Wolf Unleashed (Hybrid Prophecies Book 1)
Page 16
You are an Elemental.
I am a wolf and witch hybrid. Not an Elemental.
You wield the elements as easily as he does. You are an Elemental by bond. A powerful one for you are bonded to the King of Elementals, who wields the four elements.
Perhaps.
Stop fussing. Relax. It is the day you bond your soul with your mate’s. It should be a happy day.
Zara answered with a huff. There was a knock on her door. She yipped at the door, hoping the person would hear her. The door opened and in stepped her family. The people she loved most. Raven, Sophia, Atara, and Lucus. “Hello, little one!” Sophia exclaimed and stopped when she noticed Zara was in her wolf form. “What’s with the sour, furry face? It’s your bonding day!” Raven knelt in front of her. Zara lifted her head and placed it on her aunt’s lap. She rubbed her head. “Shift back, Zara. Tell us what’s wrong.” She shifted and sat on the floor with her legs crossed underneath her. Atara sat next to her and Zara laid her head on her shoulder. Atara used a tone of voice that seemed to snap Zara out of it when she said, “Zara, tell us what’s wrong.” Everyone looked at Atara stunned.
“What if he does not show up?” Zara said.
“Why would you think that Tobias would not show up?” Raven asked.
“Some of his people do not like our pairing. They sent him threats.”
Atara and Sophia growled. Raven held up a hand for them to stop. “The King has received death threats for bonding to his soul mate? That is unheard of.”
“Majority of his people are thrilled. They have a queen of three magicks to protect their realm. That the king found his soulmate and is happier. His people love him and want to see him happy. Those who oppose… one of them is on Tobias’s council.”
Zara felt Sophia and Lucus’s power mix and slowly began to relax. “Not fair!” Sophia smiled at her. “Honey, I do not think Tobias would reject your bond over a few people not liking the fact that you are a hybrid. We just saw him; he was setting up the ceremony.” Zara’s head snapped to attention and looked at Sophia. “You did?” Everyone giggled at her. “Leave me alone. I am about to bond my soul to a king. I think I can be a little stressed out.” Atara and Raven shook their heads. Atara stood up and looked down at Zara. “I did not come here to watch my sister freak out on the floor. I came here to watch her bond her soul with her soulmate’s. Get up.” Atara used the voice again. Zara growled this time and got off the floor, her power radiating off her. “Do not use an Alpha Command on me!” Atara smiled. She somehow knew that would give her sister’s spark back. “Welcome back, Alpha. Now let us get you dressed for your big day!” Zara narrowed her eyes at her sister, stuck her tongue out at her, then walked to the closet.
Sophia helped her with her hair. Zara was not into putting her hair into fancy styles. She did not care that it was the most important ceremony outside of her being crowned. She still did not want her hair to be too fancy. Sophia was ready for that argument, so she already had an idea in mind. She braided a small part of her hair on top of her head and laid down at the back. The rest of her hair was slightly curled. Raven fashioned a small band to look like a tiara. It was decorated in rubies, emeralds, sapphires, topaz, and amethysts. Atara helped her step in her dress. When everyone stepped back and looked at Zara, they all gasped. “What? Do I look stupid?” The women shook their heads no. Lucus stepped forward and kissed her forehead. “You look beautiful, sweetie. The hair and headband completed your look. If he does not at least tear up when he sees you, I will junk punch him.” Zara laughed. “Okay. Time for me to do this.”
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
Xander was waiting for her at the bottom of the stairs. He was wearing a black traditional Elemental robe with a gray warrior cloth underneath that Tobias normally wore. She did not know how, but it pulled out his moss green eyes and made him look more striking. Not to mention more of a warrior Alpha. By time she got to the final step, Xander had tears in his eyes. “You look beautiful., little one. I am honored to see you through this journey.” He kissed her on the cheek and held out his arm for her. Zara hooked hers with his and he led her toward the courtyard. Before they reached the entrance to the ceremony, Xander stopped her.
