He was on top of the world, and he didn’t see any way the day could get better. Nothing was going to bring him down, and he knew it.

Suddenly, a man burst into the room, not bothering to close the door behind him. Trevor recognized him as one of Sucre’s two men, but with the bloody nose and the black eye, it was clear he had been roughed up by someone.

Or perhaps an entire group of men.

The limping man did his best to stand tall as he walked over to the desk and set a card down. Trevor glanced down at it and immediately recognized it as the card with Jules’ information on it. Fear flashed through his body immediately. Were they still in danger?

“I am here to give you our deepest apologies, and I assure you no one is going to be bothered by any of us again. Sucre also wants to let you know that he’s not going to do anything to your property, and he’s not going to touch that girl.” The man looked down at the floor as he spoke, and it was clear he was very uncomfortable with the situation.

Trevor breathed out slowly, his heart rate slowing back down. Theresa and Trevor shot each other a look, but he turned his attention back to the man. The man took a half step backward, his eyes filled with terror. It was clear whatever had happened to him, he had been told many times he wasn’t going to do anything to Trevor or anyone close to him.

“If you are satisfied, will you please tell my boss so, the next time you see him? If there is anything I can do to make you satisfied, please tell me; your wish is my command,” the man muttered. He looked around the room, clearly lost without his two men with him.

“I’ll tell your boss that I’m satisfied if you can promise me we are never going to see each other again,” Trevor said curtly. “Nowhere. Not even a random chance meeting on the street.”

The man shook his head violently, wincing as he gingerly touched his nose.

“You aren’t ever going to see me again. I will make sure of that, I promise you. You aren’t going to see me again!” He spoke with passion, and Trevor took another step toward him. He took a full step back this time, and Trevor smirked.

He could get used to people treating him like he was worth being feared. Perhaps joining forces with the Mafia boss was one of the better decisions he had made in his life.

“Good. Now get out of here. I don’t want to see your sorry ass anywhere around this building or even in town, for that matter. You pack up your things and get out of here. That’s the last I want to see you!” Trevor pointed toward the door and the man hurried toward it.

“Absolutely, sir. You aren’t going to see me again, that’s a promise!”

He was gone before Trevor had the chance to say anything else, and once the two of them were alone again, Trevor and Theresa gave each other another look.

“What the hell was that?” Theresa asked in shock. She had never seen such a thing, especially with Trevor. “What have you been up to since last week?”

“Oh, Theresa, you know me. I’m always doing something worth doing. Anyway, I want you to get those flowers out this morning, please. I want her to get them as soon as possible.”

He didn’t wait for her to reply. Whistling a tune to himself, he walked into his office and closed the door, putting his feet up on his desk once he sat down.

He was no longer the Trevor who feared what was coming his way. He had shown life he was in control, and he was going to continue with that feeling for as long as he lived.

He was the king of his own world. And he wanted to share it with the woman who was quickly claiming his heart.

He wanted to give her everything.

  Chapter Twenty

“What do you mean there’s someone here to see me?” Jules asked as she got up from her seat. She was trying to get through the last of the files on the computer before the weekend, and she didn’t have the time for any interruptions.

It was hard enough to work, with her mind wrapped up with Trevor and their steamy nights together. I didn’t matter what she did, every turn she made she thought about him. She wondered what he was doing, she wondered if he was thinking about her, and most of all, she wondered if he missed her.

The more she tried not to think about him, the more of her thoughts he consumed. She wasn’t annoyed by it, but it did make it nearly impossible for her to get anything productive done.

All she wanted to do was be with him, and she hoped she’d be able to spend more time together this weekend than just a night here and there. She wanted nothing more than to spend time with him, making love and enjoying each other’s company in solitude.

Jules stopped short when she reached the front desk. The man waiting for her held a large bouquet of flowers, and he handed them to her with a note.

“These were sent special order for you, ma’am. Enjoy,” he said with a smile. She took the flowers and buried her face in them. It had been years since anyone had bought her flowers, and she didn’t know what to think.

Of course, she knew they had come from Trevor, but that didn’t stop her from devouring the note as soon as she could get it open.

Thinking of you always and hoping your day is as beautiful as you are.

She blushed. She wasn’t at all a giddy kind of woman, but there was something about the way Trevor treated her that brought out the squealy girly-girl in her. She buried her face in the flowers once more, taking in the aroma of the roses and exhaling again slowly.

She loved the smell of roses, and the fact Trevor had thought about her and sent them her way was more than she could have asked for. For the first time since her ex, she wondered if this was what love truly felt like.

She took the flowers back to her desk, but they made it even harder for her to concentrate on what she was doing. She wanted to see Trevor more than anything, and it was going to be hard for her to wait.

When the call came for her that someone was waiting for her up front once again, she sighed and groaned. One of her clients had told her he would stop by this week, but couldn’t commit to an exact day or time. She cursed at the client internally as she got up from her desk once more. She wanted to get out of the office as soon as possible. The sooner she was done for the day, the sooner she could go to the gym and most likely meet with Trevor.

Sure, she could text him when she was off and find out what he was doing, but it was more fun when they ran into each other randomly. It only proved to her that both thought alike more than either of them wanted to admit.

