“If anything happens to Lamb and me, you girls need create your own portal kind of like I’m imagining you did to exit that holding room from before.”

“Create our own portal?” Cyra asked, confused.

“Yeah, it’s pretty simple. You just have to put your full energies together. It’s usually done by holding hands and focusing on something that you both can picture clearly; it’ll help you to transport somewhere else. However, in order for you to create a portal that will take you back to Earth, it needs to be of the landscape that you’re trying to transport to. Does that make sense?”

There was a long pause of silence before Gypsy spoke up, “yeah, but what if it doesn’t work? Then what?”

“I just need you to trust me on this that it will work. There’s a glitch in our system and that’s the only way for anyone to create their own portal to other galaxies that isn’t a Watcher. Not a lot of people know about it…” Dewayne trailed off.

A loud thud on the outside of their lockdown station interrupted the intense mood that had developed. They had to act fast if they were going to make it out of there alive. Time was running out and they needed to put their entire trust in the hands of these aliens they barely knew. No other choice but to follow Dewayne’s lead and hope they won’t get themselves killed in the process.

  CHAPTER ELEVEN

There was some sort of commotion going on outside their lockdown center, causing the Watchers in their area to be distracted. This was what they needed, but the four of them had to act fast if they had any chance of using it to their advantage. Gypsy and Cyra swallowed the pills Lamb and Dewayne had brought back from the scientists.

Their insides started to shift and they felt the change commence. Starting with their hands and feet that quickly morphed into having only three fingers and four toes. Gypsy grew to be about six feet tall while Cyra grew to about seven feet. The stardust around Gypsy’s head was long and had a wavy texture similar to how hers on Earth normally looked. Cyra’s stardust resembled her long curly hair on Earth as well and her coloring turned into a light green while Gypsy’s developed into a faded violet. Gypsy also developed a third eye in the middle of her forehead while Cyra developed an extra two, resulting in her now having four eyes.

Lamb and Dewayne had started creating a portal that would take them close to where the Council was being held. A heavy gravitational force started drawing objects in the room toward it. The ground began to create a whirlwind effect that started to turn into a black hole at first, then it rapidly started changing tie-dye colors that faded together in a galaxy pattern. The whooshing continued to get stronger as the gravitational pull continued to suck in objects from the room.

“The Watchers will notice any second so we have to go now!” Dewayne shouted over the strong whirring wind.

Lamb looked at the girls, “when going through this, it will feel weird but you are in the form of us now so you will be fine. Just a little bit of pressure. Act like nothing happened when we end up on the other side.”

The girls gave each other a once-over look from head to toe before jumping in one by one in between Dewayne and Lamb. There was a little bit of pressure, but it was over so quickly they barely noticed. The portal must have taken them to a far away place because the quarters they landed in were completely different compared to where they were before.

It was only mere seconds before Dewayne and Lamb grabbed either of the girls’ hands. They felt themselves camouflage into the wall like chameleons, a feature Gypsy and Cyra had no idea they were capable of.

Gypsy could feel the tips of Dewayne’s bulbs graze the top of hers subtly but noticeable enough that she could tell he was trying to communicate with her.

Why can’t…she tried to talk to him telepathically but his bulb tapped the tip of hers harder than before, telling her to shut up and quickly before they were completely fucked.

She had to turn off her deep thoughts until it was safe, Only rational and quick thinking; she couldn’t afford the risk of deep processing with all the Watchers that she could sense around the place. Dewayne was trying to communicate through the tapping and Gypsy needed to figure out what he was trying to say and fast. Their time was starting to run out and her life wasn’t the only one she had to watch out for.

The taps continued in patterns until Gypsy was able to repeat them back without hesitation, meaning she understood what Dewayne was trying to say. His bulbs at the ends of his finger tips were able to transmit wave lengths of the syllables he was trying to communicate. Like he had said before they jumped through the portal, just follow him, so that’s what they did. When the energy of the Watchers paused momentarily, they floated as fast as they could to a wall near this long hallway that had giant double doors at the end of it.

Along the bottom of the of the walls, where they met the floor, a colorful fog flowed, undisturbed as it changed hues to every spectrum of the rainbow. Their hearts were pounding out of their chests but there was no room to mess up now, they had come too far, but Cyra had a gut feeling something was off. She tried to reach for Gypsy’s hand, but she was too far away and communicating telepathically was off the table.

Lamb and Dewayne stood on either end of Gypsy and Cyra so there was no way for them to try to explore the mysterious quarter on their own, but then again, Cyra came to her senses and realized it might not have been the best idea to do that in the first place. Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something nerve-wrecking was going to happen. Her gut feelings are almost always right, but she had no way to get Gypsy’s attention. Gypsy was so focused on deciphering what Dewayne was saying, that subtly getting her out of her zone was going to prove to be nearly impossible.

They all started to move again, quickly, along the wall, inching toward the double doors. The closer they got, the worse Cyra started to feel; she felt sick to her stomach but couldn’t do anything about it, otherwise it would blow all of their covers. She tried to focus on not thinking to see if that would help to calm down how she felt about the intensifying situation, but it was no use.

