“Don’t have a final count yet. We lost some independents who came in from the north, and a few Blades. Thanks to Dar and his demons…” Inferno choked on his words.

Aramis lowered his glass, giving him a concerned look. “You okay, man?”

Cappy placed a hand on Inferno’s shoulder and gave it a supportive squeeze. “We’ve lost Etain and Dar.”

  Excerpt from Flesh and Bone

I couldn’t save her. Nothing I did. Nothing I said. None of the gifts I gave her – ring, sword, cloak, my name, or even my blood – proved strong enough to overcome her most dangerous enemy. Me.

Midir was right when he said I didn’t deserve her. Her light illuminated the world and warmed the coldest of hearts. Her determination inspired us all. She made me a better man, showed me how to feel again. She saved my life.

And now, she is gone, murdered by my own hand.

I ask myself over and over, why? Why was she there? How was it possible for her to be right behind me - right…behind…me - and not feel her presence? Was I too caught up in the bloodlust? Did my need to kill the flame-headed demon cloud my senses?

  Everything has turned to dust.

Please forgive me, my sweet Etain. Mo chuisle.

All that’s left to do is prepare. Let the demon’s abuses to my flesh purify my soul; cleanse me of the evil that darkens my heart. I don’t deserve her or her love, but she loves me all the same. Once I am purged, her beautiful soul will find mine and take me home.

  About the Author

Nesa and her husband live in Derbyshire, England. When not working her day job in commercial insurance, she enjoys short walks on wonky pavements, driving on the straight and well proportioned roads of the area where the exchange of single digit hand signals has become the latest fad, and the long, hot English summers. At other times, it's reading, writing, watching TV, or creating and selling her glitter glassware at local markets. Nesa has three children and four grandchildren living in Texas and hopes to, one day, move back home, so they can all spoil her more rotten than she already is.