She stopped short when she reached the front desk for the second time in ten minutes. Instead of her client waiting anxiously for her, Trevor himself was standing there.

“I thought you might like to go to lunch,” he said with a hopeful smile.

“I’ll grab my jacket,” she said without a moment of hesitation. Suddenly, everything that was staring at her on her desk could wait. Now, she wanted to spend time with the man she knew she was falling in love with.

  That was all that mattered.

“I thought you might want to go with me on this little trip I’m taking this weekend,” Trevor said as the waiter brought their food out and set it in front of them. She looked up at him in surprise.

“I didn’t know you had any houses in Mexico,” she said with raised eyebrows. He waived his hand and shook his head.

“It’s not mine per se, but I’ve been invited down there on business, and of course I’m going to go. I didn’t want you to miss out on this chance to get into Mexico for free—staying at a private mansion and even taking a private jet,” he said with a wink.

“Where did you get all these things? Never mind, I don’t want to know,” she said after a laugh. He joined in with her chuckle and shook his head.

“I told you I was trying to get in with a club. They let me in, and I guess there are some perks of knowing the people? I don’t know how you would want to describe it, but you might say they know how to treat their members well.” Trevor took a sip of his wine and she looked at him with wide eyes.

  “So, when does th
is private jet leave?” she asked and he smiled. He took his time swallowing the wine, then he wiped his mouth with his cloth napkin.

“Bright and early tomorrow morning. Six, I believe.” He winked at her once more, and she blushed. Jules suddenly no longer cared about prioritizing her work.

She had chosen her job over a man before, and she was never going to let that happen again. Even if her firm looked down upon her actions, she wouldn’t let that faze her. She wasn’t going to make the same mistake again. Jules knew she wanted to be with him, and he could take care of her. All the work that she did from now on was going to be only because she wanted to do it.

“Alright then, Mr. Strome, I think that sounds like a lovely vacation. I’m going to check in with my firm and let them know I’m not coming back this afternoon—or even for the next few days. I’m going to start my long weekend now, I think.” She smiled triumphantly, thinking about all the passive aggressive emails she would receive and, for once, not giving a shit about them.

“I think that’s a great idea. We can go back over to your place after lunch and you can pack, though you’re not going to need much.” He was sipping on his wine once more, and she nodded.

“I usually pack light. All I’m going to need are the few things that I don’t think they’ll have set out at the mansion. I need clothes too,” she added with a laugh. Trevor gave her a look for a moment and he shook his head.

“All you need to bring is your bikini, a little nightie, and your toothbrush. I’ll take care of everything else.” He grinned at her and she smiled, feeling the blush take over her face. She didn’t mind anymore. She felt comfortable enough to blush in front of him, and she knew he thought it was adorable when she did.

“Alright then, let’s finish up here quickly so we can get out of here,” she said with a mischievous twinkle in her eyes.

He took the last swallow of his wine and looked at her with an equally naughty grin. They both knew they were going to make love when they got back to her place that afternoon. It was just as amazing as the first two times, and they made love again when they got to his place that night. They couldn’t get enough of each other.

And, if Jules had her way, they would be making love long into the weekend. For every breath she took, she wanted to have Trevor to herself.

She needed him. He was becoming more to her than she ever thought possible, and for the first time in her life, she was glad things hadn’t worked out with her ex.

She was on to bigger and better things. He was married and happy, and she had found the love of her life.

  Nothing could touch her now.

  Chapter Twenty-One

“Are you ready to go home?” Trevor whispered in Jules’ ear. They were standing on the balcony overlooking the sea. Jules had had a great time in Mexico, and she felt well-rested, ready to face what life had to throw her way once again.

“I’m ready as long as you’re going to be there,” she said with a smile. Trevor was standing behind her, his arms wrapped around her and his fingers intertwined with hers over her stomach. He rested his chin on her shoulder, speaking directly into her ear.

“Of course I’m going to be there; where else would I be?” he said with a small chuckle. She looked at him as best she could, giving him the sincerest look she could muster.

“I don’t know, but I want to go with you wherever it might be. I don’t care what you are dealing with in life, I want to do it with you. From now on, I am going to be by your side, no matter what. I promise.” She didn’t know why she had to tell him right then, but it was so important that she did.

She had to let him know that she was on his side, no matter what came their way. She didn’t know much about his life, even now, but she knew that they could build a beautiful life together, no matter what.

She was willing to put in the work to make it happen. And, for the first time in her life, she was ready to commit to a single person, no matter how hard things got.

Trevor was silent for a moment, and she could sense he was thinking about what she had said. He was gently running his fingers over hers as they stood together, until at last, he spoke.

“I love you,” he whispered in her ear. She felt her heart skip a beat at the words. She knew it to be true, but hearing him say it made her shiver with excitement.

“I love you too, so much,” she whispered back. It was the first time they had uttered those words to each other, and Jules knew without a doubt she wanted to spend the rest of her life with Trevor.

It might not be an easy life, and it might not always be safe, but together, they could face anything, and she knew it. She would tell him every day of her life she loved him, and she would mean it every single time.

Jules had found her happiness, and it was with Trevor.

And it was meant to last a lifetime.
