“I think that my daughter loves to one-up me. She wants to ride with you because I said no.” Coyote stood and Talia’s eyes went to the beer bottle and the roach.

“I only had one,” he said.

“Okay, this time,” she told him. “Because you’ve been here and I know for sure you only had one. But Coyote…” Talia had only seen him a total of maybe eight times in her life. She already knew he drank, and way too much. She also already knew that he rarely told the truth about how much he’d had to drink. He told himself a dozen times over the past year that he needed to quit drinking again. At that moment, it was a dozen and one.

“I know, babe. I promise I won’t ever try to put her on the bike if I’ve had too much to drink.” He didn’t make any promises to her about quitting, because he wasn’t sure yet if he’d keep that one.

“I’m ready.” Sabrina popped back into the room. Her brown eyes actually looked excited and Coyote wanted to believe that was about taking a ride with him and not putting one over on her mom. He leaned over and kissed Talia on the cheek.

“I’ll be back in a bit,” he told her. It was Talia’s day off and Coyote had found the time to sneak away from the club for the day. Talia wouldn’t let him spend the night yet…but when Sabrina was at school and they had the house to themselves, she went from mom mode into sex kitten in a flash. Coyote’d had sex exactly three times in the past year and they’d all been with Talia. He knew that he could signal to any one of the club girls, any time he wanted one of them…but what he realized about himself in his old age was that sex without feelings really didn’t cut it for him. He wasn’t in love with Talia, but he definitely had feelings about and around her and their chemistry was still off the charts after all this time.

“Okay,” she said. “Be safe.” She looked at Sabrina and said, “Listen to him. You have to lean into the turns and hold on tight…” Sabrina laughed.

“I’ll be okay, Mom.” She went over and kissed Talia on the cheek too. “I love you.” It was the first nice, sincere thing that Coyote had heard her say to her mother. Talia claimed that when he wasn’t around, Sabrina was always nice to her. But when he was there, she was a sarcastic little brat. Coyote didn’t mind when that was turned on him; he figured he deserved it. But Talia was a good mom, and she didn’t. He’d had to bite his tongue nearly in half, more than once.

When they got outside, Coyote got on the bike first and he handed the helmet to Sabrina. She flipped it over and looked inside. “What are you looking for?” he asked.

“I don’t know,” she said. “It just seems gross to put your helmet on my head. What if you have bugs or something?”

He chuckled. “I don’t have bugs.”

“Well, there are a lot of things you can pass through sweat, and I know that’s in there.”

“You want a bandanna?” Sabrina reached up and absently ran a hand through her freshly styled hair.

“No, that would be worse,” she said, finally putting the helmet over her head and pulling it down. It was big on her and she had to tip her head back to see. “Not sure this was such a good idea.” Coyote chuckled again.

“You want me to call you a cab?”

She rolled her eyes. “Right, like I’d ever be seen getting out of a cab in front of my middle school. No thanks. How do I get on?”

“Just grab hold of me and jump on.” She made a face when she touched him. Coyote tried not to take it personally. He remembered Wolf when he was fourteen. It’s a moody age, and Colleen told him at least a dozen times a day not to take things personally. Sabrina was finally able to throw one of her legs over and gripping onto him tighter, she pulled the rest of her body up. He waited until she adjusted herself in her seat and then he said, “Hold on around my waist, tight.”

“What about turning, like Mom said?”

“Just try to lean the way I’m leaning. You’re so light, I doubt it’ll matter.” He felt her grip onto the sides of his vest and he turned the key. He thought he heard her squeak when the engine fired up. It was loud, and the bike vibrated, hard. Coyote let the clutch out slowly, not wanting to scare her, and he didn’t go over forty-five all the way to her school. As soon as he parked and turned off the bike, she jumped off, pulled off the helmet and said:

“Oh my God! Oh my God!”

He laughed. “Is that a good or bad ‘Oh my God?’”

“So freaking awesome. I loved it.”

