Morgan smiles, “The vampires believe angelic blood will make them immune to sunlight. It is a ceaseless war between us.”
“Is it true?” The Shadow King asks.
“They have only managed to capture fallen angels and their blood is not compatible with vampires. I do not intend to find out if mine is!” Morgan says with a short laugh.
“Duncan, how is it that the two of you have not been discovered?” Ariana asks.
“We have friends shielding us, the Fae King could not leave his people to fight alone at the Vale. He could, however; send help.” Samantha says pointing at the woods. Elves shimmer to sight, standing shoulder to shoulder with the shadowed Fae who are loyal to the Reese. Beside them, Pixies, Fairies, and more join the ranks to offer what they can. From the mountain a high-pitched scream echoes out and ripples through the woods.
“It begins,” Reese calls out.
Chapter 20
Katie’s eyes open and Colin blinks, confused. Her blue eyes are now, white! Her scream rips through the cavern stunning every creature within ear shot. They fall like dominoes as she shakes the glamour spell free. Leaping down she stretches her beautiful white wings and grabs the King’s crown. The forest fairy screams once more to make sure they are stunned and runs leaping straight through the wall landing in the arms of a waiting angel, Gabriel. With a whoop of laughter, he soars through the evening sky and lands beside, Morgan.
“Not bad, for a fairy,” Gabriel says impressed by her skills.
Her white eyes stare at him. He is muscular as all angels are, with black hair and black eyes she snaps, “I’ve yet to see what skills you possess, Angel. Beauty and brawn will only get you so far.”
Gabriel lowers her feet to the grass, and he laughs, “So you think I’m beautiful?”
She struggles not to smile as she walks to the King. Bowing before him she offers the crown.
“Thank you, Sister,” Reese says softly.
Reese turns to Ariana and hands her the crown. He bends and she takes the crown lowering it to his blonde hair. With pride, she looks at him through tears. He turns to Morgan and smiles. Morgan walks slowly forward and lifts his hand holding a matching crown.
Ariana looks stunned when Reese takes the crown and lowers to one knee. “Ariana, I know this is bad timing, but I would ask anyway. Life is not promised to us beyond this moment. Will you be my Queen, My Mate, My love and share my life? Help me save our people?”
She drops to her knees in front of him, “I will be your Mate, Reese. I will share your life, and we will save our people!” she promises fiercely as Reese lowers the crown to her head. Ariana feels a hum of power ripple through her body as her power is magnified. Her mate smiles and kisses her softly.
When he opens his eyes a fire glows behind the icy blue center.
“It is time!” he declares pulling her to her feet.
Chapter 21
Colin falls to the floor stunned by the scream of the fairy. His army lies immobile inside the cavern and he hears Reese call him.
“Betrayer!” Reese screams in his head. “If you wish to surrender now, I will make your death quick.”
Colin struggles to move his hands and feet, he knows her spell will only last another few seconds. He rolls over and stands up slowly watching those around him do the same.
Colin orders those unaffected by the fairies scream to gather outside of Reese’s mountain, “Brothers and sisters your King has returned, and he brought you a treat! An Angel! His blood is rich and pure. It will strengthen you and make you a God! No longer a slave to the sun! Kill them all!” he rages.
They pour down the mountain moving with elemental speed. Some move through the air, some run down the rocky wall and others beneath the earth. Colin and the others begin to shake off the fairy spell. He runs to the top of the mountain to watch, laughing in delight! Finally!
“Morgan, their numbers are strong. You do not have to stay here. You have done more than your duty and I thank you for it.” Reese says as he watches the shadowed Fae, demons, and vampires descend on them.
“Today we fight for all of our species.” Morgan pulls a trumpet and blows it calling his brothers. They are twelve in number, but all are powerful archangels, with elemental gifts.
“Reese, Samantha and I will seal the lower chambers and drive them back inside the mountain so you can destroy them,” Duncan yells as they break into a run around the side of the mountain.
