Specter: Circuit Series Book One

by Dailey, Lacey

I watched in confusion as the entire circuit board rose from their chairs. Cruz included.

  “What’s going on?”

“We got you a little something.” Wren grinned. “To show you how proud we all are of you. Something to make you feel safe.” He palmed my hip. “Close your eyes and hold out your hands.”

I obeyed because I knew without a doubt Wren was going to stay directly in front of me. As long as his hand was on my hip, I knew I was safe. “If somebody plops a spider or something equally gross and disgusting in my hands, I’m never bringing treats for you again.”

“Nothing like that, Sunshine.” Wren chuckled. “Just wait for it.”

I waited for a few beats until something was plopped into my hand. Before I could feel it and try to figure out what exactly it was, another was plopped into my hand. And then another. And another until I had two handfuls of long circular objects.

  “Ready to see, babe?”

  “Uhm, yes?”

Wren’s lips hit my ear. “Open your eyes.”

I opened my eyes and looked down. My stomach did a flip-flop. My heart turned over as I stared at a dozen cyan crayons cupped in my grasp.

“You are the biggest badass of them all, Sunshine.” Wren grinned, adding one more crayon to my collection. “Saving you was the catalyst to the best day of my life.”

A tear ran down my face but I didn’t move to wipe it away. I didn’t want to drop any of my badass crayons. “I love you.”

  “I love you too, Sage.”

There were a few long years my mind refused to consider a future. I’d always had trouble making choices regarding my life past a day or two. As time went on, choices got easier to make and questions got easier to answer. But choosing Wren Wilder was the easiest choice I’d ever made. Because Wren wasn’t just a regular choice. He was the one the universe made for me, and after spending so many years hating what it’d given me, all had been redeemed because I had Wren now. And life with him made all the darkness go dim.

  He was the sun.

  He was everything.
