In the end, the girl seemed to recover, as if she had remained for a moment enchanted, and turned to him.

«All right, I'll let you dress.» He said, raising his hands in surrender.

Then he left the room, letting him get dressed.

Once outside, in the small corridor, he headed for the kitchen. He turned his gaze to the living room and realized that the table was already set with everything necessary for breakfast, in fact there were glasses, plates and freshly squeezed juice. He turned his gaze to his right and saw Stacy, with her back, busy preparing breakfast, twirling pancakes a couple of times with incredible skill. Allison was sitting on the kitchen counter and talking to her mother, until she noticed him.

«Look a little who woke up.» Said the girl, mockingly.

Stacy, he turned off the kelp and turned around.

«Oh, good morning.» She didn’t even smile, clearly too busy in what she was doing.

«Sit down, breakfast is coming now.» He added, then.

She looked like a different woman now, compared to the sexy and seductive woman with whom she had spent the night together the night before. Perhaps, she thought to herself, she had entered into a kind of mommy mode, which did not allow her to let herself go completely, especially in front of her daughter. He sat at the table and Allison did the same, after which Stacy brought to the table a plate full of pancakes, one on top of the other, and set it down in the middle of the table. The three of them began to eat and for a moment Allison watched the scene, which brought the subject of a quiet family breakfast without a shadow of a doubt.

After breakfast, Allison took the backpack and Stacy the bag, then the three headed for the door. Once outside, the sun was already pounding over the warm streets of the pitch in front of the house. He put on his sunglasses and the three of them got into the car, and then set out for the city.

First, they left Allison in front of the high school Linchwood, after which he accompanied Stacy to work.

They came in front of the bookcase, and she turned to him with a more open smile, now.

  «So I'll see you tonight, when I'm finished?»

«I have to go to Andy first.» He replied. «I have to start organizing the work with him.» He paused. «Besides, I have to make a leap in the offices of L.A. Star Magazine, to sign the contract with them... surely, John Craimer will be happy with this.» He concluded, with a half smile sketched.

She looked at him for a moment, absorbed in some deep thought. Then, she spoke.

«I'm really glad you're slowly regaining your life.» She said, with a smile that struck him particularly.

Once Stacy got out of the car, James headed for Cross n 'Sweeny.

Arrived in front of the building, parked the car and walked towards the building. He entered and climbed the stairs, knowing that place by heart. He headed straight for Andy's office, and the moment he got to the door, it occurred to him that he was not sure he would find him there. Some voices inside the office answered his question. He knocked a couple of times and pulled down the door handle. Once opened, he found himself faced with a very cumbersome figure, back, bent over the desk of his agent. He looked familiar, and when the latter turned, he recognized Arleen, his chief editor with whom he had signed a contract for his new novel.

«James, it's been a while since our last visit.» She made the woman, bending her mouth in a kind of friendly smile, but what came out was a distorted grin.

She certainly was not one of those girls who were seen in bikinis over the warm Californian beaches, but at least she was nice, he thought to himself.

«I hope you've already put yourself down for writing.» Then she said the woman, looking inquisitorially.

Fortunately, he had not met Arleen a week ago, otherwise he would not have known what to answer.

«Yes.» He did. «I think I have something in my hands.»

Arleen seemed satisfied, and after all, he knew how much that a true writer could never get rid of too much if it was a work in progress, and if the work was not finished yet, he found it useless to talk about an immature manuscript as his in the current state.

  «Very well.» She answered.

After that, she turned to Andy, who was sitting on his usual black leather chair, and until now, because of Arleen's size, he had not been able to notice his presence.

«See you soon, big man.» The woman said, turning to his agent with a provocative smile.

Then, she left the office and closed the door behind him, leaving James and Andy alone, now.

«I cannot do it. If that human bison makes the dead cat with me again, I think I'll stomach.» His agent immediately complained, without even saying hello.

«Come on, don’t overdo it. Remember that if it were not for her, now we would not even have a shred of contract.» He answered, sitting down on the small armchair in front of his agent's desk.

«Of course. This doesn’t mean that I have the slightest intention of being profaned by a sex-thirsty walrus, like Arleen!»

He smiled. «You will tell me about your intrigues later, I am here for professional reasons.»

His agent looked at him with a mixture of uncertainty and skepticism.

«Are you serious?» He asked then, uncertainly.

  He nodded and went on.

«We have to organize my return to the L.A. scene, which means I need interviews, presentations, radio appearances and all those other things that you know well.» He paused for a moment and took a cigarette from the pack inside his pocket. trousers.

«I have to advertise, Andy. I want to start getting serious this time.»

His agent was almost speechless from his sudden realization, but now he was just talking and he wanted to act. Enough with words, those would have left them for his books.

Now he would be serious, and he would not do it for Karen or Stacy or anyone else, but for himself, as well as for Elizabeth.

  Go on…
