The entire next day they lounged around the apartment lying in each other’s arms being lazy. Both of them were emotionally and physically drained. Los was going to be there for Lucky no matter how long it took her to come out of the funk she was in. Lucky drifted in and out of sleep throughout the day only getting up to use the bathroom. She wouldn’t even eat but Los had no appetite either. They didn’t speak, all they did was stare in each other’s eyes as they lie tangled in each other’s arms falling victim to the Sandman at any given time. That’s all the communication they needed to get each other and know the love they shared could get them through anything.
The next morning Carlos woke to a pleasant surprise breakfast; Lucky slipped out of his arms that morning to cook a big breakfast. She was back to her normal up beat self. “Good morning how was your sleep Pa?” Lucky asked as she leaned in to place a kiss on his lips. Los stretched and yawned at the same time. “It was a’ight. How was yours?” “I slept good, really good. I even had enough energy to get up and make us breakfast.” Los sat up as Lucky passed him a plate of food fit for a king. He dug right in; he hadn’t realized how hungry he was until he saw that plate. Los fed Lucky a couple forkfuls of food before he stopped. “Ayo why you eating all my food? Didn’t you eat already?” Lucky shook her head yes with a mouthful of eggs. “You greedy as hell,” Los teased. Lucky laughed with her mouth closed. Carlos paused and stared at her intently, suddenly the smile was wiped from her face. Lucky didn’t utter a word she only gave a subtle shake of her head indicating she didn’t want to rehash the conversation they had about her molestation. Which was more than okay with Los, he wanted to be there for his baby if she ever needed someone to talk to but he honestly didn’t think he could take hearing much more right now.
The wind blew hard sending the a cool breeze to run across Los’ bare chest stealing his attention. Earlier that morning Lucky opened the balcony doors to allow some sunlight and much needed fresh air in. A ray of sunlight bounced off Lucky’s ring creating a prism on the wall. She looked down at her ring finger and smiled from ear to ear. Los caught the look and kissed Lucky on her cheek as she admired her ring. “I still can’t believe this,” she said just above a whisper. “Believe that shit. You about to be Mrs. Johnson,” Los said grabbing her up by her waist pulling her on top of him. Lucky giggled as she mounted him then leaned down and kissed him passionately. “I knew you were special from jump, I always knew that one day I would put a ring on ya finger. I just…didn’t wanna love you at first.” A slight smile threatened to take over Lucky’s face, “You didn’t wanna love me? Let me ask you something Playboy how that work out for you?” Los blinked as if he were hit by her snide comeback then he started laughing, “You still gotta fresh ass mouth ma, I’ma fix that shit for good,” Los threatened playfully smacking Lucky’s ass. “What you gon do?” Lucky challenged “I’ma put something big in it.” Lucky chuckled, “Well I’ma big girl Daddy I ain’t never scured,” Lucky retorted trying her best hand at sounding country. Los burst out laughing as Lucky bent down to kiss his smiling lips. The kiss became intense when Lucky started grinding on top of his growing morning wood. “Ummm,” Carlos moaned when Lucky’s lips trailed to his neck, she definitely knew his spots. Lucky reached down and began stroking his dick through his boxers. “What you gon do wit all that,” Los mumbled sexily with his lips pressed against hers between sensual peck kisses. This dude head is so damn big, conceited ass. Lucky thought to herself “I can show you better than I can tell you,” Lucky purred then bit his bottom lip. She felt his dick jump in response. “Word? Go head do you, just make sure you do it sloppy,” Los said throwing his hands up like a nigga was trying to stick him up. Lucky cracked up laughing and commenced to making good on her promise of pleasure when suddenly Los’ cell rang. Los eyes popped wide as he reached to pick it up immediately. Lucky huffed looking at him as if he’d lost his mind for picking up the phone. He didn’t have to look at the screen he already knew who it was from the ringtone.
“Abuela,” he said while lying on his back with the phone pressed to his ear. Lucky didn’t know what was being said, what she did know was that Los was getting his ass handed to him verbally. She could hear the echo through the phone as the other person spoke loud and fast. The expression on Carlos face almost made her laugh. He looked like a little boy who got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. He only got in a couple of words throughout the tongue lashing. “I’m sorry, I know, I was on my way.”