“I want you to know that I am proud of you and the woman you have become. The day you showed up on our doorstep, I feared that I would not do a good job at raising you. I would be too hard on you and you would rebel. Instead, you were stubborn and ended up showing me that not only could you do it, you could do it better than me. Except maybe the hunting exercise.” Zara chuckled. “You were born for greatness, little one. This is the first step among many that you will take throughout your journey. With each step, I see you conquering all the evil that this world will throw at you. You will be the queen our people deserve just because you will do everything in your power not to fail them.” Zara looked up at her adoptive father. “You really think so, Xander?” He nodded. “With every fiber of my being.” He bent down and kissed her on the forehead. “Now, let me walk you down this aisle and give you away to your soulmate.”
They faced the entryway to the courtyard and the double doors opened outward for them. Zara’s breath caught in her throat. There was an aisle for them to walk down. On each side were tree stumps for the guests to attend. There were four archways, one for each element, along the way. The first one was a small funnel of air, the second was lit up in flames for fire, the third one was a water stream, and the last one was vines with flowers covering them. At the end, Tobias stood in front of a pond that had colorful fish swimming inside of it. Everyone turned to face her. There were no faces that she did not recognize. Tobias ensured her that it would just be her close friends and family. His own parents were gone, so he only had Torbin. They wanted a small and intimate ceremony, so this was perfect.
She noticed as she got closer, Tobias did have tears in his eyes. Oh, thank Goddess, I really did not want Lucus junk punching my soulmate. Tobias was in traditional white and his skin looked tan against it. She felt her skin tingle as she neared him. Something that Sophia mentioned to her that might happen as their bond grew. Her heart started racing, but in a good way.
They reached Tobias and he bowed to Xander. Xander bowed back and took Zara’s hand. Xander looked at her with pride and love, like a father would on their daughter’s ceremonial day. He kissed the back of her hand then placed it in Tobias’. “You take care of my girl.” It sounded like a warning. Instead of getting annoyed, Tobias bowed again, something she knew was out of respect since he was a King and did not have to. “To my final breath.” Xander then sat next to Sophia in the first row.
Zara did not notice that there was a small table with a chalice that was filled with wine. There were also candles, one for each element. Tobias looked at her and gave her a slight nod. They were both to say the words throughout the ceremony, light the candles with their own power and call the elements to bless their union.
I call air to bless this union. Blow away all fear as we enter this union.
I call fire to bless this union. Keep our passion alive with ongoing flames.
I call water to bless this union. Ensure our love will always be pure.
I call earth to bless this union. Keep us grounded as our journey together unfolds.
At this moment, they were to cut the meaty part of their thumb and let their blood drip in the wine. Zara lifted her dress slightly and pulled a dagger from her thigh. Tobias laughed and looked at her as if he did not expect anything less from his mate. She cut herself and let the blood drip into the chalice. Within a few seconds, her cut healed from her wolf’s magic. Zara handed her dagger to Tobias and he did the same. Then they were also to infuse the wine with each other’s magic. Zara lifted her left palm and pooled her magic there. Her pearl colored magic was mixed with her wolf’s blue and she let the magic slide down into the chalice. Tobias lifted his left hand and did the same. His magic was a mix of red, yellow, green, and blue. The both drank from the cup and placed it back do
wn on the table. Tobias did something unexpected. He knelt in front of her and took her left hand. She watched as her mate marking began to change. It burned as the mark etched into her skin, but as it completed it was worth the pain. The crescent moon filled with silver, vines sprouted from it and climbed up her arm, some were air, water, and fire instead of normal vines. There were also symbols of each element on some of the leaves. Then each vine climbed all the way to her chest and each one coiled to become a level within a crescent moon. The marking looked as though it was black ink but shimmered with silver. She looked to Tobias’ and the same thing was happening to his arm.
“My Luna. You are a confident leader, a cunning hunter, and a powerful queen in your own right. From the moment I saw you, I knew this day would come. I apologize to the bottom of my heart that I did not make it known to you. As we travel down this path together, I look forward to watching you step into your own power amongst your people. I will take pride in knowing that I was chosen to be by your side as you fulfil your destiny. I will not fear your power but encourage it to grow as we learn what new capabilities you will be blessed with as our bond completes. Pride is not a justified word to use when I look at you. You will always be more than what I have dreamed of as a mate and I am the lucky one in this union.”
