, were you still ‘busy?’” he asked.
“Ah…yeah I was with Waylen,” I said. Knor snorted without humor. His attention went back to the tablet. My chest felt heavy just thinking about the possibility of hurting either of them over this. “Don’t look like that,” I said.
“How am I supposed to look? The first woman I’ve ever wanted for a real relationship with could be stolen away from me by my cousin,” he said.
“Knor…”
“Do you want us to compete? Because I will play dirty,” he said.
“You don’t have to compete,” I said. “That’s not what I want.”
“But you aren’t sure who you want more?” I shook my head and shrugged. “Even after all we’ve done before you even met Waylen?” he asked.
“Knor we knew each other only three days before I met him. Look, I don’t want to talk about Waylen with you if all it’s going to do is upset you,” I said.
“Do you want me to let you go? Does he make you happier?” Knor’s question shocked me. Mostly because his tone was sincere and his eyes were begging me to say no.
“No, I don’t want you to give up on me Knor,” I said. He let go of a deep breath and then nodded, his gaze resolute.
“Then I won’t,” he said. I leaned across the table and kissed him. Knor and I hadn’t been intimate at all since I started having sex with Waylen. It didn’t feel strange to kiss him, but I didn’t want to jump into bed with him right away. To be honest, I was a bit sore.
“Eat, I wish to show you something after,” he said.
“What is it?”
“I’m not telling you yet, eat,” he said. I forked up some veggies and eyed his tablet.
“What are you reading?”
“A recent report from one of the pilots Waylen sent in the emergency fleet to Earth,” he said.
“What the hell, why didn’t I know of it?” I said. Knor shared the tablet with me and I scrolled to the top.
“It was just released, only minutes ago. The Corsovians are mobilizing with massive fleets towards Earth. We’ll make it just in time,” Knor said.
“How do you know?” I asked.
“Because the emergency fleet reached your solar system two days before we left for Earth. The rest of the force left immediately after the agreement was signed a day ago. The Corsovian force won’t reach Earth’s solar system until a day after we do because they don’t have off planet outposts. Their entire interstellar military is based on Corsov,” Knor explained. Corsov was slightly farther from Earth than Bagar-1. One could only hope the Bagarian aid would get to our solar system in time to hel
p protect Earth.
“Don’t worry Aliya, it will work out,” he said.
“I just don’t want this all to have been for nothing. I don’t want to get back and there’s no Earth,” I said.
“If you read the timeline in the report you’ll see it illustrated. Earth will be protected,” he reassured me. I took a deep breath, then nodded.
“I hope so. There’s not much we can do now,” I said.
“We could not panic,” he said slowly.
“I’m not panicking,” I said, though my appetite was gone and all I could envision was the Earth exploding.
“Why are your eyes so wide then?” he asked. I shrugged. Knor stood up and took his tablet back, then pulled my hand so that I got up to follow him.
“Where are you taking me?” I mumbled.
“To show you something, like I mentioned before.” We went up to the top level of the ship, but we didn’t go to the piloting bay. The elevator door opened from the rear and let out into a circular room. It was completely glass and made me feel like I was a floating space creature, encased in light.
“This is cool,” I said in awe. The stars were whizzing by of course, but there was something about seeing it all around and not being strapped to a chair that made me feel like I was floating.
“I always find it a special treat when ships have a room like this built into them. It helps you to forget…your mind goes with the stars,” Knor said. I smiled at him, my grin wide.
“Thanks for showing me this,” I said.
“Come, it’s even better when you lay down,” he said. I took his hand and we stepped to the very center of the room and laid flat on our backs.
“Holy shit,” I said. Knor laughed.
“Indeed,” he said. We laid there quietly, side by side, for what felt like hours. I felt like a newborn baby seeing the sky for the first time.
“Is your back hurting?” he asked after a while. My back wasn’t hurting, until I started to think about it.
“Yeah…but I don’t really want to go,” I sighed.
