Brent lifted his mug along with the other guys. They really did have a good life. Heck, all of them could have died overseas, but they’d survived. They’d made it, and they had hope now. Mike would need extra help, and Lane was taking a chance at the hospital down here. Clay was still trying to figure out what he wanted out of life, and he and Jake were working through keeping their businesses alive and growing. It was different than they’d all thought life would be, but they were living that out together.

Jake leaned in and kissed his cheek, and he warmed. He had everything he’d ever wanted. Life had been good to them, and now it was only going to get better.

Lane watched Mike from across the room. Thomas stepped close and tapped his shoulder.

  “You’re in love, aren’t you?”

He turned to stare at Thomas. “Oh yeah.”

“Is he being good to you?”

“Yeah. We do a lot of meditation. He’s learning he can’t control everything, and he’s working on learning how to control those things he can.”

“He’s a good man,” Thomas said.

Lane nodded then turned back to Thomas. “I’m really happy for you and Clay.”

“This move, it’s going to be good for all of us. You know, we need you here. Having Brent and Jake close makes every day better.”

He put his hand on Thomas’s chest, happy to have his friends close. Mike came over and kissed his cheek before turning to Thomas and placing a hand on his shoulder.

“Thank you for suggesting we move here. It’s the best decision we’ve ever made.”

Thomas nodded then put his arm around both of them, drawing them close. He kissed Mike on the side of the head first, then kissed him on the cheek.

  “You two are perfect together.”

  “Thank you,” Lane said.

“I really mean it. Mike, you may think I’m blowing smoke, but I’m not. You both need each other. I see a difference in Lane. He’s happier with you.”

“And I’m happier with him,” Mike said.

“We have a lot of things going for us.” Lane squeezed Mike closer.

“You’ve made everything better.” Mike brushed a kiss over his cheek.

  “So guys,” Clay called out.

  “Yeah,” Thomas said.

“There’s a house around the corner that just went up for sale.”

  “Really?” Mike asked.

“Oh, that’s a nice one,” Thomas said.

“We can always look,” Mike said.

“I think I know what we’re doing this week.” Lane felt like everything was coming together. He had his best friends with him, and he had the only man he’d ever wanted in his life. This might not have been what he thought he would have had growing up, but he loved every part of his current life.

Mike was the best man he’d ever known. In his weakness, he’d proven how strong he was. Lane knew some people might have issues with him staying with Mike after all that had happened, but their love had grown deeper. Mike wasn’t being mean or vindictive; he’d been injured in war by what he’d seen. It was something thousands had gone through, and not everyone understood. He hoped treatments would progress and more men and women would find help that worked for them.

Lane’s heart expanded as he watched his friends laugh at something Clay had said. This life was amazing. No doubt, he was supposed to be with Mike and live here close to his friends, because they weren’t just friends, they were his family and he couldn’t ask for anything more.

  About the Author

I don’t know what I’m doing writing a book, but this is the second one. I hope you enjoyed Falling In. It’s been fun.

What about me? I’m boring. I read a lot, but I don’t really do much else. I do like to people watch. People are funny. They do silly things. I once watched a guy walk from a store to a kiosk in the mall then back to the store and back to the kiosk. He did it four times before he finally left the area. Why? These are the things I wonder about.