“Ooooohhh!” Lucky sang once Los hung up as if someone was in trouble. Los chuckled and wiped his hand over his face. “That old lady is hot with me right now. Baby girl pack our bags while I book us a flight,” Los said before slapping Lucky on her ass hard. “Ouch!” Lucky shrieked swinging and hitting him on the shoulder as he playfully pushed her off of him. “A flight? Baby I thought your grandmother lived here in Colombia?” “She does, she lives in Cartagena though. I mean we ain’t gotta catch a flight. We can drive if you wanna take the scenic route. It’s gonna take like 8 to 10 hours from here.” “8 to 10 hours driving?” Lucky asked shocked. “Yup, and it’s a lot of cliffs and twists and turns.” “Umm no thank you, I’ll pack our bags.” “All we need is a lil carry-on; pack the duffle bag and my book bag nothing too big, make sure you put a lot of swim wear in there too, especially some of them bikini’s,” Los said with a wink. Lucky smiled and shook her head. “Yes Massa is there anything else I can get you?” Lucky asked sarcastically causing Los to burst out laughing. “Kunta keep that shit up you just adding time to ya punishment.”
After packing Lucky decided to take a nap before their flight, she wanted to be well rested before meeting his family. Los climbed in bed and started rubbing all over her body. Lucky started to tell him she needed a nap but then she thought about it, they would be staying under his grandmother’s roof and there was no telling when she was going to be able to get another hot shot. Los was on top of her kissing on her neck when he felt Lucky pushing his head down south. He stopped, right at her stomach and gave her the side eye before rolling over on his back. Lucky looked at him like what’s the problem?
“Hell nah you ain’t finna do me like you did them lil thirsty niggaz in school. I’ma Boss and I play by Boss nigga rules, no sucky, sucky no fucky, fucky.” Lucky burst out into laughter at Los bringing up her bad girl deeds. Los smiled at her trying to hold back his own laughter. “Oh for real it’s like that? Well being that I’ma Boss bitch my motto is no licky, licky no sticky, sticky.” “Damn I guess we gotta problem then,” Los concluded. “We sure do,” Lucky concurred. Suddenly her smile brightened and her eyes seemed to get even chinkier as she rose up and crawled closer to Carlos. “I got a solution,” she whispered in his ear before mounting him in the 69 position. They both pleasured each other until Los couldn’t take anymore; he flipped Lucky on her back and piped her down like he just got home from doing a 10 year bid.
Los looked over at Lucky and smirked as they road in a cab to his grandmother’s house from the airport. She was funny, everything about her had to be so damn girly and sparkly, pink or purple is how she rocked. She removed her purple Beats by Dre earbuds and looked over at Los. “Baby is there a beach around here?” “Yeah it’s water surrounding a big portion of the city.” “I can smell it.” Lucky said smelling that natural salt water in the air. “I’ll bring you,” Los offered putting a smile on Lucky’s face. This place was so pretty it was a world away from Bogota which was more city metropolitan like, this place had a tropical look and vacation feel. For some reason Lucky couldn’t explain she wasn’t at all nervous about meeting his family.
When they pulled onto the street his grandmother lived on some little kids playing soccer in the street noticed them first and gave chase until the cab stopped. They looked utterly happy and kept asking Los to come and play football (soccer). Los got out of the car greeting some of them with hugs, daps and pats on the heads promising to come and play after he got settled in. Lucky gave him the side eye. She had never
in all of knowing him seen him play soccer. I have to see this. His grandmother’s house was quaint showing that old world charm, it was located on a cul-de-sac and seemed to be the largest on the street.
Los was just about to knock on the door when it swung open and a little old feisty lady came rushing out throwing her arms around his neck. He had to literally bend down for her she was so short. She was saying something Lucky didn’t quite understand because her words were muffled as she rained kisses on Los’ cheek. Lucky looked past them into the open door where it looked like he had a whole host of family waiting in the wings. She smiled at them nervously feeling a tad bit overwhelmed by the amount of people in the house. Lucky took GG in noticing she was a lot older looking than what Lucky had expected her to be and really fair skinned. Lucky had already known for some time now that when Carlos said grandmother the woman he was referring to was actually his great grandmother, hence why the family affectionately called her GG. GG was the only grandmother he’d ever known since his father’s mother had passed away long before he was even born.
