Accidental Boss

Page 4

by Tilly Pope

“I know about the mix up. I never thought you were being malicious. You need a job. I need your qualifications.” He kisses the tip of my nose and I giggle at the tickle as heat fills my whole being.

“I don’t normally do things like this.” For some reason I need him to know I’m not just some casual sex seeking slut. Not that I have anything against women like that, I’m just not like that. “I’ve never gone home with someone while drunk.”

“I know.” His lips touch mine. “But I’m glad you did this time and I’m glad it was me.”

My headache is gone and I press my forehead to his. Being here with him is nicer than I’d like to admit. I expected to feel weird, awkward even. After all isn’t waking up with your boss after drunkenly sleeping with him supposed to be a little uncomfortable?

But, Pax puts me at ease in every gesture, every word, every touch. The man is exactly the kind of man I want to be with; self-confident, reserved and calm with that alpha vibe that melts my panties into a puddle of mush.

“I still feel bad for not just telling you about the mix up.” We’d gotten off on the wrong foot. And my brain begins to race. What am I doing? It doesn’t matter. This is just a fling. Just a quick physical thing between us that we’ll likely never repeat.

“Don’t. I’m not upset about it. I don’t feel betrayed. It’s not an issue.” His arms tighten around me. “I feel like a lucky bastard that you happened to go to the wrong place for an interview that day.”

I can’t hold back my smile and he kisses me again. My belly tightens as the kiss deepens. His tongue meets mine and sweeps my mouth in a way that makes my heartbeat way too fast. Tingling heat settles between my legs again and a shiver sneaks down my spine.

He pulls back an inch and his eyes meet mine. “Do you want to know what I think?”

My breath catches in my throat and I glance at his lips. Unable to trust my voice, I simply nod in response as my heart speeds in my chest. I want to know what he thinks.

“I think fate wanted us together. And who are we to stop fate?”

Of course I knew about the mix up. The fact that she has regrets about keeping it from me means more than I let on, of course. I like knowing that hiding things like that isn’t something she enjoys or wants to do.

But I’m not upset at all. I didn’t come clean either, not that I had a chance with how quickly she bolted after the real Miss Evans left.

Plus, she’s so gorgeous and innocent I had to have her, even then. Even now the mental image of her staring at me as I stepped out of my office after Miss Evans left is fresh in mind’s eye. She looked hurt as her delicious lips parted. Her wide blue eyes searching my face, my collar and tie I’d loosened because my day was fucking over then snapped up to meet mine. She’d turned and fled. There was no other word for it. It was an escape.

  “Fate, huh?” She asks.

I press my lips to hers before untangling from her arms. She watches me stand and lets out a little squeal of surprise when I scoop her up into my arms and carry her to the bathroom. Her arms wind around my shoulders and she clings to me, a stunned look on her face as I set her on her feet in front of the shower.

I turn the water on to let it heat up before turning to face her. I want to tell her I’m not done with her. That now that I’ve had a taste of her, I want more. But I also don’t want to scare her away. Instead, I’ll show her exactly what I want. I’ll teach her everything she doesn’t know and enjoy every second of it.

As steam pours out of the shower, I take her hand and walk her into the glass enclosure. She moves with me, her eyes lock on mine. I can’t help but admire her. She’s every bit as beautiful as she was the night before. Or even more beautiful somehow. I’m not sure. But those long legs of hers lead up into perfectly rounded hips. Her hip bones jut just so and her flat belly tucks up into her narrow ribs. Her perky round breasts make my mouth water and I can’t help myself. I bend a bit and take one of her perfectly pink nipples in my mouth and suck.

Her fingers thread through my hair and she lets out a whimper as the hot water cascades over us. I grip her hips with both hands, loving how she leans into me as if begging for more. I’ll give her more if she wants more. But first…

I pick up a washcloth and cover it with the sweet lavender and citrus soap before turning to her. With gentle hands, I hold her close and begin to rub her down. The cloth leaves behind soapy white lather on her skin. I run a hand over the suds, stunned at how impossibly soft and slick she feels under my fingertips.

She sighs, her hands holding onto my arm as if she’s worried she’ll fall if she doesn’t hold on. I continue washing her down, rinsing away last night’s sex and sweat from her body. With soap on my hand, I slip between her thighs and trace the valley there. My fingertips skim past her entrance and clit and a shiver rolls through her as her eyes meet mine.

Her teeth capture her top lip as her eye dart back and forth between mine as if she’s trying to tell me all the things she’d like me to do to her without any words. And oh, fuck do I want to do all the things she’s silently begging me for.

I move back a tiny bit and water tears down the suds on her skin, rinsing them down the drain as she runs her hands up her ribs and over her breasts. She squeezes her eye closed and I notice how her touch lingers a second too long on her tits before moving up to gather her wet hair away from her face and giving me an incredible view of her delicious body. Fuck, I want to taste her. I want to put my mouth all over her. I want to run my tongue over every inch of her skin until she begs me for more.

I want to give her more.

