Taken by Nero Wolf (Magnificent Beasts Book 2)

“He didn’t expect that I would appear at all. And he didn’t expect that I knew the serpents were coming from the underground. But I knew ever since we discovered the ancient altar of the serpent god deep in Theodore’s gardens. While the two of us made love, my senses were even more heightened than usual. I heard them slithering underground, right under that altar. It’s how Theodore knew for a fact you and I were having an affair. Because the serpents from the underground told him.”
She keeps looking at me, as if trying to read how sincere I am. “What about Paola? I can’t accept you had an affair with her for so long without her meaning anything to you. That would make you a monster. And my father would be right.”
“I never said Paola didn’t mean anything to me. She just didn’t mean as much as you. Besides, my affair with her had a point—I knew she was in with the serpents, and I was using her to get to the serpent leader back then. The leader found out, and sent her away from the States, allegedly on business, to cut her liaison with me. That’s why I had Theodore invite her to Darkwood Falls when he mentioned her. Because I knew she was related to the serpents, and she was a good lead for us.”
“So much using people,” she says. “You can be a villain, Nero, which is why I need distance, at least for a while. I have to think about this.”
“I’m sorry, Princess, can’t do. I won’t spend another day away from you even if the devil himself emerges from hell and tries to come between us. Besides, you love me, too, I can feel it.”
“I’m your fated mate, I’m somehow compelled to love you. It’s hard to explain, but you’re more like a drug than a Prince Charming.”
“Really? Then tell me all you feel is this compulsion. Tell me that your love for me isn’t real, it’s just the mate’s call, and in truth you despise me because I’m a beast and a killer.”
Tears pool in her eyes as if the idea alone hurts her. She places her white hands on the sides of my face, and rises on her toes, wanting to kiss me.
“Damn it, Nero Wolf, I must be sick and twisted, but I love you so much that it hurts. I shouldn’t want you the way I do, not after I witnessed your cruelty at Theodore’s, and that’s the main reason why I need the distance. But if you ask me what I really want deep down, then this is the naked truth—I want to be yours, I want to spend every night in the arms of my big bad wolf. And I want your cubs.”
Emotion explodes in my chest. I lift her up in my arms and head with her to the bed, my cock iron hard for her.
“I’ll plant my cubs inside of you, my alpha queen. And I’ll start right now.”
I lay her down on the bed, unwrapping the towel from her body, and pushing her legs aside, kissing her wildly. I could care less who hears us, even who catches us. But then her cell vibrates back on the vanity table where she dropped it, and then mine does, too. Both our phones vibrating can only mean it’s serious. I hitch mine from my pocket. It’s Conan.
‘Come to Janine’s hotel in the woods ASAP. You won’t believe this shit.”
One look at each other is enough for Princess and me to make the decision at the same time. Conan has seen and experienced some serious amount of shit in his long life, and if he sends a text like that, then it must be huge. Janine texted Princess about the same thing.
We grab our clothes, and only ten minutes later I’m holding the door to my car for my future wife, in front of her father and the servants. I let my eyes sweep over their faces one last time as I head to the driver’s side—yes, we’re together now, and if anyone ever dares come between us again, I’ll rip their heads off.
