  “Promise?” she asked.

“I promise,” he lied. He knew he had no way to make sure she stayed safe, but he wasn’t going to let her think that he didn’t have this situation under control.

Sucre was intimidating, but he wasn’t going to let the man or any of his cronies touch her. As long as he had breath in his lungs, he would do everything in his power to make sure she was safe and sound.

  Or he would die trying.

  Chapter Seventeen

“Are you sure you’re okay? It seems like there’s something on your mind,” Jules said when they got inside the car. She had sensed from the moment those men had walked up to them at the restaurant that Trevor didn’t want her to be around them, so she had excused herself to go to the restroom.

Of course, she hadn’t done anything but fix her eyeliner and stare in the mirror, wondering what it could be he was involved in. Being the lawyer she was, she knew that there were bad things going on behind the scenes in the city, and she had no doubt he was caught up with something of that nature.

There was a small part of her that worried he wouldn’t come to her for fear she would turn him in, but there was another part of her that was convinced he was a good guy, and he wouldn’t have come by his money through ill means.

Yet, with the people she knew these days, it was hard to say.

“I’m fine. I told you I’m just tired from the day at the office. It’s not like you and I got home at a decent hour last night or anything,” he said, grinning at her. She smiled in return. He did have a point.

Jules didn’t remember what time it was by the time they headed back for the night, but it was certainly much later than she was used to being up. She had felt like she was a zombie most of the day.

“You just seem like you have something on your mind is all. I mean, you have to give it to me, I can read you better than you’d like to admit,” she teased. Trevor looked over in her direction with another smile.

“I will give you that,” he agreed. “Say, did I ever tell you how I made this car?” he asked, changing the subject.

“You said that your father helped you, but you didn’t really go into all the finer details. As I remember, we were talking about other things when the car came up, and you seemed like you were using it as more of a cover-up. Kind of like now.” She looked at him with raised eyebrows, but he avoided her question. It was growing ever clearer to her he didn’t want to talk about whatever it was that was on his mind, and she knew pushing it wasn’t going to help the matter.

“Well, let me tell you how it actually came to be, because you aren’t going to find another vehicle like this on the planet,” he said with a sly smile. She looked at him with expectation in her eyes, and Trevor started at the beginning.

For the first time in his life, he admitted to a woman that he had built his empire from the ground up. He didn’t come from wealth; it was all something that he had to start from scratch and build on. And build on it, he did. He explained to her how hard he worked through school, and how he had landed his first million by the end of the first year on his own.

“You wouldn’t believe the look on my dad’s face when I came home with all the parts that we needed to finish this thing. I mean, he knew that I was going in for business, but I didn’t tell him how well I was doing until I finally landed the gigs I needed.” He smiled once more, and Jules couldn’t believe how much he was opening up to her.

All of a sudden, this was a man who was proud of his car. It didn’t matter all the other things that were going on in their lives. All that mattered was the moment. He was proud of what he had done, and he was pleased to share it with her.

“I bet your father was thrilled when he got to hear it run for the first time,” she said with another smile. She wanted to show interest in the car, but it had never been anything she had found overly interesting.

“Oh, baby, you have no idea. He acted like it was the first time he’d seen a vehicle in his life. It was amazing.” He laughed and she shook her head.

“I’ll never understand these things, myself,” she said with a smile. The look he gave her told her he didn’t care, as long as they were happy together.

They pulled up in front of his house, and she once again felt a twinge of uncertainty run through her. She didn’t understand why he wouldn’t open up to her about the trouble he was in when he would tell her about his past like that, and she didn’t know how to bring it up once more.

  She had an idea.

“You know, I’m a lawyer,” she said with a tentative smile. He looked at her with raised eyebrows.

“You did make mention of that before,” he said. He clearly didn’t understand where she was going with her story, but she didn’t mind.

“I mean, I can help you. I know detectives and other lawyers and judges. It doesn’t matter who they are, I can help!” she continued. She observed his face as she spoke, hoping to find some hint of he was really thinking about the situation.

“I appreciate you wanting to help me, but I really wish you wouldn’t. I don’t want you to be anywhere near those kinds of people. Besides, I have a plan. Just trust me on this, I know what I’m doing,” he replied firmly. They were in his house now, and Jules looked around.

There was a tension in her chest, and she knew it was because she was feeling frustrated with him. She didn’t want to be controlling or nagging, she wanted to help. She knew she could help him, if he would just let her.

But he wasn’t letting her. All at once, she stiffened. She hadn’t heard him come into the bedroom behind her, and he ran his hands up her stomach toward her breasts.

“I have everything under control, and I’m going to take care of you. I promised, didn’t I?” he whispered in her ear. She felt a shiver run through her body. There was something so captivating and sexy about him, she could hardly contain herself.

She turned around in his arms, pressing her lips to his. With a playful shove, he had her on the bed, falling on top of her. He caught himself with his arm, so he didn’t land on her entirely, but they never broke their kiss.

