“Holy crap.” I rushed back over to my purse, pulled out my phone and searched online. I found photos of Queen Marie and several other royals wearing the jewel I was holding in my hand.
I looked at Nicolai but said nothing. I was too stunned to react.
“She’s passing along her power to you, Allison.” He looked happy, but he also seemed a little sad. “But she is apparently making me optional. You could buy the business from me outright with that rock. She’s made sure that you don’t need me.”
Without even thinking, I placed the jewel against my heart. It warmed my skin. Within a moment, a burst of energy moved through me. My mind’s eye filled with colors and images. It was some sort of telepathic slide show of photos and videos. But they weren’t from my past. They seemed to be in the future sometime. In every image, Nicolai and I were together.
“No,” I said, placing my free hand on his heart and looking into his eyes. “Not being together is no longer an option.”
I gently pushed him onto the couch and climbed on his lap. Within moments, he was hard, I was ready, and the scant amount of clothing we’d had on was quickly tossed to the floor.
He kissed me like he really meant it and I kissed him right back. We made love like long lost lovers finally reuniting. I’d never felt so close to anyone in my whole life. Life seemed filled with pleasure and new possibilities.
Once we were wildly satisfied and spent, we clung to each other for a long time, flesh against flesh.
“Let me be your family now, Allison,” he whispered, kissing the top of my head.
“Da.” The answer came flowing out, as if it were the most natural thing in the world.