His grandmother finally let him free of the hold she had him in then held his face in her aged, fragile, hands whispering something to him before letting him go. She looked past him finally setting her eyes on Lucky. Without saying a word she embraced Lucky giving her a warm hug and kiss on the cheek “Que linda!” GG said looking into Lucky’s face. “Gracias,” Lucky replied with a smile. Los’ grandmother looked at him and smiled with approval. His grandmother stepped aside and ushered them in with a big smile on her face.
Lucky met so much of his extended family she couldn’t keep up with everyone’s names. He had a lot of second and third cousins, in addition to damn near every neighbor on the street over at the house as well. His grandmother had organized a huge dinner party that felt more like a potluck because everyone that came in seemed to bring along a dish. To Lucky his family came off as being very warm, down to earth, and embraced her with open arms. She couldn’t say she got one side eye from his family or attitude from any of his female cousins.
Los looked at Lucky who was seated across from him between his grandmother and one of his cousins. He watched as she went in on a plate of food. Lucky was tearing into a plate of rice and beans his grandmother had made. To Lucky it was off the hook; some of the best Spanish rice and beans she’d ever had. She loved everything about it from the little olives that his grandmother put in it to the beans she used. Lucky looked up and Carlos had to do everything in his power not to burst out laughing. She looked too cute with her mouth full of food and her cheeks puffed out like a chipmunk. As a matter of fact lately every time he looked at Lucky she seemed to be stuffing her face. After that one time at the restaurant when she questioned what all the red stuff was on her food he never heard her question anything else she just ate. Which wasn’t a problem; all that rice and beans was starting to stick and Lucky was putting weight back on. Yeah eat up, Luck eat up Los thought to himself as he gave her a wink.
Lucky was dead tired as she laid in the room her and Los would be staying in. It was definitely on the small side of what they were used to with their house back in Scottsdale and even his apartment in Bogota, but it was comfortable and felt warm. The house was also kind of on the crowded side. She found out that a few of his cousins and their kids stayed with his grandmother as well. Which wasn’t a problem, everyone seemed to be okay with the living arrangement and Lucky liked it because she got that big family feel she always wanted growing up. His grandmother’s house was your typical Hispanic house. Lucky tried not to be stereotypical however the beaded curtains separating the doorways, Jesus statues, along with candles you could buy from any local bodega that had religious images on them was something you often saw in a lot of Hispanic’s houses, especially the old school ones like his grandmother.
Lucky tossed and turned feeling uncomfortable. Carlos took off somewhere with his male cousins probably doing the same thing he did with his cousin’s back home. Just when Lucky was drifting off to sleep Los came into the room smelling like he just had a personal meeting with the chief himself. She shook her head; he hadn’t smoked since they’d been in Colombia so she guessed he had to get his fix. “Lucky you up?” Los whispered. “Yeah Pa I’m having trouble falling to sleep,” Lucky confessed. Carlos stripped down to his boxers and t-shirt and lay with Lucky pulling her into his arms until they both fell off into a peaceful sleep. Hours later Lucky awoke in the wee hours of the morning thirsty as hell. Being that she didn’t feel completely comfortable with his family to go and get her own drink from the fridge she went to wake Los to get her something only to discover he wasn’t in the bed beside her. “Now where the hell did he go?” Lucky spat.
Her initial thought was that he waited until she drifted off to sleep to sneak back out with his cousin’s. I’ma deal with his ass later but right now I need to get me something to drink. Her case of dry mouth overrode any unfamiliarity she had with his family. She didn’t care who saw her getting something to drink at this point she was just that thirsty. Stepping out into the hallway the house was pitch black and eerily quiet. Damn what time is it? Everybody sleeping? Lucky fumbled feeling along the wall as she walked towards the kitchen trying to find a light switch. A flicker of light in the darkness caught her eye. Lucky stood completely still as she peered through the beaded curtains that connected the kitchen to the living room. There were flickers of light coming from candles, lots of candles. Her heart began to beat rapidly as tiny hairs stood up on the back of her neck. The voice in her head told her to run back into her room but her brain told her to investigate. Curiosity got the best of her as she walked to the curtains and pulled them back discreetly to get a better view.