It surprised him how happy that single statement made him. “Good,” he said with a smile.

“Sabrina?” Coyote and Sabrina looked toward the voice at the same time. Coyote narrowed his eyes. It was a boy, about her age, with saggy pants and a backward ball cap on. Coyote didn’t like him on sight. He couldn’t see Sabrina’s face, but he could hear her smile as she said:

“Hey, Isaac! Wait up and I’ll walk to first period with you.” When she turned back toward Coyote, his eyes were still on the boy. In almost a whisper she said, “Please don’t embarrass me.” Coyote instantly took that personally. What did she mean? Was she afraid he’d announce that he was her father? Louder then she said, “Thank you for the ride. It was awesome. I’ll see ya later.” Coyote had a lump in his throat still, so he just nodded at her. He watched as she walked over to the boy and he felt something like rage boil in his belly.

“Who’s that?” the kid asked her with his blue eyes still on Coyote’s face. Sabrina looked over her shoulder at him. She was smiling as she said:

“My dad.” Everything inside of him was suddenly turned into a huge pile of mush. He was her dad…and she hadn’t meant she was embarrassed by that. She must have read the look on his face when he saw the boy. He’d have to work on that. He never had a daughter before, especially a beautiful teenage daughter. He had been a teenage boy, though, and he had raised one, and he’d seen dozens of them come through both clubs…and he knew it wouldn’t be the last time he’d have to keep himself in check. He thought about Beck then. She was somewhere overseas now. She sent him a letter from time to time, but he hadn’t seen her since the day he and Seth caught her and Bruf in the shed. He knew it was wrong to take his anger out on Bruf that day, especially since Sarah told him that Beck had “a problem” with sex. He wasn’t sure what that meant, and he didn’t want to know. At least Beck was a grown woman…but he also wondered: if he could get that angry over a girl that wasn’t his flesh and blood, so angry that he’d hurt a guy that he loved like a son because of it, what might he do to someone that laid a hand on Sabrina? He sighed and put on the helmet that she handed to him. He wished that every fucking thing didn’t have to be so complicated.

He started his bike and as he did, his thoughts turned to Talia. Everyone and everything should be like her. Even after all the shit she had been through, because of him, she was blessedly, uncomplicated. She said what she felt, she told him what she wanted, she appreciated his honesty, and she understood that he had a lot on his plate with the club, and he couldn’t be there all the time. Sometimes he did imagine what it might be like to make her his old lady…but he was pretty sure that she’d never agree to that as long as Sabrina was living at home. Maybe someday…

Coyote walked into Talia’s house without knocking when he got back. He figured that she was waiting for him, so he didn’t knock. He walked through the living room and into the kitchen and when he didn’t see her, he went back into the hallway and called out her name.

“In here,” she said. His body tensed with excitement already, just knowing she was in the bedroom. He almost jogged down the hallway, but when he got there, the room was empty. The bathroom door was cracked open about an inch and when it suddenly opened, steam wafted out from inside. Talia appeared in the doorway, wrapped in a towel. Her hair was piled on top of her head, her face was scrubbed clean and her skin was glistening. She smiled and said, “I took a bubble bath. I planned on being out and dressed by the time you got back…but it felt so good, I didn’t want to get out.”

You don’t need clothes,” he said, kicking the bedroom door shut behind him. Coyote went over to where she was standing and put his big hands on her soft shoulders. He bent down and kissed her, slowly. She let her tongue dance with his and the kiss went on for what seemed like hours before they finally had to part to take a breath. Talia breathed in, but she didn’t separate from him. Instead, she wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled their bodies in tighter together. Coyote slid a hand down and untucked her towel. It fell loose but was trapped between them. He moved his body back, just half an inch, and the towel fell. He pulled her back up against him and let her bare breasts crush into his chest. He moaned when he felt her hard nipples peak against his skin. He kissed her again, this time letting his mouth move down the side of her face to her neck. She tipped her head back and he spent some time there, kissing and biting and licking and sucking. She pressed her pelvis into the front of his jeans where his cock was growing harder by the second and wiggled her hips. He reached down with one hand and slid his arm under her butt so he could pick her up off the floor. Once her breasts were even with his mouth, he sucked one in and began to bite and nibble at it, causing her to squirm in his arms.