Jules began tearing at his clothes with an urgency she had only felt once before: the night before. She had to get them off him as soon as possible. She first pulled off his shirt, then his jeans, while at the same time he tore her clothing from her body as well.

She was in nothing but her little lace bra when he turned her around on the bed.

“I need to have you from behind,” he whispered hoarsely. “I need to be as deep inside you as I can get.”

“Please, take me deep,” she breathed, her voice low with the desire she felt for him. She was on her knees on the bed, and she put her hands on the headboard once again, raising her ass in the air.

He grabbed her hips, holding her steady as he rubbed his dick between her legs, causing her to get wet immediately. She moaned and closed her eyes, pushing back from the wall and wrapping her arms around his neck. She looked over her shoulder and their lips met once more, but he didn’t wait any longer.

With a gentle yet firm push, he entered her, sliding all the way in, as deep as possible. She gasped with pleasure at the sensation of his thick cock filling her completely, and he began thrusting into her, holding her steady with each pump.

She was moaning and grinding her ass back against him, taking him as deep as her pussy would allow. He reached around the front of her, massaging her clit with his fingers. She cried out in pleasure as her orgasm took over, sending new shockwaves of pleasure throughout her entire body.

“Does that feel good, baby?” he murmured into her ear as he continued to rub her wet, sensitive bud.

“God, yes,” she moaned, eyes half shut in pleasure.

  * * *

“Tell me louder,” he grunted as he slammed into her, “tell me if that feels good.”

“Yes,” she cried, gripping the headboard so hard her fingers turned white.

“Louder,” he ordered, lightly slapping her ass cheek
with one hand while pinching her clit with the other.

“Fuck, yes!” she screamed as she felt another orgasm take over her.

“Yes, baby,” he groaned, pumping into her faster and harder, “fuck, that’s good.”

“Come for me. I need you to fill me up,” she whispered once her second orgasm had subsided. He was holding her hips firmly with his hands, thrusting into her faster than ever now. He continued to pump into her, small moans escaping from his lips as he did so. She was still writhing under him, her ass pressed into his body as hard as she could.

She loved the feeling of his body colliding with hers. There was nothing that could come between them. Nothing that could take them from each other. He held her with a newfound strength, pumping himself into her now harder than ever, so hard it almost hurt, but it was a good kind of pain. It was delicious and dirty.

He let out a moan and she felt his cock twitch and jump inside her, and there was a new warmth that spread through her as he filled her with his load. As the last few spurts of seed filled her up, she leaned back against him and nearly sat on his lap.

Having him fill her was the best feeling in the world, and she wished it would never end. She didn’t want him to pull out of her. She didn’t like the feeling when he was gone.

  She had to have him.

Nothing else would ever be good enough again. It had to be Trevor, and only Trevor.

She had no doubt in her mind about that.

  Chapter Eighteen

“What a show! What a show!” Allen Winter mingled throughout the crowd, beaming about the film they had just finished. It wasn’t a movie. It was a documentary on how well they had been doing over the years.

There was big business in casinos, and it was clear most of the men in the room were nearly to the top as it was, and still climbing. It seemed nothing would ever be able to stop any of them, and they knew it.

It was the night of the final voting at the Alabaster Club, and Trevor walked nervously among those who had gathered in the room. He didn’t know if there was anything he could be doing to increase his chances of getting in, but at the same time, he didn’t want to press the matter when it didn’t need to be.

“There you are! I’ve been looking for you,” Allen said when he and Trevor finally crossed paths.

“What do you need from me?” Trevor asked, not bothering with niceties.

“You never are subtle about things, are you?” Allen replied with a smirk. “I like that.”

“Just tell me what you need,” Trevor pressed. If there was one thing about Allen, it was that he could spend the night telling Trevor he had something to say without ever saying it.

“Now, now, now, hold your horses. Everything is just fine,” he said with a laugh.

Trevor found himself relaxing a little, but not much. He found that he couldn’t relax completely these days.

“The voting is taking place in the other room as we speak, and you’ll know within the hour if you’re in or not,” he said, his voice low and leaning in toward Trevor. Trevor looked over his shoulder. He hadn’t noticed any of the bosses leave the room, but now that he was scanning the room, he could see that they had.

“I thought I would be in there for that,” he said, his tone also low.

Allen shook his head. “You know how they work. They don’t like to have anyone watching, no matter what they’re doing. But don’t worry. You’re going to be told what’s happening as soon as they know.” He looked like he was going to continue when Mr. Black stepped out into the room.

“Mr. Strome, if I might have a word with you,” he said. Several of the other members of the party looked over, but no one was interested enough to stop what they were doing. Either he was in, or he was out. He would find out and he would be taken care of accordingly; it had nothing to do with anyone else.

Trevor walked over to Mr. Black with a courteous smile, and the two men started for the door. He was being followed by Mr. Black’s bodyguards, and Trevor briefly wondered if the day would come when he, too, would have a set of his own.

“I wanted to be the first to welcome you into the club,” he said when they were outside. Trevor looked at him with a surprised grin on his face.

