  CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

  Leo

“Park as close to the path as possible,” I instructed Bullet as we pulled in the compound.

“Sure thing, Lamb,” he replied looking in the rearview mirror, hitting the remote to close the fence.

“Tank is going to kick your ass.” I groaned as Bullet deliberately drove through the deepest pothole in the yard.

“What the fuck for?” he laughed.

“You hit every damn pothole in fucking town. The suspension and steering are going to be fucked. I’d be surprised if you haven’t bent the rims.”

“Tank will get over it, especially when he sees what we have in the trunk,” he grinned driving through another pothole.

Bullet parked, and we climbed out, walking around the back. He hit the button on the key fob and the trunk popped open.

“Ugh, Tank is going to have to torch this thing now,” Bullet gagged, covering his nose with his hand. “Asshole spewed; I think he might have pissed himself too.”

“Serves you right, you stupid fuckers,” the traitor spat, a piece of gaffer tape hanging off his mouth. Blood dripped down his face from a cut about his eye; vomit chunks were stuck in his hair. There was always something off about this asshole. Always quick to blame others for his fuckups, sucking up to Danger, big noting himself at every opportunity.

  Fucking pathetic.

“Get the fuck out,” I growled, grabbing him by the scruff of the neck hauling him out of the trunk. “On your fucking feet.”

“Ow, fine. Jesus, fuck guys. What the hell. Are you going to tell me what the fuck is going on?” He asked spitting blood on the ground.

  “You’ll find out soon enough.”

“Wha…. What’s going on?” His eyes flicked nervously as the snick of Bullet’s pocketknife flicking open filled the air.

“Stand still,” Bullet sneered running the blade of the knife up the centre of his shirt. “I am not going anywhere with this fucker covered in vomit.” Bullet dropped the remnants of the offending article of clothing in the trunk, slamming it shut.

“Let’s go.” I shoved him in the direction of the path heading into the forest. “Hurry up.” I kept shoving him as he dragged his feet.

  “Where are we going?”

  “To the pit.”

“What! No. Why? Why the hell are you taking me to the pit?” The fucker stopped dead, struggling against his bounds. Rope burns marring his wrists that were tied behind his back.

  “Move, you stupid fuck, move.”

Bullet shoved his shoulder. He wouldn’t move. I smacked him upside the head and Bullet punched him in the gut. The piece of shit doubled over, dropping to a knee, gasping for breath. I fisted his hair at the top of his head wrenching it backwards, his wild panicked eyes flicking between me and Bullet.

  “I said, move.”

“You won’t get away with this! Danger will kill your assess for this. I’m fucking protected.”

“Who do you think sent us to collect you, you stupid fuck?” Bullet laughed.

“Wha… what do you mean? Danger wouldn’t do this.”

“How long did you think you could get away with this?” I asked grabbing his arm, dragging his ass across the yard.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about Lamb. I have no fucking idea. Lamb, Leo, please.”

“Don’t Leo me, we aren’t friends.”

“Leo, Lamb, c’mon man, don’t do me like that. We’ve been through some shit together.”

“Walk,” I demanded turning him shoving him in the back making him move.

“Guys, please. Bullet c’mon man. I don’t know what this is about but get me out of here and I’ll make it worth your while. I’ll make it worth both your whiles, just don’t do this. Get me the hell out of here.”

“You can beg all you like, and you can save your bullshit story, but I don’t want to hear it. You can tell it to Danger.”

He could beg and plead until his last breath, but it wouldn’t do him any good. Unlike this fucker, I am loyal to Danger. I looked at the snivelling man in front of me and felt nothing but contempt and disgust. I drew my arm back and clocked him one in the jaw knocking him out cold.

“Thank fuck for that.” Bullet kicked him over until he was on his back. “All he did was talk, talk, talk. I swear to God he could talk under water with a mouth full of marbles. He was making my ears bleed. Grab the top,” he said tilting his chin towards the unconscious man as he bent down to pick up his feet. “D, is gonna be pissed.”

“Leave Danger to me,” I huffed grabbing his shoulders, lifting his dead weight.

“D won't like being handled,” Bullet warned. “Not on this.”

“Danger is so fucked off about everything that’s been going on, she’ll either listen to me or I’ll get shot.”

We dragged his ass across the yard, not caring that his hands were dragging through the gravel. Behind the eight-foot-high steel fence there was no way anyone could have eyes on us, but with what we were about to do we couldn’t be too careful.

