“Maybe I will be soon enough, who knows.” She blushed as she spoke. “Maybe I’ll be a super star.”
“I bet you will.”
But that was all the time that I got with Lindsey because the kids wanted her. They finished eating and pulled her into some game instead leaving me to do all the clearing up. I didn’t care though.
“She’s great, your girl,” Jo, one of the other volunteers commented beside me as she grabbed some plates. “They all ask for her when she isn’t here.”
“I remember the days when they all used to ask for me,” I teased. “But yeah, she’s great. Really great.”
“I hope you’re going to keep her around forever.” She winked at me as she walked into the kitchen. “Or you’ll have a lot of explaining to do.”
That left me thoughtful as she walked away. I really did want to keep Lindsey around forever. Not just for the kids, but for me, too. Mom had been right about her: Lindsey was the perfect one for me and I needed to find a way to keep her around. I wanted her in my home, in my life, in my heart forever. I felt like Lindsey probably felt the same way, but I needed to find out for sure.
Tonight would be the night when I finally told her that I loved her…

“So how are you?” I asked Lindsey with a smile as we walked into my home. “I haven’t had much time to talk to you today really.”
“No, I know. I thought that might happen when I came in wearing my costume. Sorry about that.” She gave me a one-shouldered shrug. “I wasn’t thinking about you then, I was thinking about the kids and the kick that they’d get out of it.”
“Well, it worked. They loved it alright.” I moved into the kitchen and grabbed two wine glasses. “Would you like me to sort out some drinks? I’m sure you’re keen to get changed out of that now?”
“Oh yeah, I would. Do I still have some stuff here?”
“Actually.” I smiled to myself. “I cleared out a drawer for all your stuff because it was scattered everywhere. I hope that’s okay.”
Her eyes nearly bugged out of her head. “Really? That’s…serious. Are you sure?”
I grabbed her and spun her round before bringing my lips down to hers hard. “Of course,” I murmured against her mouth. “I don’t mind. I wouldn’t have done it otherwise. I would’ve just boxed it all up and told you to take it away.”
“Mm, yeah, I suppose you’re right.” She squeezed my butt playfully before moving away, showing her true comfort with me now. It felt like all the confusion with our feelings for one another was long gone. We were just yet to vocalize it. “Right, I’ll go and get changed, you get the wine ready.”
As she moved away from me and stalked towards the stairs, I couldn’t help watching her leave. Even in that heavy outfit that almost drowned her, she looked incredible. She was gorgeous and I was lucky to have her, especially since I hadn’t always treated her right. That was something that I wanted to fix now. I wanted to spend every day for the rest of my life, or for at least as long as she would have me, making up for what I’d done. I knew that I was lucky for this second chance, I didn’t want to fuck it up.
“Wow, you look even better,” I declared as she came back down the stairs in a flowing night dress, one that was black with a Chinese-style design across it that hung just below her knees. “I did like the Victorian look, but this is better.”
Lindsey didn’t answer me, she simply sat across from me with a thoughtful look on her face. As she took a sip of her wine, I could tell that she was trying to work out how to say whatever needed to be said.
“Erm, Adam?” She couldn’t even look at me, her eyes fixed on the floor below her. “Do you mind if I say something? I don’t want to upset you, or interfere, I just want to ask you something.”
It was going to be something related to my family, I could just tell. I breathed deeply and tried to steel myself, although actually I found that I didn’t mind as much as I once did. “Yeah sure, what is it?”
“I was just wondering, what’s happening with you father and brother now?”
I clasped my hands together and furrowed my eyebrows. “What do you mean?”
“Well, I thought that…” She breathed deeply, it looked like panic might be floating through her. “That things might be looking up. Like, things looked much better with your father, and I even saw you talking nicely to Brandon, too. I just wondered if that was something you wanted to work on. I’m not jumping in the middle of anything. I just wanted to know…”
That was what Mom wanted. I hadn’t forgotten her last request to me, and to be honest, I wanted it, too. The petty rivalry with Brandon didn’t seem anywhere near as important as it did before… But I was a bit overwhelmed and I didn’t know where to begin. A month had passed now, and we’d all sort of drifted apart.
“I want to,” I admitted. “I do, I just don’t know what I should do.”
Lindsey rested her hand over mine and smiled warmly at me. “You just need to call them. Contact your father and arrange a meeting with all of you. Hash things out and be honest – that means you be honest, too. Tell them how they’ve made you feel and also tell them that you volunteer at the orphanage. Let them get to know you, you know?”
“How do you make things sound so simple?” I asked her with a weak smile. “In my head, everything gets so complicated and messed up, and you make it seem so easy. I don’t understand it.”
“I’ve got an outsider perspective, that’s all. And, I know for a fact that you can make this right. It might not be an easy journey and there will probably be some bumps along the road, but you’ll get there. Together.”
I leaned across and kissed her gently, losing myself in the plumpness of her lips for just a moment. “You know I couldn’t have done any of this without you. You’re like an angel.”
“I’m just glad I can do anything.” Her hands worked their way up into my hair and the feel of her fingers brushing against my scalp was heavenly. “Sometimes I feel so useless.”