He did not give her a chance to say anything back. Tobias immediately stood up and claimed her lips with his. She thought their first kiss was amazing. Now, it was so much more. She could feel his emotions along with hers. She could feel his heartbeat beating in sync with hers. Warmth and tingles washed over every inch of her as he opened his mouth and deepened the kiss. They were both breathless when he took a step back. His smile afterwards could make her go weak in the knees. Mine.
She remembered that she had his gift. She looked over to Atara and noticed every single member of her family was in tears. Sophia was leaning against Xander. She could tell that he was holding her up and he had a firm grasp on her hands. Raven was wiping her tears away with a tissue. Lucus and Atara were holding each other and wiping away their own tears. She smiled at them and held out her hand to Atara for the gift. She jumped up and rushed over to her and handed her the box. Zara turned to Tobias. “I present to you a gift from my heart.” He took the box and opened it. Then he looked at her and smiled. She reached over, took the necklace that she had crafted for him, and clasped it around his neck. It was a white gold chain that on closer inspection revealed that each link was one of the elements. From far away, it looked like a normal chain. As you got closer, you could see all the details. “I asked the Coven to bless this to amplify and purify all of your magic. This will keep you safe from any black or blood magic as well as help your magic stay strong in battle.” He leaned forward and kissed her slightly on the lips. “Thank you, my Queen.”
Now it was time to do what they had done a few days before; present her to the people as their Queen. They walked together arm in arm to the front door. When they emerged, the crowd cheered. “My people of Elementia. I present to you, my Queen, Zara!” One man, the man who protested their union a few days ago, stepped forward. Then he turned to the crowd. She thought he would begin to protest again. She was wrong. “Hail to Queen Zara!” He turned back around to face her and kneeled. Zara was shocked. Then everyone repeated the man with “hail, Queen Zara” and kneeled.
Chapter Twenty-Six: Atara
It was three days after the ceremony and Atara was missing her sister again. She was unsure when Zara would come back, but she knew it would be soon. It was less than two weeks away from the full moon. She knew Cyrus had to be plotting by now, he had to know that she was not returning by now. That she had found Zara. The thought consumed her.
From the moment the ceremony was over, and Tobias presented Zara as his queen to the people, she felt something swirling within. Her instincts were on high alert. That man, who opposed them, had everyone hail to Zara. There was something off about that. Why would he change his tone so quickly? Why would he be against Zara one moment and then kneel to her the next? She thought about that guy more. He smelled weird. He did not have a smell at all. Atara found that fact unnerving.
How can people not have a scent? She may not have come across every person on the planet, but she did know that every person had a scent. Every supernatural had a scent profile. She aced every subject, especially her species course. Atara knew that she was not crazy, not having a scent was unnatural. Was this guy working for the Sorcerer? Was his scent hidden because of black magic? Atara’s mind felt like it was unraveling. She needed to stop obsessing before she drove herself crazy.
Atara went for a run. She needed to clear her head. Obsessing was not going to do her or her wolf any good. Instead of giving Zara and Tobias space, she would end up outside of their door in her wolf form just to protect them. They may have just mated; it would be clear that they were in a lover’s fog and she would clearly hear that. She did not care. That would not be good for her new and budding relationship with her sister.
So, she ran. Atara jogged the entire perimeter of the territory. She could feel the magic of the Coven’s barrier and she ran inside it. The feeling was still there. It was nagging her, and she could feel her wolf becoming agitated. Something was wrong. She ran harder. Atara tried to focus on the trees, how all the trees have transitioned into their autumn colors. The reds, oranges, yellows, and purples. She could smell the mustiness of the leaves now that they were dying.
Something was wrong.
Atara could not shake the feeling as she neared the house again. Sophia was out back putting some of her plants into pots to bring inside. She looked up and smiled as Atara opened the back gate and entered the yard. Lucus was helping her and turned to face her when he noticed Sophia smiling in her direction.
