Raising Sera- Lineage

A beam of light flashed out in front of him.
He slumped to his feet and shaded his face with his palm. A portal appeared and a massive, futuristic transport emerged. It brandished the name, Quantum Corp, on the side of the hull. The ship crashed with a resounding thud.
An energy wave pulsated towards him. Bernard looked back at his vehicle. He hobbled backward but stumbled in the sand.
He pulled at his mechanical leg.
“NO!” he yelled out, flailing his arms. “Somebody ... HELP ME!”
The sand swallowed his body and covered his chest. A dark ominous hand appeared. It reached down for Bernard and pulled him up. Bernard looked up at the man. A young boy stood next to the him.
The child was silent. He hung his head low.
“Seems like we both hit...” a voice spoke. “...a stroke of luck!”
Bernard stared back at the man. He hesitated to respond as he dusted the sand off his pants. Clearing his throat, he reached out his hand in appreciation.
“Thank you, I guess...”
“You question?” the man replied.
“I’m sorry.”
Bernard dust his hands then extended it again.
“Thank you, Dr. Belmont!”
Dr. Belmont looked at Bernard’s hand. As a slight grin traveled his face, he extended his phantom arm.
Bernard cleared his throat again. He jolted his hand back.
“Doctor-” Bernard uttered.
“Bernard,” Belmont replied.
“You know my name?”
“Why wouldn’t I!” the doctor laughed. “A man of your skill is hard to go unnoticed.”
They both looked at the beguiled ship.
“Are you going to kill me?” Bernard blurted.
Dr. Belmont smiled.
“Why would I do a thing like that?”
Bernard looked at the small boy’s wrist. He swallowed his throat as he saw it was amputated.
“Why go through the trouble...” Bernard uttered. “You must want something then.”
Dr. Belmont placed his phantom hand on Bernard’s shoulder. He smiled at Bernard then turned to the boy.
“I do, Bernard... I do.”
Bernard looked down at the kid.
“For saving your life, the price of that debt is simple...”
The doctor extended his arm and patted the kid on his back. He grabbed the boy by his chin.
“You can see, Bernard, my friend here could use your help.”
The young boy stared at Bernard. His eyes were black and ominous.
Bernard covered his mouth.
“What’s wrong with him?” Bernard muttered.
“Everything...” the doctor replied with a smile. “Ain’t that right, Damien.”
