She chuckled and the three of them walked inside.
Okay, so it was sort of what Darcy had envisioned. She’d just never thought her business would be Alien Investigations, Inc. She and Karinthia had come up with a great advertising slogan:
Does your neighbor act a little odd? Does the cat
you’ve been feeding look at you strangely? Did you
hear a bump in the night? If so, for a nominal fee,
we’ll make sure you don’t get probed.
When Karinthia had told Darcy the goddess had given her the task of finding impures and bringing them home, Darcy realized what her mission in life was supposed to be. With the help of Surlock’s family, they would make sure no more impures were killed. At least, they would to the best of their ability, and maybe they would be able to capture Zerod and Nivla in the process. No one would be safe until those two were locked away in a cage.
And who else to investigate reports of alien activity than aliens? Not that anyone would know they were really aliens. But if clients reported something odd, they could investigate, and maybe save an impure.
“I have something that needs your attention in my office,” Darcy said in a loud voice as she pulled Surlock along with her. His sister snickered. Once they were behind closed doors, she turned and pressed her body intimately against his. “I don’t think she believed me,” she said, smiling.
“I don’t think so, either. Do you care?”
She shook her head. “Not really.”
When he lowered his lips to hers, she knew she had spoken the truth. She wanted to shout to the world just how much she loved him. Life was good.
