Skyler the Fireworks Fairy Page 6

by Daisy Meadows

  “So, we won?” Rachel asked.

  “Yes!” Carter yelled with glee.

“But we don’t get anything,” Sandy huffed again.

That’s when Rachel felt something tingle in her sweater pocket. She reached in and pulled out a golden charm. It hung from a long chain and was in the shape of a sparkler. In the moonlight, it really seemed to glitter. Rachel was certain Skyler had put it there.

“Here,” Rachel said. “You can have this.” Kirsty smiled at her.

Sandy’s eyes grew wide. “Really?” she asked. She reached out and took the charm in her hand.

“Really,” Kirsty said. “It was fun being teammates with you.”

Rose’s dad promised the winning team extra popcorn, and then everyone went to find their families for the big fireworks show.

“Mom, Dad!” Kirsty cried when she saw her parents. They were carrying blankets and beach chairs. Gran had a full bag of snacks.

“It’s so good to see you, sweetheart,” Mrs. Tate said to her daughter.

“I’m almost as excited to see you as I am to see these fireworks,” Mr. Tate added. “And that’s saying something.”

Everyone laughed, especially Kirsty. She was so relieved that Skyler had all her magic objects again.

“Thanks so much for having me,” Rachel said to the Tate family. “I love Honeydown. We’ve had a great time.”

Kirsty smiled. “Thanks for coming, Rachel,” said Kirsty. “It wouldn’t be the same without you.” The friends knew it was true. They were a real team when it came to helping the fairies. Kirsty sat down and patted the blanket so Rachel would sit, too.

“I have a feeling these will be the best fireworks yet,” Mr. Tate said as the first few flashes lit up the sky.

“What makes you think that?” Gramps asked.

“Well, it is Honeydown’s big birthday,” Kirsty’s dad answered. “But it’s something more than that. There’s just something magical in the air.”

Rachel and Kirsty smiled. The two best friends certainly agreed with that.