What she saw scared the shit out of her. Los’ grandmother had a chicken hanging upside down in one hand and Los’ diamond rosary chain in her other. The chicken’s throat was cut and blood dripped profusely as she chanted something shaking her hand sending blood splattering all over. The chant sent goose bumps up Lucky’s spine although she couldn’t understand the words. There was a second voice in the darkness but Lucky couldn’t see who was chanting until she looked really closely and noticed there was a man almost black as night in the room. He looked like some voodoo priest for sure; well what she knew them to look like from movies. He was holding what looked to be a long beaded rope in one hand while blowing smoke from some type of instrument that looked like an elephant tusk of some sort. Lucky was paralyzed with fear. She wanted to run somehow her brain and body wouldn’t cooperate. The man grabbed a wooden bowl from the living room coffee table and proceeded to dip his fingers in the bowl then flick what appeared to be water or a white liquid on something on the floor. The stranger kept his eyes towards the floor in front of him as he chanted. Lucky’s eyes followed the direction the man was looking in and her eyes landed on Los who was lying on the floor on his back. Carlos looked to be more unconscious than sleep. Panic mode kicked in and Lucky screamed. “Carlos!” All she could think of was how Carlos was being hurt and she had to save him. Lucky tried to rush towards him, she was going to get her baby and get the fuck up out of there then everything started to spin as she felt a dizzy spell come over her. Then it was lights out; everything faded to black.
Lucky awoke to a splitting headache; the back of her neck and head was bangin. She turned her head and looked at Los lying beside her sleeping peacefully with his arm draped over her protectively. Lucky initially thought she had a weird nightmare until she looked down at Los’ arm and noticed on his wrist along with his Rolex was a beaded bracelet. She recognized those beads instantly and she knew then it wasn’t a dream after all.
“Baby get up! Get up!” Lucky shook Los, getting a little unnerved that it was taking him so long to wake up, which was never the case. Los stirred awake groggy looking confused about Lucky’s frantic state. “Luck, damn a nigga tryin to slee…” “Carlos get up! We gotta get outta here your grandmother put voodoo on you! I saw her last night with this man and…and t
hey were putting chicken blood on you. And some other shit! I don’t know, I don’t know all I know is we gotta go!” Lucky stammered frantically jumping out of bed rushing over to the dresser to put clothes on. “Carlos we gotta go. I know what I saw, please believe me,” Lucky said now crying out of fright while she slipped her shirt over her head.
Carlos jumped out of bed like that shit was on fire rushing over grabbing her up in his arms. “Luck calm down,” Los said firmly. He held onto her tightly trying to comfort her, she was truly frightened; her entire body was trembling. Lucky tried to fight out of his grasp. “Luck calm down. You don’t know what you saw. Let me explain.” “Explain what?! Carlos I know what I saw!” Lucky said hysterically. She didn’t understand why Carlos wasn’t showing urgency. Maybe he thinks I’m going crazy. “Lucky calm down baby, look at me,” he demanded cupping her face in his hands and backing her up into the dresser behind her. She wouldn’t look at him her eyes were wondering all around frightened as if she were waiting for something to jump out at her. She looked up into his eyes once she was pinned against the dresser in back of her with nowhere else to go. “My grandmother wasn’t putting voodoo on me. She would never do that to me or anyone else, a’ight. She was blessing me, you understand me? I should’ve told you before. I just didn’t think you would understand.” Los was going to try and explain this in minimal terms without getting too into it. “My grandmother is like a healer. You know she has like a six sense about her. People come to her when their having hard times and sometimes people attribute their misfortune to someone putting hex’s or curses whatever you want to call it on them. GG she’ll pray on someone or tell them what to do to free themselves of a bad aura. Tell them to bath with certain soap; light certain candles, she prays over holy water for you to wash the walls in your house with, tell you to recite certain prayers that type of stuff.” “A bruja?” Lucky asked. Los raised an eyebrow obviously offended that Lucky called his grandmother a witch. “No. Shaman,” he said correcting her, giving Lucky a better name to describe his grandmother other than the negative connotation of calling her a witch. Lucky took a deep breath this was all a little too much for her. “Lucky trust me you have nothing to be afraid of my grandmother wouldn’t hurt anyone, you know that.” Los placed a kiss on her forehead. Lucky had finally calmed down. He could tell she was still nervous but she was just going to have to suck it up and act mature about it.
