Mesenorié didn’t even blink when we introduced her to three new girls. Instead, she welcomed them to the palace and then assured me, “Líah and I will help them settle in.”

The girls, along with the Goddess, were to remain in Lopéna. I offered my goodbyes beginning with the new acolytes, telling them I was so proud of them, and promising them good lives.
Naddí and Féla were next. They hugged me tightly. “We’ll miss you.”
“I’ll miss you, too.” They were leaving as well, heading back to The Heart of the Goddess. I wished they could stay to watch over the girls, although I knew they couldn't be safer in the palace.
I knelt down to the girls, pulling them into hugs. It was very hard to let go. “You’ll have a new sister the next time I see you.”
They promised to be good; I knew they would.
Tradódid and Mesenorié were next. Tradódid kissed my cheek and told me he loved me. Mesenorié kissed my cheek and promised to take care of the girls.
The Goddess was last. For years, she had accompanied me to the border, but she’d be staying in Lopéna this trip. I held her tightly, not saying anything. But she whispered into my ear, “I love you so much, my girl of The Hippa.”
Two minutes later I was atop Zana, who seemed upset that Yahamala wasn’t coming with. But she was a good girl, and she carried me away from many of the people I loved.

A writer by avocation, Robin has a renaissance interest in many areas. A bit of a gypsy, Robin has called a few places home and has traveled widely.