Something behind those double doors was not meant to be discovered by humans, regardless of whether or not they had temporarily turned into aliens. While they were stopped, Cyra tapped the tip of Lamb’s bulbs to try to get his attention. His fingers twitched a little bit, but his focus remained locked on what Dewayne was doing. He was going along with the plan they had set before; it was too late to make a break for it, and they had already come this far so Cyra had to take a deep breath and go along with it. At least Dewayne and Lamb were there. Real aliens that could help communicate if need be and knew their way around the galaxy and station enough to help get them out of any sticky situations.

Once more, Dewayne guided their unison glide along the wall as they crept closer and closer. The uneasy feeling continued to get stronger as much as Cyra tried to put her mind at ease and just go with the flow. The bad energy radiating off the door was so strong it would make anyone sick. Maybe she was just a little bit more sensitive to it due to her anxiety as a human, but when the doors started to glow, she knew her gut feeling couldn’t be too far off.

Still trying to remain positive, she continued to move with the group as they continued to float as far as they could along the wall before Watchers made their rounds. The hallway was so long it seemed like it just kept repeating itself instead of allowing them to get closer. For as much moving as they had been doing, the double doors did not seem to be any closer than when they had barely started down the hallway.

The feeling that Cyra continued to have in her stomach got stronger, but she was confused as to why sight-wise, they were not making a lot of headway. It felt as though they had been floating down the same wall for miles, but still the depth perception was infinite. No end seemed to come about, despite the feelings of uneasiness and the slight gravitational pull that the doors were letting off.

  The glow kep
t getting brighter, then fading, getting brighter, then fading, over and over again, in a soft pattern. Whatever was behind the doors really did not want to be discovered and it became apparent that they would have to come up with some sort of way to get themselves to the part of atmosphere that was in between the gravitational pull of the doors and the push back that they were experiencing.

Watchers continued to glide through the hallway and into other rooms. Their presence alone was enough to put Cyra and Gypsy on edge, but the fact that whatever plan Dewayne had come up in his head was not working out the way he thought it would, wasn’t helping to calm how they were feeling on the inside; Cyra more than Gypsy, but neither of them felt too confident in their current situation.

When they paused to wait for the next move, Gypsy fully looked around at the hallway they were in. It appeared to be never-ending but also had an antique type of feel, despite all the other places they had been having a futuristic vibe; the only tell that it could have been connected to everything else was the glowing lights that changed colors along the floorboards. The walls were an off-white, almost cream color with gold accents lining the square and rectangular pop-outs. It reminded Gypsy of how older houses in the South would have been, with a clean, but aged feel. The ground was dark and resembled an abyss of nothing, giving the illusion that it would swallow anything that dared step on it.

Tap. Tap-tap. Tap. Time to move again. They kept inching what was supposed to be closer and closer to the doors, but it was as though they were being pulled back. The only way to get to the doors was by disturbing the force that was pushing them back without the Watchers noticing, which was going to prove to be nearly impossible. The gravitational force of the doors would surely snatch them up and lead to their capture if they didn’t go about it carefully. They had one shot to get it right and they had no idea what they needed to do yet since no one except Watchers and the Council had ever gotten to this point.

Time was running out as the lockdown continued and Watchers started to make their rounds more rapidly. Gypsy could sense Dewayne was starting to get internally frustrated since he was the one that was so confident in everyone following his lead. It felt like they were at a dead end but the glowing from the double doors intensified. Gypsy could feel Dewayne grab her whole hand instead of just gently tapping her bulbs. The atmosphere around them was starting to get thinner, making it harder to breathe. They needed to save as much energy as they could but with every breath the girls took, it felt like it was draining the bits of energy they were trying to conserve.

The uneasy feeling in Cyra’s stomach started to create a warm fluid-like motion that carried itself up into her chest and to the back of her throat. She felt sick but there was nothing she could do about it due to the fear and risk of being caught. Her head started to feel lighter and lighter until white dots clouded her vision. Gypsy’s head was feeling the same way; she held onto Dewayne’s hand as hard as she could but she could feel herself starting to slip. She had to stay still but her sense of reality was beginning to fade as her vision became nothing but the white dots.

Gypsy felt her head bob off to the side and she tightened her grip even more on Dewayne’s hand. Everything was white and her knees started buckling underneath her. She was trying her best to be okay but clearly something was wrong. The pressure surrounding them started to push on her chest as though they were going through another portal, but into another dimension that humans weren’t meant to go. The pit in the bottom of Cyra’s stomach persisted on and the pressure that started suffocating them didn’t help, but it all came to an immediate halt like nothing had happened after about thirty-seconds.

Cyra’s stomach calmed down and the anxious feeling went away. They looked around and saw Lamb and Dewayne standing above them with big smiles.

“I know that might have been a little scary but we just got transported into another dimension where no one can see or hear us, not even Watchers,” Lamb said.

“Wait, what?” Cyra asked confused as she looked down to see if she was still disguised as an alien.

“Yeah, what the hell happened?” Gypsy asked as she regained consciousness.

“I have no idea how we did it, but we had to transport ourselves into another unknown dimension so we could get to the double doors. We’ve only read about it in books but we somehow made it happen. How do you guys feel?” Dewayne offered a hand to the girls to help them up.