“Oh, Jesus, Coyote…that feels so good, baby.” He moved over to the other breast, wrapping his other arm around her back as he did and walking forward. He sucked on that one, slowly licking around the nipple and flicking it with his tongue every so often before sucking it hard again. While he had her breast in his mouth, he walked toward the bed. When he had her right over it, he took his mouth off her and dropped her down. Talia squealed when she hit the bed and bounced up, but it only took her a second to recover. She sat forward and started pulling at his clothes, pushing his vest back off his arms and tugging at his t-shirt.

  “Whoa, my girl is horny.”

“Yes,” she said, in a breathless voice. “Get naked.”

He smiled and finished taking off his vest. While he was pulling his t-shirt over his head, she went for his jeans. She had them unbuttoned and unzipped before he finished taking off his shirt. She sat up on her knees, looking so sexy with her breasts jutting out and her naked pussy glistening with moisture. She took his pants and shorts in her hands and pushed them down until his rock-hard cock popped out and then she simply lay down on her belly, facing him, and sucked it into her mouth. Coyote’s entire body tingled when she got her lips wrapped around it. She never let her tongue stop moving while she slid her lips up and down the shaft, letting the length slide in and out of her mouth. Coyote wrapped his fingers up in her hair and held on tight, guiding her head up and down, moving her faster and arching his hips so his cock would go in deeper. “Aah, baby…so fucking good.” Talia smiled around his cock, but she didn’t miss a beat. “Mm…it’s been too long. Let’s not wait so long next time.” He got an eye-roll for that one. He was the one that controlled when they saw each other for the most part. If Sabrina wasn’t going to be there, Talia rarely said no.

Coyote pulled her off his cock and said, “I want to taste you, baby.” He got up on the bed with her and lay down on his back. Using one arm, he lifted her up on his body and kissed her for a while before taking her underneath her arms and pulling her up so that her pussy was right over his mouth. Talia lowered her wet lips down to his and Coyote ran his tongue between them, causing her to shudder. He found her tight tunnel and snaked his tongue up into her, as deep as it would go. Talia was pulling at her own hair and moaning as he moved his tongue around inside her. He had his hands on her thighs, holding her as still as he could so he could explore her sweet, sensitive folds. When she was panting and whimpering so loudly that he thought she was on the verge of an orgasm, he moved his mouth up and sucked her swollen clit in between his lips. She cried out his name, loudly, and her body slumped forward. Coyote used his teeth to scrape along the side of her clit and in less than a second her body began to convulse and he could taste her release.

“Oh my God!” she cried out, still squirming around on his face. “Fuck!”

Coyote chuckled and lifted her up so he could slide her body back down his chest. He loved the feel of her soaked pussy against his hot skin. When her pelvis reached his, she arched up and her pussy found his hard cock without any more direction than that. She slowly let him slide into her and he instantly felt the warmth of her tight walls as they closed around him. His cock throbbed inside her and his eyes were treated to the sight of her sexy nude body as she straightened her back and sat on top of him. She smiled down at him and wiggled her hips, taking him in deeper and biting down on her bottom lip as she did. Coyote reached up and took her breasts into his hands. He held onto them when she began to bounce up and down on his cock, riding him expertly. Every nerve and fiber in his body was engaged in what she was doing to him. He squeezed her breasts hard and her nipples seemed to grow into his palms. She looked so sexy, wildly throwing her hair around, and flexing the muscles in her arms as she held onto his.

She rode him for a long time and he held back his orgasm for almost the entire time, not wanting it to be over. He finally felt her fingernails digging into his biceps, and the smooth tunnel his cock was sliding in and out of tighten even more. Her body began to shake again and that was the moment that he exploded as well. He groaned loudly as he came, and Talia was panting and moaning as she did the same. They were both covered with sweat…and each other…and when she finished with her massive orgasm, she collapsed onto his chest and he held her there, heartbeat to heartbeat.

