Ignite: The Awakening

Stepping inside, the building still creaked, as it made final adjustments to the structure. As the sound settled, they all stood in the doorway, speechless. They had stepped into a huge living room, intricately woven willow sofas sat at the centre, along with the original homes’ tatty aubergine sofa. The ample seating sat around a large, grass rug. To their left was a wide opening, leading through to a beautiful oak kitchen and dining area, the appliances from the old house included, fuelled by energy from the earth. On the other side of the living room back wall, sat the hallway with a large front door, leading out onto a new porch. Also, in the hall was a large staircase, leading up to six generously sized bedrooms. They made their way up the stairs and began checking out the rooms. Celeste chose a room to the front of the house, with its own bathroom and a delightful bay window. Amber decided to take the room on the opposite side of the hall, facing out onto the clearing, delighted at the size of her very own room. Theo swung open another door, running in and diving onto the bed within,

‘I bag this room!’ he hollered, as he rolled around giggling with delight. Lexi imagined it was probably the happiest he’d ever felt. She took Rowan's hand,

‘So do we pick a room each, or share one’ she laughed. He pulled her into a room, and in a seemingly serious manner looked around, surveying it.

‘I recon if we take one each, we get twice the privacy’ he winked, pulling her close. ‘In fact, I’d like to point out, this room and the next, share a bathroom. They’re basically one big bedroom with a bathroom down the middle. It’s as if nature planned it all out for us.’ A wicked smile grew across his face.

‘You mean we get to share a lot more showers?’ She queried, raising an eyebrow.

‘Exactly!’ He leaned in, kissing her passionately.

As the evening drew in and the gathering dissipated from the clearing, Lexi sat alone on the new porch, soaking up the last of the sunlight. As it dipped below the horizon, out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a mass of what appeared to be fireflies darting around, close to the border between the two worlds. Lexi hopped down from the porch and approached. As she drew closer, she could see her Fathers' form begin to take shape. Sitting herself down on the grass, she smiled warmly at her Dad. She hadn’t lied to her Mum as such, she truly did have a newfound bond with him, just not in a way her Mum could understand. They sat until the early hours, her on one side, her Dad on the other, chatting about all that had happened. He explained how Garrick had found peace in death, relaying a message for Lexi, stating her Uncle would be eternally grateful to her for freeing him from his demons.

Lexi had always felt like she never fitted in anywhere, but in that moment, reflecting back on recent events, she realised, she’d just never found the right place, until now.
