Kerax tips his horns towards the grounds in a polite bow. “Women,” he growls. “Follow me.”

  SURLOK

Earth is a place full of miracles.

Finding my nera on this lush world was already a momentous shock. And now, I have found Kerax, my long lost older brother! His entire demeanor has changed since I last met him. Back on Kysus, he was always fighting, always growling, always angry.

  And now he looks… happy.

Yes, that’s the word. He’s happy. It’s like meeting a whole new man.

“Come, we are close,” he says, leading the pack. “The humans will not know what they’re in for.”

The trees part to reveal several wooden cabins, clearly built by Kaizon hands. And there he is. My king.

Vukaror stands in the door opening, a child resting in the nook of his arm. Relief floods me as we’re reunited after all this time.

“Brother!” I exclaim loudly as I stride towards him.

“Surlok,” he says with a wide smile. “I didn’t expect to find you here today, brother.”

“Likewise,” I smirk as I bump my horns against his. “Is this…?”

“This is Ka’de,” he says. “My son.”

Kerax told me, but still my eyes grow big with disbelief. “He’s…”

“Half human, yes,” my brother says.

“Amazing. That I get to see a little Kaizon baby in my lifetime… astonishing.”

Vukaror glances over my shoulder at the group of females that are keeping their distance. “Four? You’ve brought four females with you? Is one not enough for you, you insatiable beast?”

A deep frown forms on my face. “What are you implying brother?! Joan is my nera! I would never!”

Vukaror throws his head back and belts out a hearty laugh. “I joke, brother! It’s human humor. You’ll get the hang of it, though it is certainly strange at first. Come, please, tell your friends to come in. There are many people that I’m sure are dying to meet them.”

I wrap my arm around my mate and follow Vukaror into the house. A sense of deep happiness fills me to my very core.

  I am home.

  Epilogue

  JOAN

Life with the Kaizon’s is absolutely amazing. It’s a better life than I ever dared to dream of.

Jade welcomed us all into her family with open arms. There’s four girls here: Jade, Makayla, Dev and Zoey, and every single one of them has been nothing but kind to me and my three friends.

Jade already has a son, a beautiful baby boy called Ka’de. The joy I see when the two parents play with their child makes my heart warm and ovaries rattle in ways I never thought possible. Makayla is already showing, and I’m pretty sure my own little one is coming as well… the thought scares me, but also makes me incredibly happy at the same time.

Jade really has gone out of her way to make us all feel welcome, and now I can honestly say she’s one of my best friends. The bond we now have is unbreakable. Surlok showed me it was okay for me to be vulnerable, and so I have opened up to the girls.

I no longer have to be the leader. Don’t get me wrong, I still get my hands dirty working in the garden, chopping wood and cooking, and I’ve been training all the girls in hand-to-hand combat, but with three massive Kaizon warriors around to keep us all safe, I can finally let my guard down.

And there’s Jip as well to keep us safe; Kerax’s adorable alien-dog. He’s a little intimidating at first, but kindhearted when you get to know him.

Vuka, Kerax and Surlok duke it out in the garden every week. They have their own little Kaizon-style wrestle competition, and watching the colossal aliens go head-to-head is a breathtaking sight, every single time.

Jade had to tell them off only once, when Surlok picked up Kerax and flung him straight through a cabin we’d just spent the better part of a week building. When they get into a frenzy, there’s little reasoning to be had with the aliens, though.

That’s another reason why I don’t mind the fights — afterwards, Surlok practically drags me back to our cabin, every muscle in his body brimming with power. Battle rage, he calls it. And he takes it all out on me. He’s so rough. So powerful. So absolutely dominating.

And I love every second of it.

Surlok spends the rest of his time tinkering with his teleportation device. We scavenged a bunch of supplies at the Old Earth vault, so now he has all the tools he needs to fix it. I love watching him work. He sticks his tongue out of his mouth when he’s concentrating deeply, and it’s the cutest thing ever. I haven’t told him because I don’t want him to stop doing it.

Surlok says the device is nearly repaired, and soon, he’ll be able to open a portal to Kysus, and we can finally meet the rest of his brothers. He’s already conjured a blue sphere several times, through which I can see shadowy figures, but the image cuts out after a few seconds every time.

It’s only a matter of time until my mate gets it right, and he’ll be re-united with all of his brothers.

  I can’t wait.

  Meanwhile, on Kysus…

  FEBAKUR

The chains dig into my limbs.

Hunger and thirst drive me to the point of madness.

  Still, I will never surrender.

The only sensation I haven’t been able to drown out is the sound of wheels rattling over stone. The slab I’m chained to is being wheeled somewhere. Back to the dungeon for more lashes, I assume.

  “Open your eyes, worm.”

That raspy voice can only belong to Ibalen De’Riv. His foul breath makes my skin crawl. The tip of his blade pokes my stomach.

“Do I have to give you more scars?!”

I remain silent, eyes closed, shut off from the world. I haven’t uttered a word since Ibalen captured me at the royal shipyard. It doesn’t matter how many time he cuts me, how many lashes I’m given, how much he starves me.

My love for my family is stronger than anything Ibalen can do to me.

“Fine, worm. If my sword cannot make you speak, perhaps this will!”

Do your worst, traitor. You won’t get anything from me.

“It’s almost ready, just a few more tweaks needed.”

  That.. that voice…

  It’s Surlok.

My eyes snap open. What I see absolutely floors me. We’re in our throne room. Ibalen De’Riv has taken over our ancestral home.

I frantically scan the room for Surlok, Wranar, Drarsan, but they’re nowhere to be found. Good, that means they might still live.

  And yet, I’m sure I heard Surlok…

“Look!” Ibalen roars, as he points to a…

… what am I looking at?! A blue, shimmering circle, like water floating in mid-air… I see shapes, forms, figures… people…

  My mouth goes dry.

  Surlok.

He’s flanked by several females. Alien females. My blood quickens at the sight of them, activating a response I didn’t know my weakened body still possessed.

One catches my eye in particular. Short dark hair, round cheeks, button nose. For a brief second our eyes meet through the blue, shimmering layer, and my two hearts race as if I’ve lightning has struck me.

My strength returns to me in an instant — but then the image fades away, and only the deserted throne room remains.

“This is what your House has been hiding from all the Kaizon,” Ibalen De’Riv thunders, a look of deranged madness on his face. “Females! Fresh females! We’ve raided your labs, we know all about his secret device! Soon, the traitor Surlok will open up a portal back to Kysus, to this very location, and when he does, I will be waiting,” Ibalen snarls. “I will have his head mounted on a spike, and you will watch it all, Febakur. His females will be mine. All of Kysus will see how your family has betrayed us all!”

I ball my fists and slowly test my chains. My strength, renewed by that vision of pure beauty, is already fading away again. I will need all of my power if I am to escape, if I am to s
ave my brother, save the females, save my family.

I need to see her again.

  She will be my salvation.
