Gloom's Whisper

  “What’s that?”

  Almost before he could finish the question, I threw my arms around his neck. Pushing myself up onto my tip toes, I pulled him to me. The second our lips touched, an electric tension filled the air around us. My heart raced as I ran my fingers through his thick auburn hair.

  I don’t know how long we stood there, savoring the moment. It could have been an hour; it could have been mere seconds. It didn’t matter. Locked in each other’s arms, time stood still.

  Nothing else existed in that moment. Not the war, not the Fae, not Shadowland, or Oregon. It was just us. There was nothing that could keep us apart, and that feeling was as freeing as it was exciting.

  No matter how much we wanted to pretend like there was nothing that could spoil that moment, reality set in. But before we parted, I wanted to share what was in my heart.

  “I need you to know…I love you, Logan.”

  “I know you do.” He put his arm around me and walked toward the window. “That’s the reason I’m able to do this. What we have is real.”

  We climbed onto Kaida’s back. Wrapping my arms around him, I was filled with his presence. When his dragon took off, the wind rushed past us, and Crystal City shimmered brightly below. Logan was with me. It didn’t matter how the Fae world attacked us. Together, we could conquer anything.

  The darkness looming ahead couldn’t shake my confidence. I was overcome with faith that our journey would end in success. The light of our love would illuminate every dark corner, and free those held prisoner in the Fae realm.
