The Laws of Love

Our families were worried, the doctors too. Everyone knows I’m pregnant now and they say the depression and the stress were unhealthy for the baby. But they don’t understand, how could they? This was our baby. My baby, his baby. We both needed him, and we can’t settle until we have him back. I talked to him constantly. I asked him questions, I told him I missed him, I loved him, I needed him. I begged him to open his eyes just so I could see the sunshine in those beautiful green globes but nothing. No response other than the monitor beeping away.
A hand on my back caused me to stir. Why won’t they leave me alone? I thought for sure they got the message that I wasn’t going anywhere. The hand gripped my shoulder and I sighed sitting up. The first thing I noticed was that the arm stretched forward was bare and led up to a hospital gown. My head snapped up fully and I looked up into Ayde’s beautiful face. He looked tired, so fucking tired but he was looking at me. My heart literally skipped a beat and I smiled.
“Ayde?” I asked. I had to make sure I wasn’t still dreaming.
“Sweetheart.” He croaked.
A sob burst free and I lost it. Crying and sniffling. He ran his hand through my hair in a calming motion but it wasn’t helping. I must’ve been making some type of commotion because the nurse came in. When she saw him awake she smiled and came over.
“It’s nice seeing you awake. Your wife hasn’t left your side for a minute.”
He smiled at her but didn’t correct her. I told them I was his wife so that they would let me stay. I did what I had to. “thirsty.” He said.
She nodded and came back with a pitcher and a cup with the doctor in tow. They checked him all out, said things were looking better than expected then left us to our own devices. I typed out a text that he was awake to everyone and I talked his head off. He just watched me smiling and nodding. His throat was sore and dry so he didn’t talk much but I was just happy he was back with me.
His parents came by and I let them have a moment alone. I took the time to shower and brush my hair so I looked presentable for him. That night, when visiting hours were over, everyone left but me and I climbed in bed next to him careful not to hurt him. There was one thing that has been plaguing me since that day and I needed to know.
“You called the baby a girl. It’s too early to know what it is.” I told him.
He smiled. “I think it’s going to be a girl.” He cleared his throat. “I want a baby girl just like you.”
I smiled. “I want a boy like you though.”
He shrugged, “Then we need to have more.”
I nodded and sighed into the pillow. “I think so too.”
The next day my parents came by around the same time as his. He asked me to go get him some
Jell-O so I went to get it. When I came back into the room him and his mother were whispering with their heads close together. I walked over and handed him the cup. Instead of opening it, he put it down to the side and grabbed my hand.
“Sit.” He said nodding to the chair.
I did as he asked and watched as he struggled to sit up. “what are you doing? You’re not supposed to get up!” I urged standing to get him to sit back down. “If you need something I’ll get it for you just don’t – “
He cut me off my putting his hand up. “I’m fine.” He said but the grit in his teeth didn’t reassure me. I closed my mouth because I knew the bastard was as stubborn as I was. It took a while but he eventually got to his feet and stood. He winced in pain and I had to grind my teeth together so I wouldn’t scold him.
He shuffled a few steps forward and I saw Shelly slap her hands in front of her eyes and squealed, “Ayde” at the same time Kevin said, “son”.
“Shut up.” He said to them and they did.
I looked at him and saw the sides of the gown he was wearing open. His ass must be on full display in the back and I wanted a glance. So when he got close I leaned to the side to get a look for myself. Yep, those perfectly firm cheeks were there for all to see. “Stop checking out my ass.” He told me but his tone was playful.
I blushed and smiled and gave him a small shrug. Hey he couldn’t blame me because he had a nice butt. He gripped the arms of my chair and slowly got down to his knees. “What are you doing?” I asked him confused.
His teeth were gritted and the pain was clear as hell on his face. “This hurts like a bitch so shut up and let me finish before I pass out.”
I rolled my eyes. “ok.”
“I love you Cassie. I will do anything for you. I want you to stay with me forever… and well I had a whole speech in my head but this pain is clouding my thoughts so can I tell you all the things I want when we get home. Until then, will you marry me?” he asked opening his palm where a ring was nestled in the middle.
I gasped and cried and nodded my head all at the same time. I held out a shaky hand so he could slide the ring onto my finger. He kissed my hand over the ring and I leaned down to kiss him on the lips. I kept it light and brief because I knew he needed to get back in the bed. His dad helped him back in while everyone gushed about his proposal.
When everyone left I spent the rest of the night going down my list of the million reasons of why I loved him. I knew from that moment on we would be ok, everything would be just perfect.
The End.
Epilogue
Drayden
“You did amazing in the courtroom today. I wanted to fuck you right by the judge’s gavel.”
Cassie rolled her eyes. “You are so dirty.”
I grabbed her hips and pulled her back into me so she could feel how hard I was for her. I grinded against her ass and she shuddered. “You love it.”
She sighed. “I love you.”
I leaned forward and kissed her on the forehead. My hands traveled up towards her breast and just as I was about to get a handful heavy footsteps broke the mood. I released her just as Danny rounded the corner. “Daddy! Mommy! Aunty Shelly got me a new Barbie playhouse.” My six-year-old daughter Danielle screamed as she came to us in the kitchen.
Cassie bent down a little to inspect it. It was getting hard for her due to her growing belly. I looked around and frowned. “Where’s your brother?” I asked.
She shrugged so I went to inspect. “Cody?” I called out.
“Daddy!” I heard a squeal. I followed the sound and found him in Danny’s room rolling around the floor next to star, our dog. I rolled my eyes, I should’ve known. Those two were thick as thieves.
“you want to let star into the backyard to play?” I asked.
He nodded and held out a hand for me to grasp. “Can I get on the swing?” he asked.
I nodded. “Sure thing bud.”
We passed by Cassie and Danny who followed us to the backyard. Cody climbed on the swing as Danny pushed him. I hugged Cassie from the back.
“Wow. I never thought it would be like this… did you?” she asked me.
I looked at my family and shook my head. “I never thought I’d have a wife, 2.5 kids and a dog in a house with a white picket fence. It was never anything I wanted.”
She turned to look at me. “no?” she asked looking a bit worried.
I shook my head. “No. but I wouldn’t trade it in for anything in the world.” I told her honestly. “You guys are my life. Even the scrappy mutt.”
She smiled and kissed me. “I love you Ray.”
That was a nickname she came up with for me and I loved it. “I love you too sweetheart.”
I kissed her again and we took a seat on the bench to watch our family play.
