Untainted: (Crime Romance: The Photographer Trilogy #3)
Page 13
Kate leaned back in her chair and watched the different exchanges, smiling to herself. She felt like she was in a dream state of sorts. She had spent her entire life without a family, just her and her sister. Then the last four years, both her sister and her uncle were gone. She was sure that she would never be whole again, never have a family again. Yet here she was, at the dining room table for dinner like an everyday family with three generations of women, a handsome husband, and the best friends she could ever have asked for.
“What are you smiling at over there?” Derrick leaned over and whispered to Kate, kissing her cheek.
“Everything, Derrick. Look at our family.” She looked at him, tears in her eyes again as she smiled widely.
Derrick took her hand in his and kissed the back gently.
“You deserve everything, Kate.”

ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Two years. That’s the amount of time from when I wrote the first word of Tainted Bodies to the last word of Untainted. It was my first book, even though it wasn’t the first one I published. It was too raw, because Tainted Bodies and some of Untainted was and is largely based on the true story of my life, my childhood, and my relationship with my wonderful best friend and sister, Victoria. However, my imagination took over after the hospital scene in Tainted Bodies when Derrick left Kate.
In real life, my Derrick never came back.
I wrote this series for every woman who has ever been sexually assaulted, who has had their very own body taken from their possession. First I wrote to heal myself, then I wrote to tell others, and then I wrote to take back what was once mine. My mind, my creativity, my heart... my soul.
This series, these words, gave that back to me after a monster tried to take it away. More than one monster, actually. A lifetime of monsters.
On a separate and more cheery note, I have to acknowledge all the people who brought me to this very point. I was never going to be an author, it seemed impossible. I didn’t even entertain the idea because it was such a far fetched, improbable dream. Then I was laid off from my job in 2012 and couldn’t find work, the economy sucked and so I had some free time and decided to write. Abey Albright found me, forced me out into the public, then let me loose with enough knowledge to start as an Indie author. Nine months as an Indie Author and then I was picked up by an amazing agent, Nicole Resciniti from The Seymour Agency. In less than two years, I went from unemployed and drifting, unsure of what I wanted to do with my life, to having five published books, over twelve thousand fans on social media, an amazing literary agent, and a publishing deal with my dream publisher. On top of that, in the span of those two years, I got engaged to the love of my life, married, moved a few times, and adopted an unhealthy amount of pets that I clutter my Instagram feed with pictures of.
Dude. What? That’s a lot of life for two years!
Well, anyways, enough of my standing here with my jaw on the ground trying to understand how all this happened. Time for the thank yous! My first thanks goes to Holly Morales, my amazing personal assistant, who helps me with every aspect of being an author, except the actual writing. I wouldn’t be able to write like I do without her, she is the most amazing Main Minion! Next, a huge thank you to Michael Burhans for being such a supporter for this entire trilogy and me in general. Michael edited and formatted all of my books so far and has the kindest heart of anyone I’ve ever know. He is also super weird and lives ten steps over the line of inappropriate and crazy, but that’s what makes him so awesome! Haha, love you Michael!
Next, a big thank you to Robinson’s Rockstars, the amazing members of my fan club who work hard to get my name out there and remind me that you readers are why I write in the first place!
HUGE thank you to my beta readers- they gave me the confidence to publish this final book in the trilogy. Heidi Ryan, pretty much my main beta reader since the beginning of it all, because she always tells me how it is, no bullshit. Then Holly Morales, Michellee Vedder, Jessica Clements, Michelle Holloway, Michelle Hart (I must have a thing for Michelle’s.... haha!), and Joy Whiteside.
Of course, I have to say thank you to all of the amazing bloggers and blogs that have helped me get the word out about my novels and made me the author I am! Bloggers are the main way that readers find out about us authors and our books. There is nothing I could ever do to properly thank you all for what you do, and it would be impossible to list the 400+ blogs that have helped me so far. So, thank you to all of you bloggers!!
Another huge thank you to fellow authors who have done so much to teach me, support me, and encourage me every day! Big shout outs to some of my dear friends and inspirations in the author world- Alyson Raynes (our phone calls talking me off the ledge are the best ever! and you totally just called me seconds after I wrote this- stalker!), Pepper Winters (my girl crush and the one I bounce my crazy ideas off of!), Brooke Cumberland (the girl who teaches me more than any other author- the true definition of a big time author who is kind enough to reach down and teach us little guys!), Chelle Bliss (the teacher of all things HOTTT), LP Dover (the sweetest heart you’ll ever meet), TK Leigh (a marketing genius, a lawyer, and a bestselling author... does this girl do everything??), Rachel van Dyken (she stalks me, I’m sure of it hehe- but she is also super sweet, beautiful, and my idol!), SR Grey (bestie!), JS Cooper (always willing to answer my laundry list of questions and help me!), Tarryn Fisher (inspiration for all things dark and twisted!), Kim Black (friends to hell and back haha, nothing can tear us apart!), LW Michelle (one of the first, love her!), Missy Johnson (talk about inspiration, this chick is FABULOUS, plus we are SG Twins!), MC Cerny (WARS women to the end!), JM Walker (give me more Parker!!), Tijan (no last name needed because she rocks as hard as Cher!), and so many more ladies that I value and love having gotten to know!
Lastly, yet most importantly, I want to thank my amazing husband, Justin Robinson. He fights crime during the day and then comes home to my crazy at night. How he does it, I’ll never know. He has given me the opportunity and the ability to chase my dream of being a full-time author, something I never could have done without his help. He reads every single word I write before anyone else ever sees it, even doing initial edits for me and running through ideas with me. He is as invested in this as I am, and that is a blessing. I could live a hundr
ed lifetimes and still never do enough to deserve a man as wonderful as him. But isn’t that what love is all about? Choosing to love someone no matter what, no matter when, and most importantly, no matter why.
I love you, Justin, with every part of my heart, soul, and being. I love the goofy long poems that you write me, or the random notes you leave around the house telling me you love me. I love that you go out in the middle of the night to get me a Wendy’s Frosty when I have an insane craving. I love that you clean the house and collect mementos from our dates to put in a keepsake box forever. I love that you love animals as much as I do, want all the same things I do, and never get mad at me when I get into my crazy hysterical mode and spray you with water or shove a cat down your pants. You are the best thing to ever happen to me- so ha! You’re stuck with me now!!