They were standing in a blank abyss of literally nothing. It was white, just white. No doorways or hallways and definitely no other aliens or people. If they spoke loud enough, it echoed throughout and then the sound disappeared into nothing. It seemed infinite with no start or end.

As Gypsy got to her feet she responded to Dewayne’s question, “like absolute shit. What the fuck do you think?”

“I had no idea how it would feel or how you guys would react as humans to the shift, so sorry about that,” Dewayne said in a sweet and soft voice.

“Well, it’s over now so let’s just focus on our next move,” Cyra said as Gypsy continued to have a sour look on her face.

“Right! We have to summon an inner-dimensional portal to take us back to where we were but while keeping us in this dimension…does that make sense?” Dewayne stated matter-of-factly like he had done it hundreds of times.

“What? We have to go through another portal? Are you fucking kidding me right now?” Gypsy was annoyed.

“Yes, but it’s not going to be nearly as bad, I can promise you that.”

“And we’re supposed to sit here and be okay with it?” Gypsy snapped.

“It appears so. Do you have any other ideas? Didn’t think so,” Dewayne was starting to lose his patience with Gypsy, “so I need you to just trust me because I’ve gotten you this far and from where I am, it appears that this is the only shot you have at returning to Earth.”

Gypsy was silent as Cyra tried to hold in a chuckle. He was right, this was their only shot at returning to a normal life so she had to trust him, even if she was irritated.

  CHAPTER TWELVE

While Cyra and Gypsy worked on getting themselves reoriented, Lamb and Dewayne worked on making another portal back to the corridor they were just in. Gypsy was still irritated that neither Dewayne nor Lamb gave them the heads up of how awful they would feel traveling into another dimension. She began to question whether or not this was just a bad dream she needed to wake up from, but her thoughts got interrupted by Dewayne and Lamb getting equally excited over making headway on the portal.

“We almost have it!” Lamb shouted back at the girls.

Cyra nodded her head with a half smile while Gypsy ignored them completely. Clearly not in the mood to be dealing with anything, Gypsy felt frustrated.

“Hey, I know you’re upset but you need to snap the fuck out of this dude,” Cyra whispered to Gypsy.

“You’re right. I am upset. Very much actually and I feel like shit on top of it,” Gypsy was pissed off.

“I know you are and I am too because I don’t feel too hot right now either but if we have any chance of getting out of this shit, you need to fucking stop.”

Gypsy took a deep breath and processed what Cyra had just told her. As much as she hated to admit it, Cyra was right. Gypsy was not happy with what had happened but at least Dewayne and Lamb were trying to help them.

It could always be worse, Gypsy thought to herself as she turned her attitude around.

This was the final stretch that they had to put up with before they could return to their lives on Earth. But the more Gypsy thought about it, the less normal their lives would be when they got back. Everything they went through and how persistent the Council and Watchers were with wanting humans and the EDM community dead would be almost impossible to forget.

Gypsy’s attitude turned into anger toward the Council and her adrenaline started to kick in. She grabbed Cyra’s hand and floated over to wh
ere Dewayne and Lamb had almost finished getting the portal to work. This one looked a little different since the dimension they were in was almost completely unknown to all creatures. Instead of drawing objects into it like the previous one had, this just looked like a blip of color breaking up the continuous white pattern of nothingness that filled the dimension they were in. The colors changed to a soft flow of rainbow hues and got bigger the more Dewayne and Lamb worked on it.

“Almost ready?” Cyra asked with a smile.

“Just about…we’re making sure it’s safe to go through and won’t take off any limbs,” Lamb replied with a small laugh.

There was a short pause and then Dewayne shouted, “Good to go!”

As they all approached the portal, the gravitational force from it started to tug at their relaxed hands. Dewayne jumped in first, followed by Gypsy and Cyra, then finally Lamb behind all of them, closing the portal as he landed. They were back in the same corridor they had just left, but this time, they had the freedom to move around without the fear of being caught by the Watchers. This unexplored dimension gave them the cover of invisibility, but they still did not have time to waste. In and out was the only game-plan they had put in place this time around, but the faster they got to the double doors, the better shape they would be in when it came time to exit.

Dewayne made weird hand motions to direct everyone to follow him back to the hallway they were in before. Still wary of how cautious or lack thereof they could be, Gypsy continued to move as stealthily as she could when Watchers made their rounds. Afraid to speak out loud, Cyra followed Gypsy’s lead and they stayed close to Dewayne as he inched closer and closer down the hallway.

The gravitational pulls in the hallways that they had experienced before were almost nonexistent. However, the pull from the double doors continued to have a steady force that drew them closer when they would pause any movements. Dewayne kept leading confidently until they were about two feet from the glowing doors. He looked back at the girls and Lamb; Gypsy looked up at him and for the first time since meeting, she saw a glimmer in his eyes that she hadn’t noticed before. Any fear he had seemed to be overcome by courage and Gypsy could sense his energy more than ever. Maybe it was the unknown dimension or maybe it was her energy syncing with his, but whatever it was, she finally felt calm.