There were only two others who knew what Danger had planned for tonight. The rest of the MC were at Fury Road. There was a big-name act performing tonight and Danger had demanded all hands-on deck, either behind the bar or working security.

It was pitch black; the lights of the compound stayed off. Only the moonlight to guide us. We kept tripping over potholes and the overgrown scrub grass along the path at the end of the yard where the gravel met bushland.

Twenty minutes, and a few accidentally on purpose drops of the assholes unconscious body later we made it to the location.

Deep in the forest, hidden in an abandoned mine shaft was our destination. Bullet dropped a foot, grabbing the heavy metal door, holding it open with his leg. Hefting the fuckers feet and backed through the door. I passed through, letting the door slam shut behind me. We waited on the landing for the lights to kick in. The lights flared to life, illuminating the concrete staircase descending into the bowels of the earth.

“I know hindsight’s twenty-twenty and all, but fuck, couldn’t you have knocked him out once we were through the creepy forest and down the fucking stairs?” Bullet bitched rolling his shoulders.

“Danger just said this fuck had to be alive not what condition he had to be in,” I shrugged.

I grabbed useless excuse for a human by the arm and dragged him down the stairs. I would have thrown him down, but I didn’t want the asshole to break his neck, not yet anyway.

I promised he would live long enough for Danger to deal with him.

“I believe this is yours,” I said dropping the assholes moaning body at the feet of my President.

“You always bring me the nicest toys,” Danger grinned. “Tie him up, then wake him up.”

Bullet and I took an arm each, dragging him to the metal chair bolted to the concrete floor above a drain. I secured his hands to the back legs of the chair with zip ties, while Bullet zipped his feet to the front.

“Locked and ready to go D,” Bullet said using two fingers to push the douchebags head back by the forehead. His head flopped back; moaning.

“Good. Wake him up, let’s get the party started.”

“After you,” Bullet, bowed low, his hand almost sweeping the floor.

  “No please I insist.”

“I couldn’t, possibly.” Bullet held his hand out signalling I should step up.

“Get on with it you two. I don’t have all night,” Danger growled, arms folded.

“Let’s settle this like gentlemen,” Bullet suggested holding his hands out in front of him; a balled-up fist resting on an open palm.

“On the count of three,” I held my hands out the same way. “One, two, three, shoot! Oh Bullet, always with the scissors,” I laughed bumping his scissored fingers with my balled-up fist. I turned, slapping the unconscious facktard hard across the face. “Wake up!”

  “Wha… what tha fuck…” he
mumbled groggily.

“You and I need to have a little chat,” Danger smiled, arms crossed. It was not a pleasant smile; it was one that let him know exactly how much shit he was in.

“You… you… you can’t do this,” he stammered. “I’m loyal to you. I’ve been nothing but loyal to you. To… to this club.”

“Now, both you and I know, that’s a lie. You know how I feel about lies,” Danger growled.

“Guys…” He looked around the room eyeing Bullet, me and the other two guys in the room; Wolf and Tank. “Help me please, get me out of here. I’ll make it worth your while.”

“You’ve already said that,” I replied, resting against the table covered in Dangers – Toys.

“Do you honestly believe we would betray our Prez, for you?” Tank asked with a humourless laugh.

“You’re out of your fucking mind,” Wolf scoffed.

“Unlike you, my men are loyal to me,” Danger said picking up a pair of needle-nose pliers.

He flinched as the cold steel touched his cheek. Danger walked behind him gripping his hand tight, his thumb nail gripped between the pincers of the pliers.

  “You can’t do this! I’m a cop!”

“Like that’s going to save you.”

  CHAPTER ONE

  Diesel

Being a girl in an MC Club, it was a constant battle of having to either prove myself to these assholes or dealing with the vulgar comments that come my way. Raven and the boys were respectful all of the time, but it was the other clowns that came through here that needed to be put back in their place. When the nomads rolled through, being the mechanic for the club, I liked to keep myself locked away in the garage working on their bikes or cars whenever they needed it. With them, at least, they didn’t talk back or try and hit on me. I knew how they worked and could work out what was wrong with their bikes and help fix them.