The Forest Fairy drops to all fours and howls for her sisters. “We will fight with you,” she says snarling at the ground beneath her feet.
Gabriel watches as the Forest Fairies gather and follows them with his swords. He watches the woods behind them and takes to the air following them from above.
Duncan has a plan to trap as many vampire Fae inside the Black Mountain as he can. He has made it his job to know this mountain and all of its secrets. He shows Sam the image he has in mind and her eyes glow white as she uses her second sight to guide their every move. The Forest Fairies are the bait as they run straight inside the tunnels followed by the vampire creatures.
As they enter the caves, beasts from beneath the earth break through the ground grabbing at their paws as they run by. One fairy is caught by its leg and bitten deeply. Her scream of pain causes the beasts to writhe in pain from the cry. The rest of the pack gather around her ripping, snarling and fighting back the dark creatures.
Gabriel drops down with his swords and chops the heads off of those threatening the fairies. He rushes to the injured fairy and slices his palm open dripping his angelic blood onto her paw. The wound begins to glow, and she shifts back to fairy form. He holds his hand over her ripped open leg, and it begins to glow white hot. When he removes his hand, her wound is healed. His black eyes meet her white ones.
“Maybe you do have a use, Angel.” She says and shifts back to a white wolf. He strokes her fur and leaps straight into the air with a smile. Duncan urges them to move further into the tunnels.
Sam joins her gift of sight with the Fairies as they run through the mountain tunnels. She guides them to a secret location.
Duncan looks to Gabriel, “Get back behind the vampires and block their exit. Then drive them to us, forcing them to go where we want them too. The only option for them is to move deeper unless they can move through the rock!”
Deep inside the tunnels, the fairies find themselves pursued into an icy cavern. Puffs of frosty air explode as they pant, out of breath from running. As the cavern fills with vampires and they spread out to attack the pack of enchanted wolves, the fairies gather at the back wall as if preparing to fight. The leader commands, “Now Fae cousins!” With that, the wolves shift back to their fairy form linking their hands and leap straight through the wall of rock behind them.
One of the vampire leaps at the closest fairy, seizing her by her leg, jerking her from her sister’s embrace. They fall on her hungry for blood as her sister’s scream in anguish from another cavern. They are too late to save her.
Sam hears the call of her cousins. Reaching out with her mind she finds Gabriel fighting at the cave entrance. “Quickly, Gabriel cast a shield around the caverns, we don’t want these Fae getting out!” Gabriel closes his eyes and creates a wall of Holy light around the hybrid Fae. As Gabriel rejoins Duncan and Samantha, five demons leap through the shield thinking only of the angel’s blood. They scream in agony as the wall of light burns the skin from their bodies, falling directly in front of Samantha. The pulsing bloody creatures are hungry for blood. They drag themselves towards her grabbing at her feet, she falls screaming as they snarl, scratching at her legs. Duncan leaps forward swinging the sword empowered by the King at the closest one cleaving it from shoulder to hip. He turns quickly severing the heads of the four remaining demons. He looks around for any others trying to escape. The smell of sizzling flesh fills the air as Sam climbs up Duncan into his arms.
Gabriel lands next to Sam and Duncan as he casts a spell filling the cavern with arctic ai
r. The vampire Fae laughs, “I’m sooo cold… We are immortal, fools. Even frozen we will not die!” The leader of the Forest Fairy shifts through the rock to the ice cavern. She stands on the outside of a thick icy wall and stares with hatred at the creature who used to be Fae. “Colder!” She tells Duncan.
The vampires throw themselves at the wall of ice that now lines the inside of the cavern. They scrape and kick, break off rocks in an attempt to escape, to no avail. She stares with her white eyes unblinking and waits until the moment they realize they are freezing.
She steps through the ice wall turning her head in the direction of the first vampire to freeze and screams! He explodes from the power of her voice, showering his brothers in crystalized dust. Smiling larger, she passes back to the outside of the wall and waits. She repeats the process until all within are dead. Then she slips inside the cavern and lifts the remains of her sister’s body and returns with her people to mourn.