“I never even got your name.” Her shy voice fills my thoughts and I stop in surprise. That’s right. We never did introduce ourselves. I’d thought she was Miss Evans but found out she was Holly. But Nadia must have not told her who I am, and she didn’t really have many ways to find that information.

  “I’m Pax Frost.”

Her shy smile lights up my whole damn world. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, Pax. I’m Holly, but you already know that.”

Some part of me wants to add that I own PF Holdings, the company that hired her, but I don’t want to share that little bit of info just yet. I want to find out if what we have is as real as it feels before telling her that I’m a goddamn billionaire.

  “The pleasure is mine.”

Her eyes widen as I kneel before her. I kiss the vee between her legs, instantly losing myself in her scent, her taste, the softness of her skin. With a growl of appreciation, I kiss her again.

My cock is so damn hard all I can think about is burying myself in her, but I really want to feel her come. I want to taste her. I want to hear my name on her lips while she’s lost to the pleasure I’m going to bring her.

She moans a little as I tease her with a quick lick of my tongue. Her fingers grip my hair and her hips press forward as if she’s going to grind on my face until she comes. The idea thrills me. With my tongue, I part the delicate flesh between her thighs and find her button. Instantly she jolts and gives a sigh of pure enjoyment as I begin to tease the little bundle of nerves.

My fingertips dig into her hips and I hold her upright as my tongue works quick circles around her clit. I alternate with slashing motions that make her whole body jerk and she whimpers.

  “Please don’t stop doing that.”

I glance up at her. The concentration on her face warms me and my cock twitches. Wrapping my hand around my aching dick, I give a half-hearted tug, knowing it won’t do me a damn bit of good right now.

So I focus on her. I tease her with my tongue until she’s teetering on the edge and bring one hand between her legs and plunge my finger into her and hold onto her thigh with my hand. Her hips buck as she tightens up. Her body tightens around me, fluttering around my thumb and flooding my hand with moisture as she lets out cute and sexy little gasping noises. She holds onto my shoulders as if she’ll fall otherwise and I ease off her clit because I d
on’t want to hurt her.

As a shiver rips through her I stand up and spin her around. She plants both hands on the shower wall and I thrust up into her. Her body closes around me, tight and slick and I have to hold back to keep from exploding instantly.

I use her body without mercy and she seems to love every moment of it. When she comes around me again, I lose myself in her and hold her tight as I pour every bit of myself into her. When our breathing returns to normal, I gently run the cloth over her, wondering if I’ll ever feel like I’ve had enough of her. Even now, so soon after, my cock is at attention.

What is it about Holly? What about her makes me crave her? I know better than to get attached. I know better than to fuck co-workers. I’ve never done it because I’ve always put work first.

  But now…now Holly comes first.

“What’s with that grin?” Her whisper brings me back to the present and I kiss her lips. The grin she’s asking about? It’s because I’ve admitted to myself that she comes first. And I hope to keep her coming again and again and again.

Which is a lot easier now that I know it wasn’t just alcohol that drove her into my arms.

Nope, she’s sure as fuck not drunk now.

“It’s amusing we got into the shower to get clean.”

A grin toys with the corners of her lips. “And we wound up getting dirty.”

  I nod.

“Ready for another round?” Her breathless whisper has my cock aching and I swallow hard. Fuck yes I’m ready for another round.

  Holly

  A few months later

Staring at my computer screen I continue to bust my backside on the project I’d been given. It’s all coming together perfectly and I’m proud of the work I’ve done. My time working with Pax is fulfilling and I love my job more than I ever expected.

The clickity-clack of my fingers on the keys fills my ears and my heart dances in my chest while I think about him. What I expected to be a one night stand turned into weeks. Those weeks turned into months and now, I’m pretty sure he’s the guy for me.

I know it’s soon. I know it’s sudden. But we’ve spent all our spare time outside work together.

My cheeks sting as I think about the time at work we’ve spent together. Bent over his desk. Spread out on mine. The naughty messages he sends telling me to meet him in his office. And, the conference room table—where we first met—has also seen its fair share of misuse.

  I love him.

I know it with all my heart and soul. Fate wants us together. And who are we to stop fate?

  I think he’s right.

With a smile on my face, I focus back on work and try to contain the joy shimmering inside me. Finding out he’s the CEO was a bit of a shock. It’s still a surprise thinking about it now. Knowing how much money he makes and how he likes to spend it on me makes something flutter in my belly. I’m not a material girl. Not at all. But when he bought me a beautiful diamond and sapphire necklace? I melted.

I back up and fix a mistake before continuing on the project, my mind still on Pax. The necklace isn’t the only thing he’s bought me. I’ve also got a shiny new car, a bedroom set that I love, and he helped upgrade my kitchen because we spend so much time back and forth at his place and mine.

  “Holly!”

I glance up as my secretary, Cara, bursts in the door. There’s an intensity to her that the short, petite woman never has. She’s so laid back and calm that seeing her like this has me leaping to my feet.

She’s breathless when she speaks. “There’s an emergency in the conference room!”

The conference room. My heart sinks. Pax and I met in the conference room. Is Pax okay? What kind of emergency?

