The male that had betrayed her mate was now an exile himself. After the tribunal, Pidixa had been stripped of his warrior rank and would not be allowed to return to Luxiria for the rest of his life. Arvalla, his sister, had chosen to leave with him. She’d been loyal to the very end, even choosing to shave her hair along with her brother, and Cara knew that they wouldn’t see either of them again.
It was a relief. That tribunal and its emotional ruling had officially closed that chapter of Devix’s life, allowing a new one to open.
A new chapter for them, with their child, and the many more that would come.
Just then, Cara heard Beven waking in the central hub, making his little sounds. Devix was already working to expand their small home, but until then, their baby was comfy and cozy among his furs and blankets in his living room crib.
With one last kiss, Devix swung his legs over their bed and walked out, completely nude, to retrieve their son. She grinned at the side of his firm, delectable backside, and the scratches she’d accidentally left down his back. That male just did things to her and it was hard to control her reactions around him…
Her heart fluttered a moment later when her mate returned, their baby carefully cradled in his strong arms. Cara pushed up in bed so she could sit with her back to the cushions and she held her arms out.
“There’s my baby boy,” she cooed softly before biting her lip. Sometimes, when she looked at Beven, she just wanted to burst out crying because he was so beautiful, because he made her so happy, made them so happy.
Beven blinked up at her with his brown eyes, so like her own, as Devix gently transferred him into her arms. Her mate climbed back into bed, pulling Cara against his chest so he could hold the both of them. Gently, Cara traced the beginnings of Beven’s horns, which were finally hardening into bone. Up until then, they’d had to be extra careful with him since Devix told her it took time for a Luxirian newborn’s horns to become strong. But finally, they were developing nicely.
Cara kissed his round cheeks as Devix stroked the top of his skull, pride radiating through their blood bond. Devix loved his son with an intensity that matched her own. And every time she saw that love, every time she felt it, all she wanted to do was kiss him and make more babies with him.
Which, eventually, they would get around to.
But until then, Cara would continue working towards her restaurant in her spare time. She’d already created three new recipes, inspired by her favorite foods from Luxiria, and she looked forward to creating even more. One day, she’d get there.
Beven started to fuss, so Cara positioned him at her breast. He was a voracious eater, had already grown so much since he was born. Devix told her that once his teeth came in, he could begin to chew meat, which supposedly, many Luxirian babies could do. It made sense, since all Luxirians seemed to eat was meat and they needed the protein for their strength, but it still baffled the human in Cara.
Immediately, Beven latched onto her nipple and began to feed.
Cara sighed, nestling back into Devix, feeling his warmth and the steady beat of his heart. Devix watched his son suckle at her breast and through their bond, she felt his awe. Cara knew that nothing pleased him more than watching over the both of them.
Cara tilted her head back and her mate caught her lips in a deep kiss. And through their blood bond, she felt everything. Their love, their happiness, their excitement for their future.
She smiled into that kiss as she fed their son.
And sometimes, no words were needed.