“Now let’s block as many tunnels as we can!” Duncan says.
Samantha turns to Duncan, “More are coming!”
“Good we will kill as many as we can and drive them deeper inside to trap them!” Gabriel snarls.
Chapter 22
Reese looks at these beings, the multiple races joining together to fight a common enemy and continues building his power. He will not fail them! He feeds the power to Ariana. She gathers the power and multiplies it. Adding all she can. The power hums as she passes it back to him. His very being vibrates with its intensity. His eyes begin to glow, matching that of his Queens. The first wave of demons attack all at once. They explode from the ground beneath their feet, the woods, the very air itself.
The Shadow King faces the betrayers and his blue eyes flash with a bright flame. He is fast, powerful and deadly. He goes to his shadow form, fading into the background. He makes no sound as he begins his attack. Coming from behind a hybrid he shoves his hand through his back. His fist clamps around the heart and he rips it free. The other attackers only see his chest explode out of his back and watch as his pale skin turns grey. His blood pours like a river down his body. The scent of his blood causes a frenzy, new vampires have little control. They fall on his body like a pack wild dogs, tearing at the body wanting to quench the thirst. Reese draws his sword and begins severing heads, passing from creature to creature.
Ariana is completely surrounded now by hybrid Fae. She plants her feet, drawing on the power of the lava that flows beneath the earth. She weakens the rock below, building a trap.
“What do we call you? Abominations? Demons? Pets?” she asks them. Her eyes glow crimson with the heat of her anger. One swipe at her with his claws only to draw back a burnt nub where his hand once stood. She wields the Khae-tri dagger. His scream causes the others to leap at her only to be sucked into the earth and buried solid like a rock. They use their hands and claws to try and break free.
The Fae enter and wade into the battle surrounding their King and Queen. These are not the Fae of the Vale, but the Elves, Pixies, Leprechauns, Brownies and more that have come to destroy this demonic threat to all races. They join the angels and battle hard.
Reese looks across the field and sees Pixies leap onto the head of one of the vampiric Fae currently buried up to his waist. Laughing, they leap off carrying only his head. Elves surround Ariana, protecting her from other Dark Fae while other creatures take out the remaining buried Fae.
He looks to the sky and finds Morgan fighting for his life. His blood is the goal so they surround him slicing at his wings, face, legs, anything they can reach. One grabs a wing and slices off a corner releasing his angelic blood. The sharp tang of the spilled blood causes the vampires to become blind with a thirst for it. They double their attacks on him, coming from every direction. Even an angel can only fight so many creatures at once. They leap upon him trying to tear more of his wings.
Morgan pulls his wings close, dropping out of the center of attackers, he dives straight at the ground trailing blood behind him. With a scream of rage, his attackers follow.
Desperately, Ariana and the Elves fight off another attack. She calls to her King, “Now Reese?”
“Not yet, wife!” he snaps as he swings his sword separating and arm from a demon in a spray of blood. Looking around at the chaos of battle he yells, “Now!!”
They pour in from the woods and sky. Morgan’s angelic brothers arrive to reinforce them and fall upon the demonic Fae slicing heads with swords of ice and flame. Morgan fights harder empowered by his brother’s arrival; they surround him allowing him time to heal.
Colin watches and waits. He becomes furious as he watches the first wave beaten back. “NO!” he screams looking at the Vampire Lord. “Well?” he asks impatiently.
“A sky full of angelic blood waits for you!” Caius snaps over his shoulder. Smiling he shows his large fangs and leaps into the air followed by his sons of the night. He is going after Morgan. The sky fills with the sounds of combat as the Vampire Lords dark sons fight the angels, and Colin watches with a smile.
“Now the Queen!” He tells his personal guards. “I want her blood spilled at her King’s feet!” he snarls. They step to the side of the mountain and run straight down the side intent upon Ariana. Reese feels them coming and begins to gather his power. He joins his Queen and passes that power to her. She takes it and adds her own continuing to amplify the potent magic.