I hurry out and rush toward the conference room. The shades are drawn and I can’t see anything from the outside. I yank open the door to a soft glow and wait for my eyes to adjust to the new light with my heart pounding in my throat.

Pax is right in front of me, down on one knee and the glow I see is candlelight. A thousand candles light the room in an ethereal glow and excitement rushes through me. What’s going on? Is he going to do what I think he’s going to do?

Tears sting in my eyes as my worry about the emergency melts away and warmth replaces the concern.

Pax’s blue eyes are locked on my face and a small smile toys with the corners of his lips. “I had a whole night planned out for this.”

My tears flow faster down my cheeks and I try to inhale around the prickly lump in my throat.

“I couldn’t think of a better place to ask you than right here where we first met.” His bright blue eyes trace my face with all the love and warmth that’s been growing over the last few months. His sweet sentiment nearly destroys me and I reach for his hand. It’s so strange to have him kneeling like this.

His hand is warm as his fingers wrap around mine in a comforting hold. “I love you, Holly. I loved you the second you walked into this room and told me that you were going to be honest.”

I blush, remembering that conversation and how I told him that if I didn’t get the job I’d lose my home. Since then, it’s been easier to be open and candid with him and I find it refreshing to be able to openly talk about things with him. I’ve never been in such a mature relationship and it’s exactly what I need.

“I love you too,” I whisper.

His whole face lights up, but he continues speaking as if I hadn’t said anything. “I love that honesty, your candor, how open you’ve been with me. I love that you don’t give a fuck who I am or what size my bank account is.”

I must look surprised, because he grins and says, “It might not seem like an issue, but I was worried to tell you at first. I wanted to be sure you love me for me, not for my money.”

“I’m sorry that was ever a concern.” I don’t care about his money. Sure, it might make things easier, but I love him and I’d still love him even if he was as poor as I am. Uhm… as poor as I was. With this job, I’m no longer poor. The salary he gives me is more than enough for me to not only pay off the past due bills, but I’m saving up to buy my townhouse.

And it’s not just a pipe dream; I actually might be able to do it thanks to his generosity. Though when I brought up how much he’s paying me, he told me he thinks he’s paying me less than I’m worth and he’s looking into getting me raises. I’m not worried about that, though.

He continues talking, pulling me out of my thoughts. “That first moment you said let’s not waste each other’s time… that sealed the deal. I’m sick of people wasting my time and playing games with me.” His grin widens. “I guess I should stop stalling. I want to spend the rest of my life with you, if you’ll have me.”

My heart melts in my chest as he pulls out a white box tied with a blue ribbon. He opens it and the shiny ring glitters in the flickering candlelight. My breath catches in my throat as I stare at the beautiful princess cut diamond surrounded by sapphires. It’s big, and beautiful.

I realize he’s waiting for my answer and I take a deep breath, willing my throat to not give out on me now. “I think fate wants us to be together. Who are we to stop fate?” I can’t keep the smile off my face as he hesitates. His eyes search my face like he’s looking for my answer and I realize I need to be clearer.

  “Yes! Yes, I’ll marry you.”

With that, he breathes a sigh of relief.

“Did you think I was going to say no?” I ask.

His eyes meet mine as he lifts a shoulder. “It is sudden and soon. But I’m sure. Do you know what I mean?” His brows knit together as if he’s aware his words aren’t quite enough to convey how he’s feeling.

I nod. “I know exactly what you mean. I was thinking about it right before Cara told me there was an emergency in here.” The fact that I was set up sinks in, but I’m not mad. I’m the furthest thing from mad. I’m the happiest woman in the world and I get to spend the rest of my life with the love of my life. How can things get any better?

“Tell me why you’re crying.” He slips the ring on my finger and stands up. Taking my face in both his hands, he swipes the tears away with the pads of both thumbs.

I look him in the eyes, loving the warmth and joy seeping through me as the gravity of what’s taken place sinks in. He asked me to marry him! I said yes! The ring feels strangely heavy on my finger and I’m as aware of it as I would be a sixth finger.

“I’m not sure why I’m crying.” It’s the honest truth. I couldn’t be happier.

His eyes dart back and forth between mine, love and concern shining in them.

My life has slipped into place and I can’t believe how lucky I am. “I am happy, I swear.” I sniffle and try to blink back my tears. I’m not a crier, so why the heck am I carrying on like this? It’s embarrassing!

I scan the room, the candles, the place we’d first met and think about how far we’ve come in such a short time. “This is perfect. Every bit of it.” I’m happy he asked me like this. It has meaning, it’s personal.

“What can I say?” He asks, pulling me into his arms and pressing a kiss to my forehead. “Who are we to stop fate?”

  Six Months Later

I sit at my place waiting for her to show up. I’m struggling to keep my excitement in check because today is the day I finalize the perfect Christmas gift for Holly.

  She’s mine. I’m hers.

She said yes! And soon, she’s going to say I do. How the fuck did I manage to get so damn lucky?

Someone so sweet and loving, so kind and honest, someone that has become my best friend and partner in business. She’s so quick witted and intelligent, funny and quietly appealing. She’s fucking perfect in every way and it steals the breath right out of my damn lungs when I think about her.
