The Portal to Sidhe: Book 1

“I didn’t even know Virgo had a brother,” I interrupted.
Ben put his hand over his mouth for a moment and said, “Your dad did shelter you quite a bit…didn’t he?” Then he proceeded to tell me everything that happened seventeen and a half years ago. He told me stories that I had only heard bits and pieces of.
My mother had originally died in a plane crash on my parent’s honeymoon, and the fairies brought her back to life. The fairies cast the spell on a whim and didn’t realize the consequence of bringing someone back from the dead.
The spell not only brought back my mother, but Virgo, Sophia, Maria, Virgo’s evil brother and my biological father. Virgo’s brother, Jacob took over the town, taking hostages and setting homes to fire, while my biological father, Taylor, kidnapped me. During this time, Ben had accidently stumbled across Pine Lake and turned my mother into a vampire on accident.
Ben took my mother deep into the forest to keep her safe and learn control, while chaos was running rampant. My father and several others went to rescue me from Taylor, but my father was captured during my rescue. My Father, Virgo and Mark were kept as slaves and tormented and drugged, until my mother and Loxes came to rescue them.
As Ben told me everything that happened, I was in shock by the story. My father had never said a word about being captured, let alone being a slave and drugged. Of course I heard bits and pieces of my kidnapping, and how my father came to rescue me, but the story had ended at my rescue. I didn’t know that it was my biological father who had taken me.
I was in disbelief that my father had kept this hidden for so long. For so many years, my father had only told me about a fire and a tragedy with the vile that caused my mother’s death. He would never go into detail about what happened. It was beginning to make complete sense why my father despised the vile and why he acted the way he did when my grandfather came to town. I also realized why my father waited eighteen years to tell me he wasn’t my biological father.
After Ben told me everything, I was a bit more nervous about bringing back my mother, but nothing he said changed my mind. I had been longing for my mother for so long, I wasn’t going to pass up a chance to finally meet her.
After speaking with Ben for quite some time about the past, I suddenly realized I was starving and had nothing to eat since the night before. Ben showed me a nifty device he found in his room while waiting for me. On the nightstand there was a small controller with three buttons, housekeeping, security and kitchen. The device seemed ancient compared to cell phones and computers, but it was better than nothing.
Ben pressed kitchen and within moments a voice came over the speaker. “May I help you?”
Ben spoke, “Could someone bring us blood and…” he looked at me.
“A salad.”
“Yes, of course. It will be about twenty minutes. Would you like a glass of blood or pitcher?”
“Just a glass is fine,” Ben replied.
“Have a nice evening,” the voice said.
The two of us sat around Ben’s room while waiting on the food. We talked about the strange decor and the luxury of the castle. We decided after dinner we would relax, and tomorrow we would check in on the others. We had not heard from them since dinner the evening before.
In less than fifteen minutes, there was a knock on the door. Ben answered the door and returned with a tray of food and blood. The two of us sat on his bed and devoured our meal. The circumstances of our situation were peculiar, but I quite enjoyed being pampered and waited on. I couldn't help but remember what the Queen had said, “Order cannot exist without chaos.”
Once Ben and I had something to eat, we began to kiss passionately. After several moments of kissing, he slowly undressed us both and kissed every inch of my body. Each kiss sent sparks traveling through my nerves. I wrapped my arms around him and held him tight as we made love passionately. Just as we finished, I felt the usual sparks exploding in my body. Unlike before, these sparks did not disintegrate inside of me. As they climbed through my fingers, I could feel the fire emerging through my fingertips. I quickly let go of Ben and pressed my fingers to the ceiling. Flames shot from my hands sending warmth and a burst of glowing light throughout the room. The flames quickly exploded just above our heads and burst like fireworks, creating a loud BOOM, then disintegrating above our heads.
I had been so focused on the magic I had created, I didn’t realize Ben had rolled away from me and was grasping his arm in pain. “Oh God!” he cried.
“Oh no! Are you hurt?”
“It’s just a burn I think.”
I looked at his arm and realized a piece of flesh was completely burned from his arm, but the fire had cauterized the flesh. He was grasping his arm, but trying not to show any pain.
“Drink my blood. Heal yourself!” I cried.
He bit my wrist and began slurping blood from me. Once the blood started to heal his arm, he became aroused once more. He pulled me on top of him and started to kiss me.
“Wait!” I cried, “I don’t want to hurt you again.”
“Just push your energy to the ceiling.”
“But I don’t understand it, I don’t know how to control it!”
“You can do it,” he said. His eyes glowed as he stared at me and said, “I just want you so much, I’ll take the risk.”
We continued kissing and he made love to me once more. When we finished, I felt power igniting in my fingers once more. I pushed my hands towards the ceiling and flames blew from my fingertips reaching all the way towards the ceiling. Ben jumped away from me as fire continued to burst from my fingers. I didn’t know what the hell was going on.
I took a few deep breaths and tried to clear my mind. Finally, the fire stopped and the flames died into my fingertips. I looked at the ceiling, which had been painted black by my fire.
“I don’t understand!” I cried. “I don’t know where this is coming from.”
