The lightning filled every fibre of my being and the air around me. I tasted the electricity and knew there would never be another high like that. The adrenaline flooded my system and made me feel on top of the world. For a brief moment, I considered opening my eyes and pulling the lightning deeper into myself to feel just how far that high would go. It was pure bliss and exhilaration rolling through me. I understood how witches gave in and allowed themselves to be consumed.
Opening my eyes, I looked at Gideon with the blood dripping down his hands and the ferocious expression on his face. He was fighting with everything he had because he had faith in me, that we would save the world.
Taking a deep breath in, I swallowed hard and pushed the lightning out in one great bolt of blindingly bright white light. I felt the electricity race through every cultist in the room. I felt their hearts stop dead as they were overloaded, and I dropped to my knees as I felt it all ground and dissipate.
Greyson appeared next to Gideon, who was reaching down to pull me into his arms.
“It’s over. The artifacts are destroyed, and Sky’s lightning helped me close the portal,” Greyson said.
I allowed myself to smile and relax into Gideon’s arms. My legs were too weak to support me, but we’d done it.

Megan had been killed by the cult not long before we arrived. The rest of the cult was hunted down by the Morrigan witches and council enforcers. Rosalyn had said that they were interrogated using the very finest methods, meaning that they suffered a great deal of pain.
The council enforcers had rocked up right as we were stumbling out of the bar to the cars. Gideon had pulled rank and demanded that they ring Cole Loxwood, Rosalyn’s life-bond. I’d promptly collapsed in the car and drank my weight in healing potions.
To my surprise, Greyson had acted like a mother hen and ensured everyone ate enough healing herbs and drank their required healing potions. Ella had put up a good fight, but Greyson gently held her down and insisted that he was better able to help everyone.
Once we were safely back at the coven home with a large pizza each, I allowed myself to really relax. The exhaustion faded into a deep happiness and contentment. I couldn’t help but laugh as I watched Ella try and steal some of poor Greyson’s bacon from his pizza. The Nyx witch pretended that he couldn’t see her slowly extending her hand and allowed her to take some. His warm smile was contagious.
I leaned against Gideon and revelled in the feeling of family and home. It was something I’d craved for a long time, and thanks to the gods interfering in my love life, I finally had it.