“Don’t wait so long next time,” she whispered, into his chest. Coyote chuckled and kissed the side of her face.

  “Okay, baby. I won’t.”

  New Year’s Eve 2009

Coyote felt like he was living a double life, and it was wearing him out. He had obligations to his club, and those obligations extended beyond work and into things like holidays and get-togethers. October was manageable but when November rolled around, and Thanksgiving, and then Christmas, the running back and forth and coming up with excuses had begun to wear on him. He had made promises to Sabrina and Talia that he didn’t want to break. The three of them were growing closer, almost like a family…but Talia still wasn’t willing to let her daughter live in the midst of an MC, and Coyote didn’t see the point in pissing his son off by telling him about them, if they weren’t going to be a significant part of his life. So, he ran himself ragged…and on New Year’s Eve, he was just done.

“Boss, you ready to party?” Two Tone was pouring drinks and the jukebox was blaring. The girls were dressed in their skimpiest outfits and a handful of nomads had even shown up for the party. Coyote had eaten with the group, a delicious meal that Trisha and some of the other girls had put together. But after dinner, all he wanted to do was find a quiet, dark corner and nurse a bottle. He didn’t tell Two Tone that, though. He smiled and said:

“You bet.” He kept walking, though, out the door of the club and to his bike. He was climbing on the back of it when the sounds of several engines caught his attention. He turned toward the front gates in time to see Wolf, Bruf, and Maz racing through them. Cinch was working the gates and as soon as the guys came through, he closed them. Coyote’s first instinct was to go back inside and hide, but he knew he couldn’t do that. So, he waited for them to all roll up and kill their engines, and then he looked at Wolf and said:

  “What?”

  “We lost Steve.”

  33

“You lost him? Is he dead?” Steve and Maz had been on a short run, dressed in their street gear. Wolf and Bruf were their tails. They kept their distance and wore street clothes too. They were just going to Bakersfield, a hundred miles south, to pick up a kilo of heroin to deliver to one of the gangs they had started supplying in Madera. It was supposed to be an easy trip, with the guys all being home in time to ring in the New Year.

“I don’t think so,” Maz said. “We got about as far as McFarland and we realized we had picked up a tail somewhere.” Coyote had to listen hard to understand him and at t
imes like this, he wanted to grab the big Frenchman and shake him. He looked at Wolf and said:

  “Where were you?”

“About three miles back, just where we were supposed to be. We never follow any closer than that, or not wearing our colors is a moot point—we look like a club that lost their patches.” Coyote ignored Wolf’s sarcastic tone and turning back to Maz he said:

“So, you realized you had a tail, then what?”

“I sent Wolf a text and let him know, and Steve and I just kept pushing on, obeying all the laws and shit…they kept on us and about the time we got to Tulare County we were both running low on gas.”

“He sent me another text,” Wolf said. “That car was crossing county lines, which meant they couldn’t stop them until they got back to Fresno County. We waited and watched while they filled up at a truck stop. The car did too. We knew it was definitely an unmarked at that point…”

“One of you going to get to the part where you lost Steve? Was he the one carrying?”

“Yeah, boss. He had the kilo on him.” That kilo cost the club 85k. They were selling it to the dealer in Madera for 125k. It was supposed to be an easy 40k profit but now it looked like it was going to be a huge loss…not to mention if the cops caught Steve with it, that would open the door to search warrants since he lived on the property.

“So, where the fuck is he? Where are my drugs?”

“We got back on the road and the car followed us until we got to the Kings/Fresno County line. The second we crossed that line, they hit their lights, Boss. I knew it would be better if they caught me than Steve since I wasn’t carrying anything, so I waved him off at the first dirt road and I took off like a bat outta hell.”

  “So, they chased you?”