  “So, I’m in?” he asked.

“You are so much more than in, my boy—you got in without hardly a hiccup with the voting. It seems you are well-respected here. I don’t know what you did, but keep doing it.” He laughed at his own joke, and Trevor joined in. He glanced back at the bodyguards. They were both standing a short distance away, but it didn’t seem that anything could amuse them.

“I apologize for being forward, but now that I’m in the club, I am hoping that I can speak a little more freely than before,” Trevor said. He lowered his voice so the other men couldn’t hear him, and he could see by their expressions they didn’t like it one bit.

They were both wearing dark sunglasses, in spite of the fact it was night, and they were speaking to each other in a tone so low he couldn’t hear what they were saying either.

“Speak freely,” Mr. Black said, raising his eyebrows in curiosity.

“I think there is something up with your bodyguards. I don’t want to stir up trouble where there isn’t any, but have you noticed the way they are behaving?” He discreetly nodded toward them, but Mr. Black didn’t turn.

“Don’t give yourself away,” he muttered. Trevor looked at Mr. Black for a split second, but at that moment, he saw one of the men reach into his jacket out of the corner of his eye. Trevor didn’t hesitate. He knew what was going to happen next, and he was going to do anything in his power to keep it from coming.

He charged straight for the man at top speed, and right as he pulled the gun out of his jacket, Trevor hit him with full force. The second man tried to get involved, but Trevor was already prepared for it.

He swung his fist, hitting the man square in the jaw. He fell back over his feet, hitting the ground hard. Trevor didn’t wait for him to have the chance to get back up. He leapt on top of the man and started pounding his face with his fists.

He was in such a frenzy, he didn’t notice when the other men were pouring out of the building, heading in their direction. It was only when Allen yanked him off the limp body that he realized he was still hitting the guy.

“You’re a little fresh to be beating people to death with your fists,” he said with a nervous laugh.

Trevor shook his throbbing, bloody fists. “I don’t mess with people for no reason, Allen,” he said grimly. “I saw them draw their weapons without provocation and just reacted. I am positive they were targeting Mr. Black.”

One of the other men was checking on the injured bodyguards, then he shook his head. “They’ll survive this night, but I think something should be done about what they were trying to do, if you catch what I mean.” He looked up at Mr. Black, who nodded.

“Take them back inside, we’ll talk about it shortly.” He pointed toward the club and the men obeyed. Soon, it was just Trevor and Mr. Black standing outside once more.

“That was quick thinking, and for that, I am thankful,” he told Trevor.

Trevor nodded and shrugged. “I guess the time I spend in the gym paid off.”

“Mr. Strome, it has come to my attention that you’ve been harassed by a few men down there recently.”

“You could say that,” Trevor replied. He didn’t know how he was going to bring it up. He didn’t know how the men ranked within the Mafia, or how Mr. Black would take the situation.

“Well, rest assured I’ve been made aware of the issue, and I’m going to make sure you aren’t bothered by them again. I’m putting a stop to that tonight.” He was looking down the road, and Trevor felt his heart skip a beat.

This was the help he needed but didn’t know how to ask for. This was going to change everything for him. This could be the one thing he had been waiting his entire life for, and it was being offered to him at that very moment—and he hadn’t done anything to deserve
it.

“I would sure appreciate that, sir,” he said with a grateful smile. He was looking down the road as well, mimicking the man’s actions.

Mr. Black smiled as he turned back to Trevor. He held out his hand and gave Trevor a single, firm handshake.

“Consider it done, my friend,” he said. “Consider it done.”

  Chapter Nineteen

Trevor burst through the doors of his office, his heart pounding in his chest. He couldn’t remember the last time he had been so happy, and he wanted to share it with the world.

Well, he wanted to share it with his world.

Knowing that Jules would be safe and that he wouldn’t have to worry about Sucre any longer changed his entire life, and he didn’t know where to even begin with the newfound energy he had. He wanted to get things done. He wanted to show the world what he could do.

He wanted to travel and make more business agreements, and he wanted to share it all with Jules.

“Theresa! You’re looking gorgeous today! Would you do me a favor? I want you to send a bouquet of flowers to this address, and I want you to request that this note accompany it.” He flipped through the screen on his phone as he spoke, and she looked first at the screen, then at him.

“You’re going to have to write that address down for me, Trevor, dear,” she said with a bemused smile. She did her best to look annoyed, but it was clear she was merely teasing him.

“Looks to me like someone is finally getting their claws in your life. What’re you going to do about that? We don’t want you going and getting yourself attached and all,” she teased.

Trevor gave her a look, then laughed. “Sadly, I think I might already be attached. I can’t be too sure, however; you’ll have to let me know if you think I’m acting different than normal.” He turned to head back into his office when she stopped him.

“I hate to tell you this, but you are definitely acting differently than normal,” she said with raised eyebrows. There was a faint smile playing at the corners of her lips, and he shook his head. Trevor didn’t mind when she teased him, especially feeling as he was that day.