“I don’t know a lot about superhumans, and I know even less about fairies. But I think superhumans start to find their powers around eighteen...nineteen...sometimes their early twenties.”
“Do you think I’m getting my power?”
“Of course! You are a fire fairy and a superhuman! Your powers will be strong. It’s just going to take time learning to control it. I wish I could help you, but I don’t know how.”
“Maybe I can ask my aunt tomorrow.”
“I think that’s a great idea.”
Then I remembered our conversation from before. “Ben, I know it’s dangerous, but I really hope they can bring my mom back.”
Ben smiled, “I hope so too. I would like to see my old friend.”
I stayed in Ben’s room the rest of the week. Ever since my meeting with the Queen, none of us had heard from her or Emerlee. Ben and I had scrumptious meals, several massages and a lot of sex. It felt like we were on an endless luxurious vacation. We didn’t know what else to do, so we just spend our time enjoying the luxuries of the castle.
Although we had been captured and brought to Sidhe against our will, it didn’t take long for the majestic power of the castle to suck us in. It was hard to not enjoy being pampered on and waited on around the clock. With one hit of a button, we could call the kitchen for anything our heart desired. If we didn’t feel like going to the poolroom, we could have a personal massage right in our guest room.
By the end of the week, I could see that Melody was quite melancholy, missing her children and husband. Some of the others seemed to miss Pine Lake, but there was nothing we could do. I missed my father, but I began to believe the Queen was right. My father may worry, but one day he would move on. The Queen was nothing but generous, and the servants spoiled us beyond belief. I had Ben and my aunt, and if I pleased the Queen, I would soon have my mother by my side as well.
At the end of the week, I decided it was time to talk to Roger. I wanted his side of the story. I knocked on the door and waited for him to respond. He smiled when he saw me and invited me inside.
/>
I sat down on his couch and without wasting time said, “You lied to us, didn’t you?”
Roger turned red and began to stutter, “Well...I...I...maybe a little...I,” he took a deep breath and I could see him tremble as he said, “Okay, I wasn’t completely lying…but I wasn’t completely telling the…the truth.”
“Tell me the truth!” I cried, “I have stood up for you when the town wanted you dead. I was the only one who didn’t believe you were bad. I never was able to know my mother...so I thought I could know you. Please don’t lie to me anymore.”
“Okay,” he said. Then he paused, “I’ll tell you everything, but Miranda, please don’t hate me.”
“I won’t hate you. I just want to know you. I just want to know the truth about my family and who I am!”
Roger began, “I always knew I was a dark fairy and the fairy of death. It is a great burden, especially being half vile. I wasn’t lying when I said my mother removed much of my evil.”
He paused as he looked around the room nervously. He stared deeply at an angelic painting on one of the walls as if he was deep in thought, and remembering these details brought him pain. He returned his gaze at me and then he said, “I’m sure you noticed...my mother is a bit crazy—even narcissistic, but she isn’t stupid. A fairy of death with vile blood could destroy everything. Not just your world, but also this world. I could rain the worst vile creatures that ever existed on earth. When I was little, as soon as my mother realized what I was, she not only removed much of my evil, but stole my superhuman powers. As I said, it was painful and took weeks.
“She did what was best for both worlds, but she turned me into a coward and a moron. I still have my fairy powers—that she cannot take away, but I have always been too coward to use them.” He took a few deep breaths and he continued, “My father was nothing more than one of my mother’s companions. He died before I was born, and I never knew him. I spent most of my childhood and teenage years roaming around the castle, and eventually grew bored and depressed.
“I begged my mother to let me visit earth. She refused over and over again, until finally she allowed me to go. She wanted me to bring her back human companions. She also wanted me find a mate, so she could have more family…to control of course. My mother isn’t lying, it is hard to open a portal, but her and her fairies opened one and sent me through. I was supposed to come back, but instead I found your grandmother Lauren and fell in love. I married Lauren and never returned home as I was supposed to. I was a horrible husband who drank and treated my wife terribly. When Lauren found out she was pregnant with twins, she ran off and I never found her…well until now.”
Once more, Roger gazed into the painting as if his story was brining him great pain. He took a few deep breaths and he continued, “I wasn’t lying about what happened next. I drank myself into a depression after Lauren left. My mom came to human earth to find me and when she did, I was on the verge of suicide. My mother brought me back to the castle and I have been here up until I came to your home.”
He paused. He took a deep breath and continued, “I was supposed to find your mother and aunt and bring them back. My mother wanted her grandchildren living in the castle. She wanted her family together, under her power. I was supposed to capture you and bring you back, but when I met you…” he started choking up, “You’re so beautiful. I turned into a coward. I couldn’t do it. I had no idea I had a grandchild. I could see how much your dad loves you. I couldn’t take you away from him. I’m a coward, I failed my mother.”
“That doesn’t make you a coward,” I cried, “It makes you good.”
“But I’m not good!” he cried. “I’m awful, worthless, cowardly.”
“Why would you think that?” I asked.
“It’s what my mother said when she took away my power. She was so angry at my darkness. And look what I did to Lauren. Look at the way I treated her and then drank my sorrows away. Allison won’t even look at me…my own daughter.”