“That’s the last thing you are. You’re the opposite of useless.” I bit down on my bottom lip, pausing for just a second before the words finally flew out of my mouth, setting my emotions free. “Lindsey, I love you, I really do.”
Chapter Thirty-Eight
Lindsey
Same day
“You…you love me?” I stammered in shock. “Really?” My hand clutched to my chest, I could hardly believe it. I knew how I felt about him, but I wasn’t sure he felt the same way and I sure as hell didn’t think he was in a position to vocalize that. Not while he was so emotional, and certainly not after I just intervened in his family stuff again. “That’s amazing.”
He gave me a loving look, and I fell into that for a moment, I swam in his eyes loving the way they enveloped me in an intense warmth. My arms wrapped around me, and I twirled my hips from side to side in a playfully manner. I felt free and excitable.
“I love you, too, you know,” I whispered back. “I’ve loved you for a very long time.”
Adam put down his glass, so I did the same thing, and the next thing we were in one another’s arms. This was a place that once held so much risk, it scared me and made me question absolutely everything that I was doing, but now it was safe, it was my home. I loved being next to him. He had very rapidly become absolutely everything to me.
“That isn’t it, you know,” he murmured above my head. “I have something else that I want to ask you.” My back stiffened and I tilted my eyes up to look at him. “I don’t mean now, I mean whenever you want, but just know that I’m ready whenever you are…”
“What’s going on?” I demanded as his face turned into a weird white shade of fear. I gripped onto him tighter and stared intently at him. “Is everything alright, Adam?”
“I just…” He took his arms away from me and made a sweeping gesture with them, indicating around his house. “I want you here. All the time.”
“I am here all the time.” I didn’t understand, and I wasn
’t sure if I was being dumb or not. Maybe it was obvious, and I was just blind to it for some reason.
“Yes, I know. But not officially. I want you to live here, but like I said, whenever you’re ready. I know you already have a home and a roommate and that you’re probably quite happy with how things are…” His nervous chatter almost made me want to laugh. “I’m sorry, have I overstepped some boundary there? I didn’t mean to make things weird or anything.”
It had come as a big surprise, first love then an offer to move in, but I liked it. Adam was diving in with both feet first. It showed that he was truly committed to me. “I think I would like that – it sounds pretty nice.”
With that, Adam grabbed me around the waist and spun me around with joy. Yes, it was a huge step and to the rest of the world it probably looked like we were moving too quickly, but we had fought hard to be where we were. We deserved to finally be happy. This would just be the first step of that. I wasn’t sure that I would move fully in right away, but the finer details didn’t need to be hashed out right now.
“Oh my goodness, I feel like we should go out for a drink to celebrate, don’t you?”
As he lowered me to the ground, I pressed my lips against his. “I do want to celebrate, but don’t want to go out to do so.” I winked, but somehow Adam didn’t seem to get it.
“Okay, so what did you want to do? Take out and a bottle of champagne?”
“No.” I grabbed his hand and tugged him along with me. At first he seemed unsure, but as I walked up the stairs towards the bedroom finally he clicked on. As soon as he did, his steps quickened and a big beaming smile finally reached his cheeks. He looked as excited as I felt.
“Oh I see, you want an adult celebration with just the two of us? I see.”
The steps quickened and soon he overtook me completely. In the end he was pulling me, so by the time we actually reached his room, a place that I would soon be able to call our room, I was giggling like a crazy person. His eagerness to be with me always made me feel like a sexual goddess, bringing out a confidence in me that I didn’t have before.
And now, on top of that, he’d said that he loved me. We declared our feelings for one another so everything was even better. He was mine and I was his.
“I love you,” he murmured again as he leaned in to kiss me. “So damn much.”
With that, Adam claimed me with his mouth. His lips crashed against mine and he gave me a deep and passionate kiss that was absolutely filled with love. I could feel it running through me, which was far more powerful than any words could have been.
I walked backwards until I tumbled back onto the bed, and Adam came with me. The weight of his body on top of mine was the most incredible feeling in the world, so I fixed my hands around his waist to keep him there while his tongue snaked between my lips.
I tucked my hands under his tee shirt and lifted it up slightly, so I could run my hands over his muscles and as I did I groaned loudly with glee. Even now after we’d been together for a while his body excited me in an intense and incredible way. He had my heart fluttering and the butterflies flapping wildly. He was off the scale gorgeous, and now he was mine.
“I love this nightdress on you,” Adam muttered breathlessly. “But I need it gone now.”
I lifted my butt off the bed so he could slide it off me, and as he did his eyes remained fixed on me the entire time. He was looking at me like I was his everything, like I meant the whole world to him, and I felt the exact same about him.
Once it was gone, and I lay there in my innocent-looking which lacy underwear, his mouth moved down to my collarbone where he kissed me rapidly. Every so often, his tongue would dart out of his mouth as he licked the perspiration off of my skin.
“Oh, Adam,” I moaned as a storm brewed inside me. “That feels so good.”
