Becca nodded. It was hard to contain her grin. “I wanted to steal you away, too.”
Faith snaked their arms together and they started walking up the street toward the diner and coffee shop. They always walked like that as kids. It felt right, being tangled together. They even had their own words and phrases that didn’t need completing to understand. They were so different in their personalities, but they were on the same wavelength.
She was hoping she carried twins. They ran in both families, so it was a possibility.
Faith’s words brought her out of her thoughts.
“Tommy and I are pregnant.”
Becca’s eyes flew wide and she pulled them to a stop. “Shut up! You talked to Nolan, didn’t you? He couldn’t keep his mouth closed. I’m going to skin him alive.”
Her sister’s mouth dropped open. “You’re not saying… Becks, are you two…? Really?”
“Hey, we came into this world at the same time. We might as well make new life together, too.” She reached forward and placed a hand on her sister’s stomach. Faith did the same, and they shared a matching, almost but not quite identical, smile. “I hope we both don’t have twins. Two is going to be enough. Four? This town isn’t ready.”
“As if they’re ready for one mini-Becca.” Faith bumped their shoulders together after they started back up the street. “I’m proud of you, Becks. You’ve come a long way in a year.”
“It’s funny. All I wanted was to get out of Bearden. And now here I am, happier than I’ve ever been. I’m going to be a mom! Man, this kid is going to be so screwed up.”
“But probably the coolest little monster on the playground, so she’ll have that going for her.”
“Or him.”
“Or him,” Faith conceded. Her smile widened as she caught sight of Tommy approaching.
Becca’s smile wasn’t far behind. Nolan headed her way, crossing the street from the firehouse where his shift was about to start. As soon as their eyes met, a grin split his face. Heat snaked up and down her body and she melted at the sight of his dimple flashing just for her.
She’d taken the long way around, but she finally found her place in the world.