“I don’t think you’re a coward. You are a powerful fairy with burdensome magic. If your mother removed most of your evil, there was no reason for her to take away your powers as well.”
I felt pity for Roger. Instead of just removing his vile, she took away all of his superhuman powers. She made him feel like he was a failure and a coward, because he had been born with very strong dark powers. The Queen could have used her powers and experience as a fairy, to help him become something wonderful. Roger could have used his powers for good.
It was all starting to make sense. My great-grandmother wanted control. She was the fairy of chaos, but used her chaos to gain control. She used food, sex, luxury, charm and magic to lure in companions and her family. She gave everyone the perfect life, but in return demanded loyalty. Anyone who tried to revolt, she would throw in the dungeon. She had a band of loyal followers who could not see past her narcissism and selfishness; they would do anything for her.
I wondered if the Queen even knew what she was doing. In her mind, she felt the need to create chaos, but deep inside she longed for control. She used her magic and royalty to control everyone. I knew that she had the power to send me home, at the least send my father a message telling him I was safe, but she refused to do that. She would never take the risk of losing her family—her control.
Everything about the castle was beginning to make sense. Everyone seemed so happy and grateful, yet they were all slaves. They were all slaves to the Queen, and the moment they turned their back, they would be punished. When I had first arrived, I was stunned by the splendor of the castle, but I feared doing anything to offend the Queen. At first glance, it didn’t seem like we were prisoners, but in truth, prisoners is exactly what we were.
Despite everything, the Queen and Roger were my only hope at getting back my mother. After what Ben had told me about magical consequence, Roger and the Queen were the only ones who could bring my mother back safely. Although the Queen was a nasty, selfish woman, I wanted my mother more than anything.
“Grandfather...I need to ask you something?”
“Anything?”
“Do you think you could bring my mother back?”
“I don’t think...err...I just don’t think I can.” He said looking ashamed.
“I will help you and so will my aunt. It was the Queen’s suggestion. She wants you to.”
He wiped a tear from his eye, as they grew wide. Roger looked surprised that his mother made the suggestion. “Do you think we can?”
“I know we can!” I cried.
Chapter 13
After speaking with my grandfather, I told Ben the news right away. I told Ben everything, including what I suspected about the Queen.
All he said was, “Interesting,” as he nodded his head. He reminded me to do copious amounts of research before even beginning the magic.
I decided I needed to speak with my aunt, since I had already volunteered her help. I explained to my aunt everything I had explained to Ben. She listened carefully. When I was through speaking, she said, “I don’t know if this is a good idea.”
“I want to meet my mother so bad,” I cried. The Queen already gave us her blessing, and we have several other fairies at our dispense for help. I bet the Queen has more potions and dusts than we could ever dream of.” I said.
The Queen had given us her blessing, but I knew she had a motive in mind. In my week here, I realized the Queen did not do anything out of kindness, but only in self-interest. What the Queen didn’t know was I was on to her. She had her motives, but I had mine.
“I’ll help,” my aunt said, “But we need to look at every angle. We can’t bring back any vile, not here, nor on earth. Your mother is going to kill me!” she laughed as she finally accepted the idea.
My aunt and I went back to Roger’s room. I grabbed Ben on the way. I considered asking Laura, Melody and Sean for help, but I decided to keep it between us four for now.
“What do we do first?” my aunt asked.
“I th
ink first, we need to talk to the fairies and research this type of magic. We need to find any variable that could be harmful and we need to find all the side effects of bringing someone back from the dead.” Ben said.
Roger and I nodded our heads.
“Why don’t we reach out to Emerlee first?” I suggested.
“I think that is a good idea,” Ben said.
“Roger, do you know any magic? Can you do anything?” I asked.
“Nothing more than a few sparks from my fingers. Why don’t I go get Emerlee and see what she says? I’ve known her for quite some time. She’s the most powerful fairy I know, besides my mother.”
“Sounds like a plan!” I cried.
Roger left to fetch Emerlee and returned quickly. He returned with Emerlee and another fairy that introduced herself as Sadie. Sadie was another tiny fairy with red hair and green eyes. She had a very pleasant smile and kind voice. I liked her immediately.
Emerlee spoke first, “I hear you want to bring someone back from the dead.”
“My mother,” I replied.
“A wonderful friend!” Ben cried as he smiled. I could tell he was looking forward to seeing my mom again.
“It always helps to have a fairy of death on hand,” Emerlee laughed, “And the most powerful fairy there is nearby. So what do you need?”
“Well, the three of us are fairies,” I said pointing to Roger and my aunt, “But none of us can do magic. We also need to find the consequences of bringing someone back from the dead.”
“Well, not knowing how to do magic is certainly a problem. I think I can help.” Emerlee looked at Ben, “What about you?”
“I’m a vampire, but I’m here for support.” Ben replied.
“Let’s get started. I think it be best if we work one-on-one. Magic takes strong emotion and a quiet mind. Ben if you don’t mind, can you fetch Elona. She is in room 506.” She looked at Roger, “I’ll work with you. Sadie you work with Miranda. When Elona arrives, I’ll have her help you, Allison.”