“Go after him, Reese! I will be okay. He can’t get away again!” Ariana urges. “I can handle this,” she says smiling. Holding up her hand she shows him a small flame hovering above her palm. “My power is growing! They have no idea what I am capable of!”
When he looks into her eyes, he sees a raging flame ready for a target. He kisses her luscious lips. “Not a scratch on that beautiful body, Ariana. I will check every inch of you when I get you alone!” he promises and turns leaving while he can. He runs straight up the side of the Black Mountain jumping from rock to rock. His rage fuels his power as he goes.
“That goes for you too, my King!” she says in his mind. Turning she smiles and greets the Vampiric Fae coming for her. She orders the elves to fall back, along with all the other magical creatures. She shows her intention to Morgan and asks him to cast a shield to protect the ones who have come to fight with them.
She waits until they are almost upon her and she explodes into the air. She shoots like a comet dancing away, she laughs. “Did you forget, my gifts, children? Come and dance with me!” She calls to them as they turn following her.
Caius watches the Angels surround their brother allowing him time to heal. He watches as Morgan is healed by another. He is stunned when he witnesses the process. His blood, it is healing him! It is all the proof he needs to know that he must have it! He takes an army of his vampires with him. His legion are deadly warriors trained to kill. The watered-down half-bloods that attack the Queen would not stand a chance against the archangels that are his targets.
The angels lift their eyes to heaven looking past the threat descending upon them. Standing wing to wing, they cast a shield of protection around every creature of the Light. The Fae, Elves, Fairies, Pixies, all the beings that have come together to fight the darkness, look up when they feel the soft brush of heavenly hands shielding them.
Caius stops the moment he feels it and turns away as fast as he can from the mountain, leaving his sons behind.
Ariana feels the divine touch and the moment she does, she stops in midair. She feels the shared power of her King and Heaven reaching a critical mass where it must be released or perish.
She whispers to their minds, “Brothers, I forgive you and free you from this evil!”
Ariana takes the power humming in her body and catalyzes it, amplifying it. With power pouring out of being, she waits until the Vampiric Fae fall on her in midair. With a flash, she detonates. The concussion from the blast blows all on the ground from their feet as wave after wave of energy explodes across the betrayers incinerating them.
Caius is hi
t by the concussion on the left side of his body and he falls burning to a lake below.
Reese has reached the top of the mountain, finally greeting the leader of this rebellion. He glances to the right drawn by the light and watches horrified as a horde of vampire falls upon Ariana. His scream is swallowed up by the explosion. Reese and Colin are both flattened by the blast. All that remains of the demons, fallen Fae, and vampires are cinders. It drifts down falling like snow over the wounded.
All the protected stand slowly and stare up at the mountain, hearing the sound of Reese’s mournful scream. “Ariana!” his soul screams and he turns, full of rage.
Colin stands slowly and starts laughing. “Ariana!” He screams mockingly. “Finally, the bitch is dead! Uggh! She was hard to kill!” he says pretending to wipe his brow.
“I’ll take all the power that you have, and I will put it to good use. First, I will destroy the Fae, then...”
Reese hears nothing else, except the sound of her voice whisper, “Peace my King, I will wait for you with the wounded. Hurry, I think I have a scratch you need to look at.” Beneath him, he uses his power building pressure in the mountain below.
Without a second thought, he throws a dagger, piercing Colin straight in the throat. “That should shut you up! You are found guilty of, well of every kind of sin,” Reese snaps. Colin rips the dagger free and his blood begins to flow.
“You are judged! The Shadows who joined you, are no more,” he says staring into Colin’s eyes. They now glow red with vampiric blood, his fangs lengthen, and he smiles slowly.
“Surely you didn’t think it would be that easy! What kind of Shadow King works against the Shadows? His own so-called people! They will not tolerate being ignored,” he says leaping at Reese. He slices at his forearms with long black nails, drawing blood and leaping back.
