‘You ready, Paul?’
‘Course I am. I’ll carry that. And don’t forget your roses.’
‘I won’t. Right then. We’ll see you tomorrow, perhaps. Bye then.’
The family all stood round saying their goodbyes until they had finally left the house. Jimmy came out behind them and reached over for Ruth’s hand.
‘Have your meal on me,’ he said pressing a note into her hand. ‘Bye then.’
‘Bye love. And thanks again for your part in all this.’
‘Are you ready then, Mrs Jenkins?’
‘I’m more than ready, Mr Jenkins.’
They walked along the road and through the little alleyway to their flat.