“Hello, little wolf.” Sophia greeted her.
“What’s troubling you?” Lucus chimed in.
“I do not know. I feel nervous and I do not know why.”
She felt Sophia’s power wash over her. Atara inhaled deeply. Something was wrong.
“Ugh.”
“Not working?” Sophia asked.
Atara shook her head. Something was wrong.
“I can’t shake this. Even my wolf is saying something is wrong repeatedly. She never talks to me much.”
“Can I hold your hands, Atara?” Lucus asked.
She shook her head and put her hands out in front of her. Lucus walked over to her and put her hands-on top of another and then placed one hand on either side of hers. She felt power coming off him, something she never felt around him before. His hands glowed a lavender purple and she felt him read her emotions.
“Her wolf is very agitated and won’t let me go further. Something is wrong. I can’t find the link to connect with her.”
“Lucus, run and get Xander for me please.” Lucus obeyed.
“Why are you getting Xander?”
“Maybe him being an Alpha can help.”
Xander rushed out of the house. He was shirtless, she had never seen him without a shirt. He was not prepared for someone needing his help because he was always clothed. “What’s wrong?” Sophia explained what was happening to Atara to Xander. Atara sat there waiting for Sophia to finish and took deep breaths to help calm her. It was not working. Something was wrong. “Give me your hand, Atara.” She obeyed. Not because Xander was more dominant and she felt compelled to obey. She just wanted to know what was going on with her. Atara’s nervous energy was getting worse. She could not sit still. “I can’t get a read on her either. Her wolf will not let me in. She is too dominant. Only Zara would be able to get into her head and figure this out.”
ZARA!
SOMETHING IS WRONG!
Atara sprinted toward the woods. She followed the same path Zara had shown her to get to the Elemental realm. The walk took over an hour, she was at the entrance within fifteen minutes. Atara looked at the archway as she approached and hoped that Tobias did not revoke her right to enter the realm. She did not stop; sh
e did not care if he revoked it and she was flung backwards. She felt the magic wash over her as she transitioned from the Wolf Realm to the Elemental.
I got through!
Atara would never get over watching the world go from normal colors to the saturation of the Elemental realm. She may have been sprinting to the castle, but she still noticed that much. It did not take her long to reach the castle doors either. The castle was in the middle of the city, but it still did not take long for her to get there. She passed all the merchants on the streets. She did not notice if she bumped into people, she did not care. She had to get to Zara.
Finally, she reached the castle doors. She threw them open and went to scream for Zara and Tobias, but almost collided into Tobias instead. She halted just before she ran into him. He was screaming at the top of his lungs. “WHERE IS SHE!” Atara was almost knocked backwards as his power lashed out. Damn. No wonder he is a king. Tobias was yelling at his right-hand man, Torbin. “WHERE THE HELL IS, SHE! FIND HER!”
“Tobias!” Atara yelled. He turned to face her. The veins in his neck were bulging, his face was red from yelling. His power was rolling off him in waves. His multicolored aura pulsed around him. She noticed that the plants were growing, and it almost looked like they were reaching out toward Tobias to console him. “What is going on?” His power increased. It almost choked her. Torbin looked frightened and she could not blame him. Tobias pissed off is not a fun sight.
“Zara is missing.”
Chapter Twenty-Seven: Zara
It was three days after the wedding, and Zara woke up before Tobias. Instead of waking him, she slowly got out of bed and washed up. As she did, she looked at her new tattoo. It may have looked like black ink, but it also shimmered silver just like her eyes when her magic came to the surface. She loved that the design went from her ring finger, which had the crescent moon, now filled with pure silver. Then the vines started on top of her hand and went up to her shoulder and into her chest with the symbols of the elements on some of the leaves and a few small vines that looked like flames, strings of water and air blowing with swirled symbols. Then each vine of the different elements went all the way into her chest, coiled around and formed a crescent moon in the middle of her chest. She will proudly show her Mate tattoo.
