“Mr. Murphy, Gerda is doing very well after delivering a bouncing baby boy. You may see her directly she Is asking for you.” Murphy was so relieved that his Gerda was well and he had a son, praise the Lord.

“I would like to see Annie anyway. I will not disturb her but I have been very worried these last few months, may I see her?” Jake persisted concerned for his wife.

“Jake, Annie is weak after the ordeal she had and we are giving her a chance to recover her strength with some medication. You are welcome to visit your babies in the nursery, right this way folks “

Jake gave up for the moment and followed the obstetricians and Murphy, their eyes wet with tears and Annie’s parents questioning the doctors as to when they would be able to see their daughter and she was okay right?

There were so many thoughts racing through Jake’s mind as he made his way to the nursery.

The total finish of the white owl case, for one. Babs did a magnificent job weaving through the myriad of paper work and evidence against the entire organization to obtain a conviction. The incarceration and sentencing of Tony McCane, now waiting on death row continuing to protest his sentence saying he was completely innocent of all charges. He was a victim of a diabolical mind and feared for his life if he got out or crossed him, the Keeper of the Keys, in any way.

Detective Burns in a padded cell for life, waiting for the return of the white owl. He swears he is near and will soon regain all his powers and bring him to glory as head of the Cult. In the mean time he loves to feed the birds on the grounds of the sanatorium with the bread he saves from his meals. He talks to them and listens. Dose he hear their voices?

Priscilla left Philadelphia, she said the memories were to deep and to hurtful, to her. She went off to parts unknown, clutching her suitcase which she keeps close at hand.

Kendra and Sal had an amazing wedding bomb free. The Don was most grateful to Jake for breaking the case before the wedding and not implicating the assassination of Joe Carter on him or the Mob. His revenge was complete.

The baby gifts the Don bestowed on Jake and Murphy’s babies; College educations for both, now I guess all three, a full ride, it made Jake tear again just thinking about it. “God I am so emotional you would think I just gave birth and in a way, we did. We gave birth to brand new lives in a safer world.

God I am forgetting the money and the jewels. I turned everything over to the city comptroller. It is his duty to disperse the money et al to the victims. Gerry got the emerald ring back so he had to return the insurance check. The diamond brooch was never found so Priscilla received a check from the insurance company. The rest of the jewelry and money that was unclaimed went to the policemen’s Widows and Orphans Foundation.

Jake’s brain went into orbit when he gazed at his new born children in the hospital nursery for the first time, his heart lost a beat they were so beautiful. Murphy grabbed Jake’s arm both men as tough as they are, were speechless with emotion. Annie’s Mom and Dad held onto Jake’s other arm and they all beamed at each other and the children.

He promised God many things to keep his family safe, not all of which would be possible for him to keep, but he kept praying.

Gerda and their son were released from the hospital first. The doctors still wanted to keep Annie and the twins a few more days while she gained her strength back, since she was breast feeding the children.

Jake walked Murphy and his family out of the hospital nursery and waited while their car drove up to the curb. Jake noticed the black Limo that had been waiting for what seemed like for hours. He became suspicious and mentioned it to Murphy who was focused on his son.

“Murph did you see the Limo across the street, I think I’ll go over just to see what that’s about.”

“Don’t waste your time, they are probably waiting for their families. You know how slow hospital procedure can be.” Dismissing Jake’s proposal.

Murphy got Gerda settled in the front seat of their car with the baby and he turned to shake hands with Jake before getting behind the wheel.

“Good luck Murph and many congratulations. Don’t worry about work it will keep.” Jake waved as he entered the hospital door to be with Annie and the twins.

After Jake left, the back window of the Limo rolled down and Murphy saw a familiar face, and long blond hair. Crystal gave him a second to recognize her, blew a kiss, rolled up the window and the car glided away.

  THE END