People though, they were complicated. Men especially. They hide shit from you and no matter how badly you may want to help them, you just can’t for the life of you figure out what is wrong with them. Then one day it comes out that the man you loved had been hiding the biggest secret from you. He tried to hurt one of his brother’s girlfriends because he still loved her and was jealous that she had moved on. It’s then that you realize that while you loved him with all you had, to him, you would always be second best. He couldn’t have the one he wanted so he settled for you and that hurt like hell. Try as you might though, you can’t move on because he still has a hold on you. It was pathetic and stupid and not like you at all. You were just his dirty little secret. I had managed to bury all those feelings down and pretend like I wasn’t hurting. I painted a smile on my face every day to hide that I was dying inside. I could hide it from the boys. All but one. He saw through me, made sure I didn’t do anything stupid or reckless. He made me eat, drink, and not give into the darkness that threatened to take over every day.

It was a very dark time for me. The days bled into nightfall and for a good few weeks, it took a lot for me to drag myself out of bed and out of the house. It sucked having the rug pulled out from under me and putting so much into one person. Once I was feeling better, well as good as I could feel, I had decided that I would never put myself in that situation again. Falling in love, for me, was always the easy part. I wear my heart on my sleeve and love deeply. No matter how many times I get hurt, I brush it off and search again. It wasn’t until I had worked out why I was repeating the same cycles over and over. I didn’t want to be in a relationship with just anyone. I wanted one person in particular and it wasn’t until things didn’t work out between Freddie and Ellie that he decided that we could turn our friendship into something. Was he looking to fill the space that she left? Maybe and I should have seen the warning signs again, but for me, he was the one I could see myself being with. We could talk for hours over cars and other random shit. He would often come over and spend the night purely because we were up ‘til the sun came up.

For a long time I blamed myself for what he went through. I should have seen that he was slipping or that something was wrong. Cameron had to sit me down and tell me that he felt the same. All of the guys did. We saw him every day but we all missed the signs. Well no, we didn’t miss them. Freddie had just been damn good at hiding behind the mask he wanted us to see. After he went into rehab, I went back to being just Diesel. The chick that fixed their bikes. I missed being the one that someone loved. It was then I said enough was enough. No more letting him get to me. I thought about everything I wanted and all the goals I had set for myself and refocused. Every day from there, it got a little easier to breathe and not feel like my world was breaking apart. I could get through days without breaking down in tears, which turned into weeks. I could be around people again and genuinely laugh. Over time, my broken heart began to heal again. So when Cameron came into the workshop, I had no idea he was about to drop the mother of all bombs on me or if I could withstand the blast. Fuck this was gonna hurt like Hades though.

  CHAPTER TWO

  Diesel

“Fuck, fuckity, fuck, fuck, fuck!” I cursed when I smacked my head against the car that I was under. Hearing a deep chuckle coming from the room, I groaned. Someone had heard that?

“Wow, Rubes, you kiss your mother with that mouth?”

“Nah, I prefer to kiss yours with it.” Pulling myself out from under the car, I looked up and saw Cameron standing there grinning down at me.

“You okay?” Nodding, I held up my hand to him, taking my ha
nd he pulled me to my feet.

“Yeah, nothing I haven’t done a million times before. I’m just glad it wasn’t hot or I would have ended up with the burn mark to go with my stupidity. You good? What brings you out here? Have you trashed your bike again? I am gonna take it off you one of these days if you don’t start treating her right.”

“Hey, there is nothing wrong with my bike! You make it sound like that last incident was my fault.” I laughed. He had me there. “I actually came to check up on you. Make sure you are okay.” I moved to wipe my hands on a rag. Turning and looking over at Raven, my back lent against my work bench.

“It’s been a rare good day. Been keeping myself busy. Is there a reason I wouldn’t be though?” He ran a hand over the back of his neck, gripping it. Something he only did when he was nervous. Why was he nervous right now? The look on his face though, told me that as good as I was feeling today, that was about to change. “Why do I feel like that is about to go out the window?” I chewed on the inside of my lip and braced myself.

“Ruby... He’s back. In town I mean. The club is still to vote on his position here but we had to call him back.” Grabbing the nearest thing to me, I threw it against the far wall.

“For fuck’s sake Cameron! What the hell?! Why the fucking hell would you not tell me before he got back here so I could get the fuck away! I was just starting to feel good and you go a blindside me with this bullshit!”

“Rubes, I’m sorry! We had no other choice! Please believe that. I didn’t have time to tell you beforehand. We needed him in ASAP.”

“That is bullshit Cameron and you fucking know it! You may have had to bring him back, for whatever the damn reason is this time but you of all people made the choice not to tell me until right now! Who needed saving this time?” I crossed my arms over my chest, my brow raised as I waited for his answer.