I gripped my hands into his hair and guided his head down my body. I moved him over to my breasts and rolled my hips into him as my back arched. He reached around behind me and unhooked my bra. He slid it away and tossed it to the ground where it fluttered like a bit of paper, then he concentrated all his mouth action on my nipples. I lolled my head to one side and closed my eyes so I could succumb only to the sensations.
Eventually I couldn’t take it anymore so I began to tug his clothes off too. I yanked his tee shirt up, I tugged his pants down, and I pulled his thick length free in a rapid amount of time.
As soon as he sprang out of his underwear, I wrapped my fingers around him and I held him close to my body. I moved my hand slowly up and down as his mouth explored the upper half of my body. It built a connection between us, and I could feel a deep bond that continued to grow with every passing second. My love expanded, my chest grew, my heart tightened around him.
Then he took my hand off of him and fixed it above my head, where he held it for just a few seconds, staring into my eyes with love. His eyes shone, which made me smile happily at him. Anything that made him happy made me feel good, too.
Adam took the opportunity while I was off balance to slip his fingers into me, changing the gear all over again. One moment we were soppily staring at each other, the next his fingers were massaging me, brushing my G spot, touching me so deeply and intimately that I could barely control myself. He used two fingers, then three, which made my walls clamp tightly around him. As his thumb moved over me and brushed over my clit, I could feel myself growing too close. I needed to stop things before I went wild.
“Oh fuck, Adam,” I gasped while arching my back. “Oh it’s too much.”
He didn’t stop, he seemed to like me breathless and desperate beneath him, he enjoyed having complete control over my body, and I did too…but I also liked to surprise him, which was why I shoved him off of me and climbed over him. He sat with his back pressed against his headboard as I straddled him with my breasts close to his face. While he sucked me, I angled myself over him and I hovered there for just a moment.
“Stop teasing me,” Adam begged. “Stop it, you’re driving me crazy.”
“I can’t do anything yet.” I wiggled my hips to drive him even more wild and giggled as he shuddered violently. “We need protection first.”
“Oh, of course we do.” He leaned across and gripped one from the nightstand. “Here.”
I tore it open with my teeth and rolled it down over him, touching him for much too long as I did. I just couldn’t resist sending him as close to the edge as I felt myself. I wanted him to be a mess. I loved that lustful, hazy look in his eyes. I could see myself through his eyes and liked the way I looked to him.
And then I pushed myself down onto him as I let out a desperate scream. He felt so fucking good inside me, it was too much. Even as I moved up and down, much slower and in a more sensual and loving way, the feelings were overwhelming. He was too much, too perfect, I loved him so much. As my head swam, I could hear the words falling out of my mouth over and over again. It was as if now that I’d finally said them I didn’t know how to stop.
“I love you, I love you, I love you.”
Adam’s mouth was all over me, he kissed me everywhere, showing me that he loved me as I told him. We had this connection, it was intense and powerful, and I loved every second of it.
As the orgasm shattered through me, shredding me of everything but an insane amount of pleasure, I clung tightly to Adam and held him tightly. The whole world vanished and it was just me and him. Me and the man that I loved, the man who once paid me to pretend to be his girlfriend. It was absolutely crazy, but it was my love story and I adored it.
As the bliss exploded from Adam, I kissed him to swallow up his screams. I held him near to my body so he could feel every inch of me, including the powerfully hammering of my heart that was all for him.
“Oh my God, you’re amazing,” he groaned once we fell apart breathlessly. “Honestly, Lindsey, you are.”
“You are, too,” I insisted. He seemed to think that I did everything for him, but he did a lot for me, too. He built me up and made me feel
amazing. I needed him as much as he did me. “And, I’m glad that you’re mine.”
Chapter Thirty-Nine
Adam
Next Day
I woke up smiling widely. I hadn’t even dreamed about anything nice, or anything at all actually it was the memory of my real life keeping me happy. Lindsey, the declarations of love, the offer for her to move into my house… We were moving forward quickly, and I loved every damn second of it. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever particularly been afraid of commitment of I just hadn’t liked the idea of it or even considered it, but now I was all in. Lindsey was my all.
“Good morning,” she said sleepily from beside me. “How are you feeling this morning?”
I pushed myself into a sitting position and I smiled down at her. “I’m feeling really positive actually, like we’ve been through a lot of changes all in one go, you know?”
She nodded but gave me a bit of a curious look as if she wasn’t sure where I was going with this. “Yes, it’s all good, but it looks like you have something else to do.”
“Yes.” I swung my legs around and padded them on the ground. As I stood up I stretched myself out large, raising my arms high. “And it’s all because of you actually.”
“Because of me? “ She furrowed her brows. “Why what are you thinking?”
“You don’t need to look so scared,” I laughed. “It’s fine. It’s good, actually.” I grabbed my cell phone and shook it at her. “I’m going to call my dad now to set up that meeting you were talking about. The one to finally make everything okay again…or as near as it can be.”
She sat up straighter and stared right at me. With her messy bed hair and her slightly flushed cheeks, she looked more beautiful than ever before. My heart flushed with love again – there was no doubt that this was the woman for me. She was perfect.
“You are?” she gushed as she clutched her chests. “Are you really? Today?”
“I am. No point in waiting any longer, is there? I need to start making things right now.”
